FULL TEXT BELOW:
Gun maker Colt Defense is suing its Windham-based competitor Bushmaster for trademark infringement.
Colt's suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Norfolk, Va., claims Bushmaster has is trading on Colt's good name by marketing knockoffs of its popular M-4 military rifle, and seeks unspecified damages.
Colt's lawsuit levies similar allegations against Hartford, Conn.-based gun maker Heckler and Koch.
The lawsuit says Bushmaster's semiautomatic XM-15 E2S rifle is being improperly advertised as an "M-4 type rifle."
Colt's M-4 automatic rifle is its best-selling weapon, sold only to military and law-enforcement agencies.
Colt says Bushmaster deliberately copied the look of its M-4 rifle.
Bushmaster vice president Allen Faraday says the company is confident their marketing fairly and accurately reflects their products.

"Alarmed that the U.S. Congress seems likely to allow an assault weapons ban to lapse, the women who organized the gigantic Million Mom March in 2000 are planning a smaller reprise in Washington this Mother's Day."
"Organizers intend a smaller-scale protest this time, planning for tens of thousands instead of hundreds of thousands. They will gather on May 9 on the west side of the U.S. Capitol, a smaller venue than the expansive National Mall they used in 2000."
"The goal is narrower too. The marchers are not trying to get new laws on the books this time but say they want to pressure Congress to renew the 1994 assault weapons ban, set to expire on Sept. 13." |

Five Years After Columbine Shooting, Assault Weapons Continue to Threaten Public Safety, Illustrating Need to Strengthen and Renew Federal Assault Weapons Ban
"Five years after Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students and one teacher with an arsenal that included a Hi-Point Carbine assault rifle and a TEC- DC9 assault pistol, assault weapons continue to threaten America's police and public-in spite of a 1994 federal law intended to ban these military-style weapons-the Violence Policy Center (VPC) warned today (April 19th). The many hours and dollars spent on the investigation may well reveal little we dont already know, while ignoring the most important lessons that should be learned from this egregious attack on our homeland." ...
"...Two specific regulations proved to be disastrous for dealing with the thugs who, without even a single gun, took over four airliners and created the havoc of 9/11. Both the prohibition against guns in cockpits and precise instructions that crews not resist hijackers contributed immensely to the horrors of 9/11."
"Instead of immediately legalizing a natural right of personal self-defense guaranteed by an explicit Second Amendment freedom, we still do not have armed pilots in the sky. Instead of more responsibility being given to the airlines, the government has taken over the entire process. "A plan to expand the legal rights of gun owners who fire in self-defense is headed for legislative purgatory in the Illinois House, a key legislator said Thursday."
