A coalition of conservationists is petitioning Idaho and Wyoming to make hunters carry bear spray when theyre within the Yellowstone ecosystem.

Humans are the leading cause of grizzly bear deaths in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and a lot of those deaths are from hunters.

In 2017, 59 grizzly bears died in the Yellowstone area, and 15 of those were caused by hunters acting in self-defense.

Heres what happens: A hunter shoots an elk, and then starts to gut the animal.

The Ruger Single Six hearkens back to the popularity of TV Westerns that came with the dawn of television in the households of ordinary Americans in the 1950s. Back then, Ruger was a newcomer to the gamenot the giant it is today. Colt stopped producing their legendary Single Action Army Revolver so they could focus on production for World War II contracts. By the time Colt got around to starting production again, Ruger and others showed up with their own single action designs, at the same time when those neat TV shows were generating renewed interest in the guns the cowboys and lawmen carried.

California's strict gun laws have been landed in jeopardy after a judge threw out the decades-old ban on high-capacity magazines, sparking a "buying frenzy," a new ban and another court battle.

US District Judge Roger Benitez ordered a halt to the sale of magazines holding more than 10 rounds in California until the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decides whether to reinstate the state's ban on them.

We didnt have any ability to say it wasnt a self-defense scenario, Ozanne said Friday. Obviously, self-defense is an issue. I think that came out of (the police) investigation, which I think we dont disagree with.

Self-defense is an issue, Ozanne said, because of a scenario in which Moore displayed a gun first before he was shot.

The NRA mounted a campaign against the act, urging lawmakers to vote against it.

"The gun control lobby and anti-gun politicians are intentionally politicizing the Violence Against Women Act as a smoke screen to push their gun control agenda," NRA spokesperson Jennifer Baker told the Associated Press. Baker insisted the group opposes domestic violence and all violent crime, and told the AP the group annually spends millions to teach Americans how to safely use firearms in self-defense.

The Alaska Human Rights Commission board came down on the side of the agencys executive director, allowing her to keep her job, but requiring a brief suspension and a public apology for her misdeeds.

Marti Buscaglia was the subject of a state investigation because she harassed and subtly threatened an Alaskan over his truck decal, which she decided was hate speech. It was, in fact, the truck owners commentary on the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

There are groups and individuals out there who have kept the makers of military-style, semi-automatic weapons busy for decades. They enthusiastically, even fervently, declare themselves militia in the sense and under the authority of the Second Amendment to the Constitution. Some of them are veterans. None of these groups meet any standard of a military organization with regard to training, sustainment or discipline; their military value is close to zero.

Large-capacity magazines are off the market for California gun owners again.

A federal judge who last week struck down a California law banning high-capacity firearm magazines has agreed to halt temporarily the implementation of his decision while the state prepares to challenge his ruling at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal.

The stay in the ruling means California gun owners cannot buy magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. They can keep large-capacity magazines they own.

The trend of local police departments and sheriffs' offices kowtowing to the anti-gun crowd a trend that has been growing for decades seems to be reversing. Take the state of Washington as an example. Roughly half the sheriffs in the state are flat refusing to enforce a litany of anti-gun regulations that are part of a law passed last fall because those regulations are unconstitutional.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S.
