She said at the launch: "Through this facility, we hope to improve our administration process aimed at effectively monitoring firearms circulating in our communities while improving the time necessary to issue licenses. ... It is essential that gun owners, including dealers and gunsmiths, come here to have their licenses renewed. Failing that, their firearms will be declared unlicensed."

"Wednesday's FBI warning that Al Qaeda terrorists plan to attack U.S. shopping centers is yet another frightening reminder of how dangerous our world has become. The prospect of terrorism in our
shopping malls is even more frightening for Illinois citizens who, due to partisan politics, would find themselves totally defenseless in the face of such an attack."

"They say the officials' strategy so far to tighten security at airports after the Sept. 11 hijackings is fundamentally flawed, in large part because they have little or no hands-on experience in aviation security. And they refuse to consult with people in the field who do, the agents complain."

"We were never asked to get involved in solutions," said Bogdan Dzakovic, a senior airport-security inspector at the Transportation Security Administration here.

"Most Americans would be astounded and offended to learn that the federal government used to spend millions of dollars a year to restore the gun privileges of convicted felons. They would be happy to know that Congress chose to defund that program. And they would be flummoxed to hear that the Supreme Court must now step in to prevent federal judges from arrogating themselves the power to rearm those felons."

"Before Boone County goes off half-cocked and builds a gun range, it would be wise to ask a few more questions. We know that some questions are being asked, like where a shooting range for handguns and rifles could be built or how to resolve any environmental issues. That's clear. It's the brainchild of Commissioner Tim Hamilton, who was appointed last year to fill a vacancy on the fiscal court by Gov. Paul Patton."

"While we do not yet know how the gunman obtained his weapon, the gun lobby likely will use today's shooting to say that gun laws do not work -- that Germany's strict gun laws failed to prevent
this massacre. But the real issue here is the illegal gun market, fueled by the smuggling of weapons from countries with weak gun laws -- such as Eastern European and Balkan nations as reported in
press accounts today -- into countries with tough laws like Germany."

It's no secret that lawmakers in California are some of the most paranoid, anti-gun zealots in the nation. A recent state Supreme Court decision solidifies that claim to shame.

On Monday the state's legal chieftains ruled 6-1 that it is perfectly legal for cities and counties to deny citizens the right to buy constitutionally guaranteed self-defense mechanisms at gun show venues, despite state laws that say otherwise.
