Your right to protect yourself shall not be infringed..well..except where it already is infringed. That is what my young liberal friend told me. Here is what he said.

"I think we should pass a law to ban guns. That way we wouldnt have any more violence and we could close the prisons. Itd be great."

"You think so? We tried it before. It is called prohibition. It failed when we prohibited alcohol. It failed with prohibiting drugs. It is failing today with prohibiting guns." (more 750 words)

AZ: No checks on private gun sales shifts little

Background checks on private gun sales. They have been an integral part of the national discussion on gun control each time the issue surfaces.

Not in Arizona, at least not much anymore, should SB1122 receive final approval and Gov. Doug Ducey signs it.

State legislators this week approved the bill, which would bar local governments from requiring background checks before individuals sell property to one another.

Thats part of the rub; the other part is proponents insist the legislation is not about guns.

The National Rifle Association Disinvites United States Concealed Carry Association from Annual Meeting and Exhibits, a Thursday press release from USCCA announced. The reason given was due to concerns regarding its programs.

The move shocked the leadership of the USCCA because they were given less than two weeks notice that they had been banned from the annual show, even though they had attended for the past several years, the release elaborates. This decision also came as a surprise because, over the past two months, the leadership of the NRA and the USCCA met twice to discuss the shared goal of the two organizations in support of the Second Amendment.

Prosecutors are rightly finding a way to hold the gun owner accountable. Iowa needs more of this. Every single time a minor gets a hold of a gun and shoots himself or others, the firearm owner should be held responsible. Every single time.

Criminally charging these individuals may be the only way to send a message to lock up weapons. This important idea is not getting through to gun owners.

We passed common-sense laws supported by a majority of Iowans, such as one of the largest gun bills in recent history, expanding the rights of every gun owner across the state. We were also able to require a government-issued identification in order to participate in one of the most important things you can do as a citizen casting your vote.

Today, Gianforte and Trump Jr. will address the importance of public lands and keeping them in Montanan's hands, as well as the importance of the NRA and second amendment rights.

"As recently as January, Rob Quist said we should take our guns and our cars down to the DMV, register them and register our guns as well. we all know as gun owners that registration is the first step towards confiscation and that's not what we need here in Montana."

Charges against a Detroit woman were dropped Friday after a judge ruled she acted in self-defense when she shot and killed her boyfriend.

Friends and family of Pap Jenkins expressed outrage in the courtroom.

...

In the end, the defense presented a stronger case, and the judge sided with Holmes -- a licensed CPL holder.

"It's clear from the notes that Mr. Jenkins at every step of the way was causing a problem," the judge said. "And he approaches her and starts choking her, and then she shot him. Case dismissed."

On Sunday, the Washington Legislature will adjourn its 2017 Legislative Session. Numerous bills were filed this session that would impact your Second Amendment rights, with a few passing and reaching Governor Inslees desk for his signature.

Governor Inslee signed House Bill 1100 on April 6. Sponsored by Rep. David Taylor (R-15), HB 1100 creates a renewal notice postcard for concealed pistol licenses that will be sent out 90 days before the expiration. This is a simple way to help remind citizens to renew their concealed pistol licenses in a timely manner.

As the Dookhan case illustrates, Scalia was right. Despite the forensic magic worked on television, there is ample reason to bring the technicians into court and let them be cross-examined. And Dookhan is far from the only example. Just last month the Washington Post reported that the Firearms Examination Unit of the District of Columbia Consolidated Forensic Laboratory was repeating more than 150 ballistics tests after discovering that three examiners had incorrectly matched bullets or shell casings recovered at crime scenes to individual weapons.

A bill that would relax Indianas concealed carry guns laws will go to a summer study committee.

The Indiana House and Senate voted Friday to study whether a person who has a civil protection order, which stems from domestic violence, should be allowed to temporarily obtain a gun without a permit.

The same committee would also study the issue of constitutional carry, which calls for abolishing requirements that a person carrying a concealed gun have a permit.

The committee will run studies on what might happen if carrying a gun becomes license-free for a period of time. Also, the committee is instructed to identify people that should be restricted from obtaining a gun and compile data on handgun usage in Indiana.

Early this month, members of the gun-control group Prosecutors Against Gun Violence met at a Manhattan Summit and took the time to express their dismay and alarm over federal bills proposing national concealed carry reciprocity. At the groups news conference, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr., explained that if the dangerous reciprocity legislation passes, someone from neighboring Vermont, where there are no permit requirements, could come into New York City with a loaded gun, come to Times Square, go to the subways and be amongst us in our communities.

Smith & Wessons new M&P45 Shield packs the firepower of the potent .45 Auto cartridge into the manufacturers classic single-stack carry pistol.

First introduced in 2012, the M&P Shield line of pistols has been a huge success for Smith & Wesson, with the company selling 1 million Shields by November 2015. Slim and trim, the single-stack 9mm and .40 S&W models are a favorite with concealed carriers. But if there was one complaint, it was that the Shield wasnt available in a larger caliber. Until now.

Public educations long-running zero tolerance war against anything that suggests the idea of a firearm (including, for example, clothing, gestures, toys, food, computer images, and favorable opinions of self-defense) has claimed another victim. This time it was 16-year-old Sarah Allena Nichols, formerly a student at Prattville High School in Autauga County, Alabama, and now serving a years expulsion from Autauga County schools, school property, and any school-sponsored function.

Her offense arose from a squirt gun recovered from her car.

The Second Amendment reads A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. According to my information, in early colonial days the term militia referred to all citizens capable of bearing arms to protect the people from the possible tyranny of an aristocratic government, and also to hunt game and protect their home, and some dictionaries still have that definition.

Sen. Joe Manchin said Friday he believes the failed background check proposal for gun purchases stands a better chance under President Donald Trump than it did under President Barack Obama.

"Donald Trump's the only person that can do that right now," the West Virginia Democrat told CNN in an interview following a job fair hosted by his office.

Manchin said he's spoken about the issue with Trump "in passing" but that they haven't had a deep conversation about it.

The New York Times Magazine reported that Trump called Manchin in December shortly after Manchin was on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," talking about the fourth anniversary of the Newtown Elementary School massacre.

The court might also tackle how to handle any cases it already heard that resulted in even-split votes of 4 to 4 after Scalia's death and before Gorsuch's arrival.

Barely a month ago the powerful Louisiana Sheriffs' Association was lining up behind a bill to ban toy guns from public schools.

Now the legislation is dead, a victim of Republican infighting and the politically potent National Rifle Association.

State Sen. Don White wants to give school districts more options to keep students safe.

But according to several statewide education groups, allowing teachers to carry firearms on school property is not a viable option.

The Indiana County Republican's Senate Bill 383 it was approved this week by a 9-3 vote of the bipartisan Senate Education Committee would allow school districts to grant properly licensed and trained personnel access to firearms or permission to carry a concealed firearm.

Like Surviving a Mass Killer Rampage, Thank God I had a Gun provides a lot of detailed information. In this case it is about real-life self-defense cases.

Using actual events from the news, the book covers what led up to the shooting, the shooting itself, and the aftermath, including interactions with the police and the courts. Each case also has Mr. Birds thoughts about the shooting.
