Dershowitz Blasts Zimmerman Prosecution: 'Not Only Immoral, But Stupid'

With ABC News' release of the George Zimmerman photo showing blood flowing freely from his head, the question becomes whether Angela Corey, the prosecutor in the case, had access to the photo before charging Zimmerman with second-degree murder.
The arrest affidavit did not mention the photograph, or the bleeding, gashes, and bruises on Zimmerman's head. Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School ... continued, "An affidavit that willfully misstates undisputed evidence known to the prosecution is not only unethical but borders on perjury because an affiant swears to tell not only the truth, but the whole truth, and suppressing an important part of the whole truth is a lie."

Alton L. Hayes III, a west suburban man charged with a hate crime, told police he was so upset about the Trayvon Martin case in Florida that he beat up a white man early Tuesday.
Hayes and a 15-year-old Chicago boy walked up behind the 19-year-old man victim and pinned his arms to his side, police said. Hayes, 18, then picked up a large tree branch, pointed it at the man and said, "Empty your pockets, white boy."
The two allegedly rifled through the victim's pockets, then threw him to the ground and punched him 'numerous times' in the head and back before running away, police said. Hayes and the boy are black; the victim is white.

VA: First State to Defy the Federal Government, Virginia Nullifies NDAA

As reported in the previous article Who are the 399 and Why Should You Care?, the Virginia legislature in February had passed a National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) nullification bill in the initial version of HB1160 by both the House and Senate. However it was not without controversy. Originally the House had voted an overwhelming 96-4 in favor of nullifying the controversial and almost universally agreed as unconstitutional NDAA. If you're like half of American which has yet to hear about NDAA, it is a law which gives the President sweeping power to detain American citizens deemed as substantial supporters or associated forces of terrorists.

The 1 percent comes in piece. Dozens of New York Citys billionaires, real-estate moguls and Wall Street CEOs are really loaded, according to the NYPDs gun-permit list obtained by The Post under the Freedom of Information Act. Top guns include Donald Trump, Marvel Comics head Isaac Perlmutter and Gristedes chairman and mayoral wannabe John Catsimatidis. Billionaire cosmetics heir Ron Lauder who once dumped $4 million of his own cash on an effort to install term limits for city pols, only to do a complete 180 and back anti-gun zealot Mayor Bloombergs third term also packs heat.

With little public attention, dozens of universities and law-enforcement agencies have been given approval by federal aviation regulators to use unmanned aircraft known as drones, according to documents obtained via Freedom of Information Act requests by an advocacy group.
The more than 50 institutions that received approvals to operate remotely piloted aircraft are more varied than many outsiders and privacy experts previously knew. They include not only agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security but also smaller ones such as the police departments in North Little Rock, Ark., and Ogden, Utah, as well the University of North Dakota and Nicholls State University in Louisiana.

... The NDAA has significantly reduced the life expectancy of the rule of law and constitutional liberty in our Republic. On New Year's Eve 2011, President Barack Obama signed this law granting himself absolute power to indefinitely detain American citizens suspected (by him) of being "belligerents." In the signing statement he appended to it, however, he assured Americans that he would never use it in an unconstitutional manner.
The President continued by explaining that to indefinitely detain American citizens without a trial on the charges laid against them "would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation."

Will Americans leery of a decade of gun rights expansions stand their ground over the Trayvon Martin case?
The Feb. 26 shooting of the unarmed teenager in Sanford, Fla., by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, and the initial police decision not to charge Mr. Zimmerman, sparked a national debate about race and violence in American society.
But so far, Trayvon’s death is having the biggest impact on the national gun policy debate.

The NAACP's Jacksonville chapter has thrown its support behind a woman who will be sentenced Monday in a shooting where she claimed self-defense against an abusive husband under the state's Stand Your Ground law.
Marissa Danielle Alexander, 31, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault in August 2010 after she fired a single shot into the ceiling of her home during a dispute that somehow turned physical.
A judge denied her immunity in a Stand Your Ground hearing. And after a jury found her guilty, she faces a mandatory term of 20 years in prison.

An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's officer, awakened by an alarm, fired shots at a burglar while chasing him from the officer's garage early today, police said.

The officer, 41, was awakened about 3:10 a.m. when an alarm went off in his home in the 6000 block of South Justine Avenue, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

The alarm showed that someone might be in his garage, so the officer went out to his garage and interrupted a man who was apparently stealing tools, Perez said.

Submitter's note: What? Armed defense of property in Chicago?

The Department of Justice is using the liberal "watchdog" group Media Matters for America to deflect questions about the Fast and Furious scandal, including those regarding a gun that might have been used in the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
A new book raises questions as to whether the FBI hid the existence of a weapon recovered at the scene of murdered U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Conservative commentator and author Katie Pavlich lays out evidence she says points to a FBI cover-up to protect a confidential informant in her recently released book, Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and Its Shameless Cover-up,

After agreeing to changes suggested by Governor Bob McDonnell, both houses of the state legislature of Virginia passed HB 1160, the bill sponsored (and shepherded) by Delegate Bob Marshall (left) that prohibits state officers and agents from participating in the unconstitutional detention of citizens of the Old Dominion.
Neither the vote in the state House of Delegates nor the state Senate was even close: the House approved the measure 89-7 and the Senate followed suit later in the day voting 36-1 to make HB 1160 the law in Virginia.

NYPD badges out, Kelvin Jones and the other armed men turned up out of nowhere at a New Jersey warehouse and began barking orders.
Jones told startled workers that the New York Police Department had sent the team there to inspect for counterfeit goods — even though the wholesale dealer of Prada, Versace and other fragrances was legitimate.
The men herded about a dozen employees into a tiny back office and tied them up. By then, it was obvious something was amiss.
"We were kind of shocked," one worker recalled. "We were like, why is the NYPD coming in here like this?"
Another blurted: "You're not cops."
But Jones was indeed an NYPD officer. In fact, he had held an elite undercover position.

As many of my readers know, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is the biggest violation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights since the Patriot Act! The Arizona house and senate have just passed a bill (SB1182) that says Arizona will NOT enforce this unconstitutional law. The bill is now being sent to Governor Brewer.
Please call and write Governor Brewer and ask her to sign SB1182! We need to do everything we can to keep the NDAA from being enforced in Arizona.

AZ: State acts to thwart US law on terrorism

State legislators have all but finalized a law making it a crime for any state official or employee to assist in the enforcement of a federal anti-terrorism law.
SB 1182 would block state employees from enforcing two sections of the new National Defense Authorization Act dealing with when the federal government can detain people - including U.S. citizens - suspected of involvement in terrorism.

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: Arizona is McCain's state, the NDAA is McCain's creation and, judging from this article, the Daily Star is McCain's paper. As you read this, notice the spin -- from the headline to the details.
