We cant say if its a result of bombardment-style mainstream and social media or merely an instinct, but an automatic distrust of anything that smacks of conspiracy is a vital reflex for our work. Bluntly, its hard to keep alive, much less sharp, for several reasons.

First is the propensity of human beings to fill information vacuums with any grist thats handy. Hearsay, quippy innuendo and bumper-sticker factoids are easy to come bysocial media positively gushes with this drivelbut the mind must generally nurture such questionable seeds, too.

Yesterday, April 19, the Senate Education Committee passed legislation clarifying the Pennsylvania school boards authority to allow school staff to carry firearms on school property. SB 383 will now go to the Senate floor for consideration.

Current law prohibits firearms in schools, but there is an exception for a weapon that is possessed and used in conjunction with a lawful supervised school activity or course or is possessed for other lawful purpose. The scope of the law regarding other lawful purpose is not clearly defined on whether school employees can or cant carry in schools.

I dont get it! Liberals are all for granting illegal immigrants shelter, education and medical benefits even hiding them from federal agents.

However, when American citizens want to exercise their Second Amendment right to purchase a firearm, they have a hissy fit.

Most violent confrontations are sudden, dynamic and unpredictable. After all, if you knew there was going to be a fight, you would apply our number one tactic, which is avoid and escape. There are times, however, when this isnt an option, and an immediate defensive response is required. The fundamentals of responding to a threat or attack are move, communicate, use cover, shoot, if necessary, and think.

Candidates for Montana's special election to replace Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, launched combative ads showcasing their support for gun rights on Thursday.

Democrat and country music singer Rob Quist is running against Republican Greg Gianforte, a millionaire businessman who unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2016.

After receiving criticism for comments made in January suggesting he would be open to a national gun registry, Quist's campaign launched a video ad, "Defend," on Thursday showing him in a field holding a rifle.

NC: Concealed-carry bills go too far

Two bills being considered in the N.C. House -- HB 69 and HB 201 -- would eliminate the requirement to obtain a permit in order to carry a concealed weapon. Both bills are completely irresponsible.

I strongly support both the Second Amendment and the NRA, but to eliminate the requirement that individuals have at least the basic skills to safely use a firearm is irrational. Also, the conceal permit approval process provides a background check that excludes many criminals and individuals with a history of mental health issues from having legal access to a concealed firearm.

We're told that at some point, the man pulled out a weapon and the homeowner ran back inside. Police say the man then broke into the house, and the homeowner then opened fire on him, shooting him several times.

Police say right now everyone is being very cooperative, including the victim's common-law spouse who was inside the house at the time.

No one has been arrested, and investigators say it appears to be a case of self-defense.

Mendon Fish & Game Club members voted this month to drop their 70-year ban on female members.

The group was the last of the roughly 50 members of the Vermont Federation of Sportsmens Clubs to bar women from its rolls.

There are no other clubs that have a men-only edict, said Chris Bradley, president of the federation. Im pleased to hear that Mendon has looked at this issue. I think its a solid step in the right direction.

It could be said of me, with pretty decent accuracy, that I spend a great deal of time around firearms and have a very good grasp of what makes certain guns good or, well, not so good.

When it comes to selecting things to review I occasionally like to pick guns that I see as a bit of an oxymoron.

Enter the Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 327 Revolver. This revolver is a somewhat odd-looking addition to the famous line of PC guns.

A bill to restrict the items covered by Louisiana's "Second Amendment sales tax holiday," held annually over three days in the fall, was approved by state Senate on a 22-6 vote Thursday (April 19). The House will now consider Senate Bill 22 from Sen. Barrow Peacock, R-Bossier City.

The changes would essentially limit the tax break to guns, ammunition and hunting supplies. They would restore taxation on the weekend of a number of other items, such as all-terrain vehicles and airboats. (See how your senator voted.)

State lawmakers voted Monday to bar local governments from requiring background checks before individuals can sell property to one another. But proponents insist the legislation is not about guns.

SB1122, given preliminary House approval on a voice vote, would spell out that no government can require that the seller of personal property search federal or state databases before transferring private property.

It also says that such transactions do not have to be handled through a third party. Federal law mandates background checks when a licensed firearm dealer sells a weapon. But there is an exemption for the person-to-person sale of weapons.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, told the Muscatine Journal during a visit to the area on Tuesday that an upcoming resignation from among the nine-justice bench had been rumored.

I would expect a resignation this summer, Grassley said, without naming a justice tied to the speculation.

Despite all the doom and gloomand gun control groups reports of hundreds of mass shootings each yearthe FBI lists four mass school shootings since April 20, 1999, which was the date of Columbine.

Columbine was a gun-free zone in which a 17-year-old and 18-year-old shot and killed 13 defenseless individuals, then killed themselves. Twenty additional innocents were wounded as the two attackers fired their guns in a gun-free zone.

But now, House Bills 375 and 1911 are threatening to undo this fundamental public safety law. If passed and enacted, they would dismantle our license-to-carry system by abolishing the requirement that individuals must first obtain a permit to carry a loaded handgun in public. Consequently, HB 375 and HB 1911 would allow a whole host of untrained people and dangerous individuals who pose a threat to public safety to carry loaded handguns in public.

While I strongly support the Second Amendment and licensed carry of firearms, I cannot support the current bill in the Legislature that would allow unlicensed persons to carry firearms. Please note the hypocrisy of the Legislature, as the proposal would allow unlicensed carry on Main Street, but not on Gervais Street (at the State House). If this is such a good idea here, why is it not a good idea there?

The editors of NRAs original Official Journal, now celebrating 132 years of continuous publication, have, for the past 15, identified a short slate of products and individuals whose impact on the firearm industry rises above the rest. Once that list is compiled, it is further distilledoften through vigorous discussionto a single entry in each category and winners are named to receive the NRA Publications Divisions highest honor, the Golden Bullseye Award, in recognition of their excellence in quality and innovation. As in years past, this years selections were made with an eye toward the trendsetters likely to have the greatest impact on NRAs 5 million members.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
What is ominous is the ease with which some people go from saying that they don't like something to saying that the government should forbid it. When you go down that road, don't expect freedom to survive very long. Thomas Sowell
