"An amnesty on its own isn't really going to do that much. What we actually need it backed up by is a banning of (all) semi-automatics in the legislation and possibly even compensation (to gun owners handing in equipment during an amnesty)." --National Coalition for Gun Control (NCGC) convenor Samantha Lee

"How can small arms be controlled?

The General Assembly decided in December 1999 to convene the United Nations Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects in June/July 2001. ... The Secretary-General ... maintained that small arms and light weapons must be brought under the control of states, and states must be held accountable for their transfer."

N.Y. officers who killed Diallo won't be punished?

The 4 police officers who fatally shot unarmed Amadou Diallo in 1999 will not receive departmental punishment, but will undergo retraining in tactics and firearms use and will not be allowed to carry their guns (they'll be on non-enforcement duty), until the Commissioner determines they are fit for regular duty.

BUT, the article says that the Commissioner "accepted the recommendations of two police investigative panels, concluding that the officers acted within departmental guidelines. The panels said the officers believed their lives were in danger because they thought Diallo had a gun."

If he accepts that the officers acted correctly, why are they undergoing retraining and not allowed to carry their guns?

"In the case of deer, elk, turkey and mountain lions, wildlife scientists believe we now have more in North America than in recorded history. Our harvest numbers are at all-time highs as well, with new world records being broken every year. Any professional biologist will acknowledge that this is all a direct result of the successful management of these precious renewable wildlife resources by the world's most active conservationists: hunters." -by Ted Nugent

"Files on Adolf Hitler and other notorious war criminals were among the 10,000 pages released Friday, but the most striking disclosures were about a second tier of Nazis who aligned themselves with Western powers eager to use their expertise against the Soviet Union. Many of these lesser-known men committed serious crimes, but ... received compensation because western intelligence agencies considered them useful assets in the Cold War."

The same day, Columbia College Conservative Club hosted a panel consisting of few of the increasing academic critics of Bellesiles' book: historian Clayton Cramer, firearms law historian Stephen Halbrook, JD, and researcher Dr. John Lott.

Both the award and the critiquing panel is scheduled for broadcast at 8:50 PM EST Sunday, April 29, on CSpan2

Suicide Law?

~~Interesting.

KABA NOTE: According to this article, the evidence indicates that the shooting victim "may" have wanted the defendant to kill him. If it can be proven, then the defendant should go completely free. If it cannot be proven but was indeed the case, the men should have documented the facts beforehand. You cannot shoot someone and then expect to get off by claiming that your victim wanted to die, without having verifiable proof of some sort!

If the gun prohibitionists have their way, gun shows, which are as American as Mom and apple pie, will be shot down; overnight, law-abiding citizens will become criminals because of another misguided gun control law. The stage will be set for government-manufactured crimes: gunrunning, a black market for firearms, and a new government solution, "The War on Guns!"

KABA NOTE: Another article about the decision for unwarranted searches.

The U.S. Supreme Court, by the narrowest of margins, has all but nullified the Fourth Amendment of the nation's Constitution.

Any cop, in any town, at any time, at any place, for any reason can now order the driver of a vehicle to pull over to the curb and submit to a total search of his (or her) property - pockets, purse, clothes, car trunk, glove compartment, suitcase, briefcase, ashtrays, cargo trailer.

And, possibly, the garage and house.

Welcome to tyranny.

We are NOT amused!
