"His name is Charles."

"Her name was Clara."

"Was. Past tense."

"The first and last time Charles saw Clara alive, she was being dragged by her hair through the CNN Center in Atlanta. Clara's tormentor ordered Charles out of the way, and instead of standing his ground to defend an obviously distressed woman, he obeyed the thug's order and let them pass." ...

"There was a time when a majority of American men would almost surely have come to Clara's aid. ..."

"It was a day when men, recognizing the reality of evil, carried weapons that enabled them to stand in the gap for those being unjustly tormented and threatened. Virtually any man on the street could come to the aid of a victim like Clara." ...

Gun ban takes power from the people

"Thirty-one years ago, in the capital of a country that won its independence by the hands of settlers and farmers gripped firmly on their own privately owned firearms, legislators decided that it would be a wise idea to ban guns in the District of Columbia. For over three decades, law-abiding citizens were not allowed to own a gun or even possess one in their homes, excluding active and retired police officers. Not for self-defense. Not for the defense of property and possessions. Not for the protection of loved ones. ... The purpose of these laws was to make the people safer from themselves and the criminals who would exploit them." ...

... "I have woken up many nights thinking about such [self-defense] issues. I have no doubts about my ability to act. I hope I never have to."

"You, Mr. Robinson seem to disagree. You seem to feel that armed, law-abiding citizens are more dangerous than the criminal. I do not agree with you on that feeling. But, you seem to be comfortable with the idea that if a wolf acts, the sheep should bleat for help and hope the farmer comes with the shotgun to save them."

"You've wandered off the reservation alright. Straight into the gated sheep paddock and you've been comfortable there for a long time. It shows."

"I prefer to be the farmer."

"The Appeals Court ruled that the law violates the heretofore much-ignored Second Amendment, thereby causing whoops of joy over at the National Rifle Association headquarters and lamentations from the citys mayor and gun-control liberals everywhere. FULL TEXT BELOW:

A teen was expected to survive after being shot while breaking into his 77-year-old neighbor's home early Tuesday, police said. The elderly man, Bob Manross, was in his southeast Houston home when his neighbor broke in around 1:45 a.m. The 18-year-old, carrying a pistol, demanded all the man's cash, police said. Mr. Manross said he recognized the teen and told the youth he would get the money from the next room but got a rifle instead and shot the youth in the chest. The teen ran out the back door and jumped several fences before collapsing. The youth, who was not identified, was facing a charge of second-degree robbery by threat, police said.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Authorities say a gun has been found in the pocket of a 16-year-old boy at a Marion County school during a drug sweep.

Sheriff Mark Richardson says the teen had the unloaded .32-caliber pistol in a backpack and tried to hide it in his pants pocket when deputies arrived Tuesday morning at Pee Dee Academy to do a routine search for drugs.

The sheriff says classmates saw the student move the gun and told a teacher, who then notified the headmaster and deputies.

No bullets were found on the student.

The student has been charged with one count of carrying a weapon on school property and was released to the custody of his parents.

"But you couldn't tell that fact from the partisan rhetoric coming out the Capitol the last couple of weeks. The fight started when Democrats who voted against a bill designed to make it easier for people to defend themselves with deadly force were accused of being anti-gun in flyers distributed in their districts by the Republican Party. OH: Why label different types of violence? (letter)

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Why when violence involves a firearm do you call it "gun violence"? I never see the words "knife violence" or "brick violence" mentioned. As a matter of fact, you run very few stories of any other kind of violence but those involving firearms.

There's no such thing as gun violence; there's just plain violence. Separating violence involving a firearm is both disingenuous and purposeful on The Enquirer's part. Demonize the object and make people fear it, and it's much easier to get rid of it. The Enquirer seems to always have trouble placing the blame for violence where it belongs - on society's lap.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling in terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? [...] The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!" Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago (Chapter 1 "Arrest")
