In 1955, the Remington Arms Company introduced the 6mm Remington. Fred Huntington designed the cartridge by necking down the case of a .257 Roberts to accept a 0.243" diameter bullet. When Huntington necked the .257 down to .243", he called it the ".243 Rockchucker" being that he didn't work for Remington. And he changed the shoulder angle, which Remington did not do when they commercialized the design." Nine years later, the cartridge was renamed the 6mm Remington, and the name has stayed the same since.

During tumultuous and uncertain times, these qualities are more important than ever before. This years award recipients embody those traits with aplomb. Here are the best of the best products for self-defense, training, concealed carry and home protection introduced during the past year. |

No ones claiming they watch ABCs The View for factual Second Amendment news. But the gaggle of progressive television hosts got plenty wrong during a conversation about Second Amendment rights and recent criminal shootings perpetrated by people breaking the law.

If youre an old waterfowl hunting junkie like me, then the Benelli M1 Super 90 is likely on your short list of guns to own. I have wanted a 3-inch Super 90 auto-loader ever since my days as a snow goose guide on the Texas coastal prairie in the 1990s. Benellis Super Black Eagle is far more popular among todays duck hunters, but Im a vintage gun guy. I love shotguns made of walnut and steel, and dont much pay attention to whats trendy, though the SBE is clearly a great inertia semi-auto and not just a fad. |

California state lawmakers advanced a measure Tuesday that would make it easier to skirt a federal law in order to sue gun-makers, legislation that opponents say is ultimately aimed at driving manufacturers out of business. Different committees approved bills targeting ghost guns, requiring firearm dealers to install digital video surveillance systems, and barring the marketing of firearms to minors. |

A Texas couple is still waiting for police to return their guns to them after the weapons were taken in 2018. Brandy Napier and her husband have been trying to get their guns back since China Grove, Texas, police took them and told her the guns could not be returned without documentation from the district attorney's office, according to FOX 29. In a shooting industry that has gadgets for everything, theres a surprising lack of variety in options for covering your rifle muzzle to keep out debris and moisture. There are the movie references to using condoms for that purpose, and the only muzzle-specific product I can think of is simply a miniature condom thats rolled over the muzzle. However, it doesnt disappoint me to see a lack of effort in tackling this problem. After all, its already been solved.

Compact, all-metal guns designed for home defense, carry, and even military service at the beginning of the 20th century, the Savage Model 1907 and 1917 boasted some unique and forward-thinking design features for the day. Originally patented in November 1905, it would take almost 100 years for another semi-auto Savage pistol to roll off the assembly line when the Model 1917 ended production in 1928.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote to President Joe Biden to urge that the administration turn away from partisan, anti-gun rhetoric toward policies and nominees that will actually address the rise in violent crime. Grassley also raised serious concerns with the recently announced nomination of Steven Dettelbach to serve as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

In a move that surprised no one, Governor Tony Evers has vetoed another pro-gun bill that the Legislature sent to his desk. He is determined to show his disregard for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Wisconsinites. This time, it was Senate Bill 570, to protect firearm dealers, manufacturers, distributors, etc., from frivolous lawsuits for the criminal or unlawful use of their product, filed by anti-gun extremists attempting to bankrupt them. |

I have a love/hate relationship with gun shops. Whenever Im driving and see a GUNS! sign I jack the brakes and rip into the parking lot. Who knows what dusty little gem might be sitting alone in a rack? Its the same with online listings, but these days Ive got to be more careful when scrolling through the thousands tens of thousands or more listings. A focused search easily can kill a weekend, which leaves no time for dog training or scouting for covers. |

The base layers you need for hunting depend on the time of year youre in the woods. When I chase elk in September, I use a lightweight base layer or a midweight that also doubles as a standalone piece. When the late season rolls around, I use a heavyweight base layer thatll keep me warm on all-day sits in the deer stand or duck blind. It might not seem like the most important piece of gear, but base layers can make or break a hunt. But choosing a base layer doesnt have to be complicated, and thankfully there are plenty of options to suit any hunting scenario you might encounter.
