When it comes to shotgun ammunition, there are plenty of choices. And while most shooters are very familiar with certain types, like the 00 buck, each bullet size and pellet count is different. The size of the buckshot bullets, or shot, will decrease as the shot type number increases with buckshot for larger game and bird shot for smaller game. This means 000 buck is very large compared to #12 bird shot with #1 buck right in the middle.

Im an expert on judging bears. Thats right, if I see two bears side-by-side, I can usually tell you which is bigger. You might say, rather, that Im an expert on judging small bears, because Ive taken more of them by mistake than Id like to admit. Believe me when I tell you bears, by themselves, are very difficult to judge. While nothing beats experience gained from looking at hundreds of bears, there are a few tricks you can use to discern their size in the field. Usually.

In the early 1960s sixgun manufacturers began searching for better varmint hunting cartridges than the big magnums. The revolver was about to become a real varminter with the introduction of not one, but two bottle-neck cartridges, both based on a necked-down .357 Magnum.

Its been a decade since the Supreme Court affirmed, in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. City of Chicago (2010), that the Second Amendment protects an individual and fundamental right, striking down laws that effectively prohibited the possession of handguns in ones own home.

While the U.S. Supreme Court once again punted on a Second Amendment case Monday, Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh signaled that the time is ripe for the high court to consider another gun rights case and a scathing 31-page dissent by Associate Justice Samuel Alito explained why. The importance of another high court ruling on Second Amendment rightsparticularly the right to bear arms outside the homecannot be overstated, and a paragraph in the Los Angeles Times by editorial writer Scott Martelle makes that clear.

People are feeling more self-sufficient these days. When it comes to self-defense, thats a good thing.

By the looks of the baking aisle in the grocery stores, we are baking more from scratch. In states whose governors havent determined vegetable seeds to be nonessential, more people are planting gardens to improve their sense of food security. People who had not considered sewing before this pandemic have now taken to making masks for their families, strangers, and for profit.

Yesterday the U.S. Supreme Court decided that a long-pending NYC Second Amendment challenge was mooted by law changes made after the case was filed. The decision ends speculation that the High Court might use the NYC case to establish new rules applicable to all Second Amendment cases in the future. It also means that ANJRPCs pending challenge to NJs unconstitutional carry law could be the next Second Amendment case to be heard by the Supreme Court.

The Mississippi Justice Institute has filed a lawsuit against the city of Jackson claiming the mayor's temporary ban on the open carry of firearms is unconstitutional. The MJI, a nonprofit legal center, filed the lawsuit on behalf of state Rep. Dana Criswell, R-Olive Branch, who said he was "shocked" by Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba's announcement of the ban on Friday.

Im not sure where it started, but it probably goes back to the blackpowder era when velocities were slow and sight radius was a determining factor in rifle accuracy. Many hunters and shooters still feel that, in order for a rifle to be capable of long-range accuracy, it has to be big and heavy and wear a long barrel.

On April 10, disgraced Virginia Governor Ralph Northam signed five pieces of anti-gun legislation into law. Those measures criminalize the private sale of firearms, ration handgun sales to one a month, create a red flag gun confiscation scheme, punish property crime victims who fail to hastily report a firearm as stolen, and restrict how Virginia parents may store and introduce their children to firearms. Northam sent two pieces of anti-gun legislation back, including legislation that erodes the Right-to-Carry and the state firearms preemption statute, to the general assembly with governors amendments. The General Assembly enacted both items of legislation on April 22.

The Mosin Nagant rifle, there are few shooters out there that dont know what they are or the general history of the gun that armed first the Tsarist Russian Army to the Soviet Military and even now still in some form of service in various countries around the world. In between Finland, China, Poland, and dozens of other countries ended up using one form of Mosin Nagant either of Russian origin or of their own making. In the case of Finland, they took the Russian made guns and improved upon the design taking a utilitarian rifle designed to simply just work to become one of the most accurate bolt action rifles ever to be used in combat.

Ive been on both sides of the wind in many of my outdoor adventures but none more notable than last week, when the well-worn mooring rope on the cleat of my boat broke. My boys and I had the stunning experience of heading down from the parking lot to the launch dock to see the old Lund about 40 yards out in the bay, with a portion of the red tether dangling off the side and the other part still attached to the dock.

You probably know Victorinox through its iconic flagship, the Swiss Army Knife. Theres a chance you know it through its affordable yet reliable kitchen knives. And if watches rank in your interests, you might even know Victorinox for its timepieces. But you probably do not know the Swiss company for its hunting knives, and thats precisely why you should take note of the new limited-edition Hunter Pro Alox Damast that the brand just released.
