Their numbers have jumped 619 percent since 2004 the earliest year with available data when there were 4,856 women licensed in the same age group, according to state records.

Democrats in Congress have quickly changed the subject from gun control to immigration reform and are relieved to be moving past an issue that divided them to more solid political ground. The political momentum from the resounding victories of Election Day stalled earlier in the week when Republicans punched out all three pillars of Obamas gun-control agenda.

A Brazilian court sentenced 23 police officers on Sunday to 156 years in jail each for killing 13 inmates in Brazil's bloodiest prison revolt in which 111 inmates died more than 20 years ago.
Military police stormed Sao Paulo's Carandiru prison in 1992 to quell a riot sparked by a fight between two rival gangs that started with a quarrel during a soccer game.
Prosecutors said police officers brutally repressed the uprising by shooting 102 prisoners, sometimes at point-blank range.

Submitter's comment: Twenty years after the fact.

The teenager was reportedly arrested and suspended last week after getting into an argument with his teacher about a National Rifle Association T-shirt he wore to school.

A West Virginia teenager has been charged with causing a disruption at his middle school after he refused to remove an NRA T-shirt that he wore. Fourteen-year-old Jared Marcum of Logan said Sunday the shirt didn't violate Logan Middle School's dress code policy. It displayed the NRA's logo and a hunting rifle. Marcum says he was exercising his free speech right on Thursday when he refused a teacher's order to remove the shirt.

A nationwide shortage of ammunition has forced several police departments, including Richmond, to find a backup solution for training rounds. Officers said the solution is just as effective as live ammo, not to mention cheaper.
Everybody is fighting for what is seems like a shrinking amount of ammunition out there, said Lt. Louie Tirona, firearms and tactics instructor for the Richmond Police Department.
Tirona came up with an idea: using professional-grade Airsoft guns for some of the training.

Key measures of New York's tough new gun law kicked in last week, with owners of firearms now reclassified as assault weapons required to start registering the firearms and new limits on the number of bullets allowed in magazines.

As the new provisions took effect, New York's affiliate of the National Rifle Association planned to file a court request for a federal injunction to immediate halt to the magazine limit.

At least police departments and other gun owners now know whats creating a shortage of ammunition across the nation: It IS the federal government, as those online reports, including several at WND, have explained.

Word came just now when Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was talking to members of Congress and was asked about the ammunition issue.

With the gun control debate still raging, Bill Maher addressed the idea of the infallibility of the constitution on Friday, saying that both the second amendment and equal representation in the Senate should be overturned.

"So much of it does need a page-one rewrite, including that bullshit about the Senate and the second amendment. Both of them should go."

Some people latch on to the word "well-regulated" in the Second Amendment and seem to think it authorizes gun-control legislation. The militia referenced in the Second Amendment was considered necessary to oppose a potential tyrannical government.

If they considered the government the potential threat, would the writers of the Second Amendment have envisioned the government to be instrumental in regulating their own opposition?

If you or a like-minded progressive has recently suffered a crippling blow to your most fervent efforts at gun control, we know how you feel. Every American liberal has, at some time or another, experienced a deep and distressing loss regarding their efforts to disarm the citizenry. You are not alone in having these feelings of humiliating defeat and embarrassment.

Fortunately, there is hope. Every left-wing statist who has been through this process of mourning has reported feeling largely the same set of emotions, and in a largely predictable manner. Others have walked this path before you.

Cops, gun owners

Almost to a man, police officers think gun owners are dangerous. Cops strongly believe the best way to reduce crime is to ban assault weapons, high capacity magazines and small, concealable handguns. They also believe that the best way to solve crimes is to establish a comprehensive, national database of firearms and gun sales.

Or at least, thats what anti-gun politicians and the media would like you to believe.

It wasnt that long ago that most people assumed police officers supported the rights of gun owners to keep, carry and use firearms for self defense. Yet, it seems that in modern days the popular belief is most cops would prefer a disarmed populace.

New York State gunowners filed suit demanding it restore gun rights to all New Yorkers after the enactment of the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013.

In early April, we filed a lawsuit against the City of New York that says their administrative code restricts the ability of licensed gun owners to travel outside of New York City with their firearm in violation of the commerce clause, said Brian T. Stapleton, partner at Goldberg Segalla LLP, an Albany law firm.

Hardy said that a gun safety course, a requirement to get a pistol permit in the state of Connecticut, will train gun owners how to handle their weapons safely.

Some of the basics include:

Always keep your finger off the trigger
Always point the gun in a safe direction
Be sure of your target - and what lies beyond it
Always treat a gun like it's loaded

"I'm very fanatical about safety," Hardy said. "If someone's coming to the course because they want to get a pistol permit, and they're not handling a firearm in a safe manner, I tell them to come back and see me in 90 days."

It was called the strongest pro-gun bill in the country, and now its the law in Kansas.

The law is designed to counter the push by liberal federal lawmakers for increased restrictions on gun rights. It nullifies any new limits on firearms, magazines and ammunition whether enacted by Congress, presidential executive order or any agency.

This past February, law professor Barry Kellman formulated a new course about the legality issues related to gun trafficking, the Second Amendment and gun violence. Kellman said he submitted the course for faculty approval, and after an almost unanimous vote in favor of the course, the deans of the Law School did not approve it for the following term.

...

Kellman was not surprised by the defeat of the bill. The percentage of the group of the country that is trying to stop progress is capable of doing precisely that, said Kellman. And until these people are removed from power, they will continue to do this.

Someone is trying to break out a window. A door is already open: Is someone else in the house?

The resident calls out a warning, I have a gun. The would-be intruder ignores him, continues to smash away at the window. He warns him again and ultimately fires at the intruder, killing him.

After this scenario, which was played out in a West Toledo neighborhood a week ago, those who knew the intruder in the case a Central Catholic High School and University of Toledo graduate with no criminal history wondered just how Lucas Hassen, 24, could wind up dead outside a strangers house.

I moved to North Carolina 10-plus years ago, and both of my children were born here. We have been in Salisbury for over a year now. I recently decided to purchase a handgun for my wife and me, as well as a couple of small caliber rifles for my children to start learning how to handle and shoot guns responsibly. I investigated N.C. gun laws and realized I could buy a rifle without purchasing a permit and the dealer would perform the background check on me at their location. However, to purchase a handgun I must go to my local sheriffs department and purchase a permit allowing me to buy the gun.

Those who favor granting the government power to indefinitely detain terrorists without due process will point to the events in Boston and say, See! We need these powers.

Just like those favoring gun control pointed to the horrible shootings at Sandy Hook to tell us, See! We need to ban guns.

The Bill of Rights was written for times such as these to protect the people from expanding government power and violations of basic rights during moments of emotional upheaval.
