Fruitport Township Supervisor Heidi Tice was arraigned in Muskegon County's 60th District Court Monday for allegedly embezzling funds from a gun shop that employed her.
Tice - who on Thursday said she thought the matter would be dropped before her arraignment - appeared before Judge Maria Ladas Hoopes on Monday, April 24.
Tice is charged with embezzlement between $1,000 and $20,000, a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison or up to a $10,000 fine.
Hoopes ordered Tice to have no further contact with her former employer and denied a request to lower Tice's bond to personal recognizance bond.
Tice is not in jail, having posted $2,500 in cash bail shortly after turning herself in April 11, 2017. |

A Sunday editorial in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch launched what has become an annual Bash Gun Rights Week by the news media, which used to limit its invective to the National Rifle Association as its annual convention loomed, but now has expanded its scope to include the firearms industry and other gun rights groups.

The 911 call early Sunday morning was a man shouting: I shot him! I shot him! When Central Falls police pulled up to 4 King St., Mael Vasquez, 20, was on the porch with a gun. He told officers that there was a man in the basement, and Vasquez didnt know if the man was alive. He wasnt. Maurice Botelho, 43, was dead. And while Central Falls police charged Vasquez with possession of a stolen gun, the question about whether he will be charged with murder will rest with a grand jury.

When the Chicago Police Department (CPD) reported back in September that 22-year-old Simone Mousheh had been arrested and charged with four felonies for violating gun laws, it noted that Simone is not alone in her crimes: The Firearms Investigations Team say she is not an uncommon example of a female with a valid FOID [Firearm Owners Identification] who sells guns for profit.

A few weeks ago, there was a rally at the Capitol to stand in solidarity for workers' rights. At the last minute, I was asked to bring my portable sound device so those in attendance could hear those who were speaking. I went through the security checkpoint and had it held back it is not allowed in the Capitol. And that is fine. Im sure there are good reasons for that rule; the folks working those entrances are there for a purpose and they were doing their jobs. |

Donald Trump's election undoubtedly had a negative impact on gun stocks. It immediately sent shares of Sturm, Ruger (NYSE: RGR) tumbling 26%, a slightly worse drop than what rival American Outdoor Brands (NASDAQ: AOBC) experienced. Yet in the ensuing months, Ruger has gained back much more ground than its rival, remaining just 10.7% below where it traded just before the vote took place, considerably better than the 25% loss the maker of Smith & Wesson firearms is still nursing. The disparity seems to indicate Sturm, Ruger may be in a better position than its industry peer. |

It is quite simply the stuff of legend. The young seaman watched the ships wheel as it indexed before the shaft that supported it. It wasand isthe nature of a ships wheel to come back around to exactly the same spot, and Samuel Colts inventive mind studied this simple geometric principle with a view toward exploiting it. Eventually, he devised a firearm using a cylinder with five chambers that aligned sequentially with the guns barrel. Using the then-new percussion caps to ignite each chambers charge of blackpowder in turn, Colt created a style of handgun that dominated battlefields for decades. |

A shooting at the Bell County Expo Center has left police asking the public to be more careful. Sunday afternoon a gun show vendor was showing someone a gun when the weapon accidently discharged. Deputies say the bullet went up in the ceiling and thankfully did not hurt anyone on its way down. The vendor was asked to leave following the incident, however deputies say incidents like these can quickly escalate into something much worse. |

The Midland County Sheriffs Department will be purchasing 10 new rifles after the Midland County Board of Commissioners gave its unanimous approval on Tuesday. The sheriffs department had originally budgeted $15,000 for the purchase of critical incident response go bags for its deputies. But a grant of $37,482.90 from the Midland Area Community Foundation provided a greater opportunity to purchase a ballistic helmet, ballistic rifle plate carrier, extra rifle magazines/ammunition and an individual first aid kit for each deputy. |

Any rational person is likely to assume that a political movement that uses womens rights as a cornerstone issue would be all about empowering women to use a tool that can make them the equal of any man. But instead of backing gun rights, Everytown for Gun Safety, with The New York Times as its megaphone, is spinning the very real issue to make it seem like the solution is to leave potential victims disarmed while telling potential bad guys they cant legally own or carry a firearm. |

The following comments are in partial response to Ms. Tisthamers recent letter regarding school safety and HB-194/HEA93 a full reply would require more than the Enterprises 300-word limit. I testified in favor of HB-194, and authored the recommendation on training that was incorporated into the bill. I am now a member of WDEs HEA93 Task Force, assisting in the creation of policy guidance to assist school districts in implementation of this law. There can be no positive future for children targeted by a killer in the school, when there is no one able to protect them. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
To have no proud monarch driving over me with his gilt coaches; nor his host of excise-men and tax-gatherers insulting and robbing me; but to be my own master, my own prince and sovereign, gloriously preserving my national dignity, and pursuing my true happiness; planting my vineyards, and eating their luscious fruits; and sowing my fields, and reaping the golden grain: and seeing millions of brothers all around me, equally free and happy as myself. This, sir, is what I long for. -- General Francis Marion, American War of Independence, Georgetown, SC [Source: 'Marion, The Life of Gen. Francis Marion' by M. L. Weems, Ch.18] |
