"Anti-gun Oregon Democrat State Senator Chuck Riley says the Supreme Court was 'right for the time' for upholding the enslavement of blacks as Constitutional. His comments came after questioning by gun rights advocates who were attempting to understand his rational for supporting citizen disarmament edicts, and was recorded by videographer 'LaughingAtLiberals.'"
"'But that wasn't the end of it,' blogger Gateway Pundit noted. He embedded a second video, where Sen. Riley and his staffers were unable to explain how the 'universal background check' edict would work at stopping violent criminals, or do anything besides provide a registration list of gun owners." ... |

"'The computerized background-check system operated by the [Ohio] Bureau of Criminal Investigation in the office of Attorney General Mike DeWine has been troubled for years, sometimes indicating that thousands of criminals have clean records,' dispatch.com reports. 'Thousands of police officers and employers rely daily on the criminal background check system that DeWine describes as 'critical for the safety of Ohio families.' The system is used to vet school teachers, foster parents, medical professionals, police officers, firefighters, day care and nursing home workers and gun owners seeking concealed carry permits, among many others.' So how bad is it? . . ." ... |

... "I believe that gunslike books, and pencils, and power toolshave moral neutrality. Guns can be used for good (protecting ones home, fending off an attacker, preventing a rape) or for evil (demanding a mans wallet on the street). Similarly, pencils enable communication, or they poke out the eye of that kid you dont like in math class. Power tools help in construction of a new shed, orif youre Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacreyou use power tools to murder and maim others." ... |

"In my time, I used iron sights on my military issued M-16A2 simply because EOTech and Aimpoint didnt exist. Fast forward 26 years and every civilian shooter, soldier and law enforcement officer has one on their rifle. Its truly amazing the technical advancements we have made in that time, but shooters dont often learn from history. As tough as these sights may be, they are still man made devices and prone to malfunction or breakage and in a worst case scenario, bullets and shrapnel can severely shorten their lifespan. Its these times when we can still rely on old fashioned low tech to get us through these unforeseen events and still be effective on the battlefield . . ." ... |

"After the Sandy Hook tragedy, reporters often called me to ask for information on firearms. They wanted to know whether strong gun laws reduced homicide rates (I said they did); and, conversely, whether permissive gun laws lowered crime rates overall (I said they did not)."
"I discovered that in their news articles journalists would write that I said one thing while some other firearms researcher said the opposite. This 'he said, she said' reporting annoyed me, because I knew that the scientific evidence was on my side." ... -------

"For out-of-staters with licenses to carry firearms, South Carolina has been a bit of an outlier in the old south. While the other states in Dixie tend to recognize out-of-state licenses rather freely (and in many cases, regardless of whether a reciprocity agreement exists) the Palmetto State has kept the number of out-of-state licenses it recognizes to just two-fifths of the other states in the Union. Its unclear at first glance why this is the case. ..." ... |

"... Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. Such appears to be the case with HB 801. It is the classic liberal 'we've got to feel like we're doing something to help' when actually what they are doing is making a blow against law abiding citizens' fundamental rightssuch as their Second Amendment rights."
"The summary is simple. The bill takes away a person's right to possess a gun or ammo if someone has taken out a civil 'no-contact' order against the person. Recently, in our neighborhood one of our neighbors took out such an order against another neighbor in a dog dispute. Anyone can take out such an order against anyone whether there is just cause to do so or not." ... |

... "As the primary cosponsor of the ... South Carolina Second Amendment Empowerment Act (H. 3025), I was proud that it passed the House vote 90-18. The bill, as now amended, allows South Carolina concealed weapon permit-holders to carry in 27 states (instead of the current 20) and opens South Carolinas door to recognize a CWP issued by any state of the Union. Additionally, the amendment authorizes every law-abiding South Carolinian who meets the requirements to legally purchase a firearm to carry concealed without a permit in South Carolina. This empowers every law-abiding citizen to freely exercise their Second Amendment rights. This bill will also receive its third reading and should move on to the Senate this week." ... |

"A U.S. appeals court Monday upheld a Chicago suburb's assault weapons ban that had become a focus in the statewide debate over gun control, though a dissenting judge sharply criticized the majority opinion."
"In a 2-to-1 decision, a panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago concluded the city of Highland Park's 2013 ban does not violate the Second Amendment, saying municipalities ought to have leeway in deciding how to regulate firearms."

"When most Americans think of gun control, they think of an America where only the bad guys have guns, obtained illegally. But, gun control, which is a good idea, doesn't have to be like this."
"Just look to Australia, which has had gun control since 1996. Australia banned automatic and semi-automatic weapons while heavily regulating all other firearms. Since that time, many of their gun related statistics have been reduced, such as gun-related crime (which dropped about 50 percent) and teen suicide (in general, not just with guns). Australia also has one-tenth the number of gun murders per capita." ... |
