Florida lawmakers are trying to allow school districts to arm teachers, and there are some really ill-informed and nonsensical arguments against the idea out there.
On Tuesday, the Florida Senate approved a bill to allow public school teachers to carry firearms if local school boards agree to it. Conservative Gov. Ron DeSantis has previously expressed an openness to the idea, but it still hasnt passed the House.
Under the bill, the educators who choose to bring guns to school would would have to undergo a psychological evaluation and also take over 140 hours of training, which would be evaluated by local law enforcement. |

Gun rights activists held a press conference on April 25, 2019, at the Legislative Office Building and then met with the governor's office to request that he veto bills they said would put women and schools in the Granite State in danger. The Women's Defense League of NH and a few of their supporters in the Legislature submitted two boxes of postcards as well as two signed posters requesting Gov. Chris Sununu "hold the line" against the bills. Specifically, members of the organization were critical of HB 109, a background check bill, HB 514, a waiting period bill, and HB 564, which seeks to ban weapons from schools. |

Todd has said he believes prayer saved his life that day. But since then, he has pushed for a different kind of intervention in instances such as Columbine.
Todd has become a gun-rights activist, including carrying a concealed weapon of his own, and his pet cause is allowing teachers to carry guns in schools.
This month, as the Columbine anniversary neared, he told a Colorado radio reporter, "What actually stops these from happening? And in the world we live in, a firearm is one of those ways. And a firearm would have saved lives at Columbine." |

The bill would ban the state's 22nd District Agricultural Association, which oversees operations at the fairgrounds, from approving sales of guns and ammunition on fairgrounds property. The bill would take effect in 2021 if the Senate and Gov. Gavin Newsom also support it. |

A shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead in North Charleston may have been self-defense, authorities announced Thursday.
The investigation into the shooting that claimed the life of Henry Trey Norris on Tuesday night is ongoing but detectives believe Norris may have tried to rob someone which sparked the shooting, Spencer Pryor, a North Charleston police spokesman, said.
Investigators believe the shooting may have been a result of the deceased victim attempting to rob a male subject and gunfire being exchanged between the two, Pryor said. |

The woman has a firearm owners identification card and is licensed to carry a weapon in Illinois. But her lease says residents and their guests are prohibited from having or displaying guns in the apartment or on housing property.
Violating that condition could result in the lease being terminated.
Earlier this month, a federal judge ordered the housing authority to amend their rules to allow tenants to own guns.
In his decision, U.S. District Judge Phil Gilbert wrote: Among whatever else, the Second Amendment protects the right of a law-abiding individual to possess functional firearms in his or her home for lawful purposes, most notably for self-defense and defense of family. |

When it comes to regulating firearms, Alabama really doesnt have much common sense.
This week, there was a spark, albeit a small one, in the Senate Tourism Committee. The committee rejected a bill, sponsored by Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Tuscaloosa, that would have allowed residents to carry concealed weapons legally without a permit.
This was a bad idea from the outset, but the gun culture in Alabama loved it. No longer would the gun lovers have to pay their local sheriff for a carry permit. While the fee for the permit isnt prohibitive, the supporters of so-called constitutional carry believe their right to carry and hide their weapons is covered under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. |
