An early morning call to Barrett Firearms one day was routed to customer service manager Don Cook. The tone was urgent. A Marine was calling from a battlefield to explain his Barrett .50-cal. M107 sniper rifle had stopped functioning and the trigger would not release the firing pin. Don, a former Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant (MSSG), immediately jumped on the task.

I spent the morning cooking a holster. And got funny looks from my family, but then again, they know my quirks and what I do for a living, so they shrugged it off and left the kitchen. Yes, I was cooking a holster, which is how 1791 Gunleather designed their Ultra Custom Compact OWB to be as custom as possible. Let me explain.

On April 26th, the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee will hear Assembly Bill 1223. This bill places an excise tax of 10% on the sales price of a handgun, and places an 11% excise tax on the sales price on all long guns, rifles, firearm precursor parts and ammunition to fund grants awarded through the Cal VIP program. The taxes are to be collected from California retailers on new firearms sold, and on their retail sales of ammunition. It is unjust to saddle law-abiding gun owners with special taxes to fund social service programs.

Writing Friday at the Dallas Morning News, a former federal prosecutor reached what may have been an unpleasant realization by acknowledging, More gun control laws would not have prevented what happened in Dallas, Atlanta or Boulder.
Erin Nealy Cox, former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, also stated a fact routinely lost or at least misunderstood by the press and public: Theres no question that we need to limit access to weapons for these extremists, but contrary to the popular view that such limitations dont exist, those of us in law enforcement know that they do.

Hollywood is full of anti-border wall celebrities. But on Tinseltowns biggest night, ten-foot security fences have been erected around Union Station in Los Angeles, California, to keep celebrities safe and the public out during Sundays 93rd Academy Awards.
The perimeter around Union Station is cordoned off by security fences and the entrances to the building are blocked by similar structures. Signs posted to the fences bear a stark warning: This property is closed to the public. No entry without permission.

Quick! If I say John M. Browning, what comes to mind? Likely, the Model 1911, Browning Hi-Power, Ma Deuce or the BARall of them originally military weapons. The Colt and FN .25, 1903 and 1908 pistols, which were made for civilians first, might come to mind as well. Ultimately, Browning contributed over 125 firearm patents and designs over his lifetime. Many of his works were designed for the sporting arena and civilian defensive use. Nathan Gorensteins new book, The Guns of John Moses Browning (out May 25), details Brownings involvement in trap shooting. This was when the pigeons in the trap were not clay, but live, and thus less predictable than something thrown by a machine. |

Nevada lawmakers amended the signature gun control package that Democrats hoped to pass this legislative session, removing provisions that would have increased penalties for people who bring firearms to certain locations where they're banned. Three-and-a-half years after Las Vegas experienced the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui, a Democrat who survived the massacre, said she remains committed to passing gun laws to make Nevada safer in every legislative session.

In the High Plains of North Central Nebraska is a region known as the Sand Hills. Its a sparse landscape of native grasses and small clusters of trees. Formed as the glaciers retreated after the last Ice Age, the area now encompasses approximately 20,000 square miles. Its home to more cattle than people, and wildlife thrives. A perfect place to wander and recharge a weary soul.

I write in response to the April 18 letter from Max Schreiber of Cedar Falls. He laments the recent gun laws in Iowa. He said the Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment when firearms were single shot muzzle loaders. So, you are saying the only weapons that fall under the Second Amendment are ones in use in the 18th century? I guess that would also apply the First Amendment. This is the one that protects (not gives) your right to express your opinion. I would imagine you expressed it on a computer. Sorry, those weren't around in the 18th century, so you had no right to express that opinion.

We are watching a small group shredding the Social Compact that Americans have with their elected government. In our compact, the U.S. government promises us protection from physical harm, both foreign and domestic, and protection of our inalienable rights. We may have given up some sovereignty to live our rightful lives while attempting to pursue happiness. But remember, the powers of our government are DERIVED FROM OUR CONSENT, and we may, at any time, alter this compact. Please see Americas Founding Documents.

Fully Encapsulated Base Ammo: FEB Bullets Explained

A fully encapsulated base bullet (FEB) has just what the name implies a base (usually lead) that is completely surrounded by another harder metal, such as copper. This type of bullet typically has good accuracy and is primarily for indoor shooting ranges. Some manufacturers call this "clean range" ammo, as they use the FEB bullet and a mercury-free primer to create an environmentally friendly bullet.
Because the covered lead base prevents airborne lead particles from causing air safety concerns, FEB ammo has pretty much one use indoor shooting. Most newer ranges have great ventilation, so its not much of an issue. But with lead, its always better to be safe than sorry. |
