The Wayne County CPL Division will be further delayed in processing concealed pistol license applications and renewals when it closes at least three days after a worker tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Tuesday.

While the division is closed through Friday, customers with appointments will be contacted to reschedule, the county said in a statement.

Updates are available online on the Wayne County Clerks website. Staffers can be reached for questions at (313) 967-6938.

Before reopening, the office will undergo deep cleaning and the entire staff must be tested and cleared to return to work, county officials said.

A key legislative committee has voted to expand a Connecticut law that allows guns to be temporarily seized from troubled firearms owners.

The law, which was originally enacted in 1999, has helped those who were suicidal or in danger of hurting others, lawmakers said.

The law has prevented hundreds of deaths in our state ... primarily suicides, said Rep. Stephen Stafstrom, a Bridgeport Democrat who co-chairs the legislatures judiciary committee.

* House Bill 118, by Rep. Lina Ortega (D-El Paso) bans the private transfer of firearms between certain family members, friends and fellow gun owners and requires such transactions to be conducted through a licensed gun dealer -- which includes extensive federal paperwork, government approval and payment of an undetermined fee. This so-called "universal background check" scheme will not impact crime and is unenforceable without a gun registry. This is the state version of HR 8, being pushed by Pelosi and national gun control advocates.

According to recent reports, the Biden Administration is planning to impose an entire package of executive-backed gun control as soon as tomorrow. President Biden, in what could very well be a high watermark for oppressive executive action-based gun control efforts, is said to be planning severe restrictions that are likely to violate the Second Amendment rights of millions.

This new decree from an administration already infamous for both its disdain for American gun owners and its willingness to skirt the legislative process, could seek to force law-abiding firearm parts and non-firearm objects to be subject to federal firearms laws, and buyers of these parts to be treated as firearm purchasers.

A combination of factors is driving up the sale of firearms in East Texas.

Talk from some lawmakers about more gun control measure, and even stimulus checks, have gun shops doing great business.

A new shipment of guns and supplies has come in to Arl-La-Tex guns in Gilmer. But owner Logan Green says they wont be in stock for long.

Weve been getting guns in, we put them out on the shelf and before we can get them into the case they sell, he says.

Today, the House voted 69-47 to advance House Bill 3096 after second reading. This clears the way for H. 3096 to receive a third reading tomorrow, where the House can vote to pass it.

House Bill 3096 allows a law-abiding adult to carry a handgun without first having to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have the right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. Additionally, this legislation maintains the existing Concealed Weapon Permit (CWP) system, so citizens who still wish to obtain a permit may do so.

In the early 1980s, the combined wisdom of Jeff Cooper and Whit Collins created the 10mm Auto cartridge. Dornaus & Dixon introduced their Bren Ten pistol as Norma, their initial commercial loading for it, a 200-grain FMJ bullet running at 1,200 feet per second at 37,500 lbs. per square inch pressure. The Bren didnt survive, but three things happened to save the 10mm  1) Colt chambered their Government Model for it as the Delta Elite, keeping it available to shooters; 2) The FBI, briefly, adopted the 10mm in the form of the Smith & Wesson Model 1076;

Whats the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name of the company FN America? Well, for some, its the FN FAL. Others might think of the M249 SAW. Perhaps youre a science-fiction fan and the futuristic P90 is what jumps out at you, with its top-mounted, sideways-loading magazine. For handguns, purists will point out that Fabrique Nationale is engraved on the slides of countless Hi Powers, but for the bulk of folks, that will indelibly be linked to Browning, for obvious, albeit not entirely correct reasons. Point is, when it comes to handguns, FN is probably not the first company that comes to mind.

Among the actions Biden will take will be to direct the Department of Justice to begin, within 30 days, the process of requiring buyers of so-called ghost guns homemade or makeshift firearms that lack serial numbers to undergo background checks and, within 60 days, regulating concealed assault-style firearms, according to the White House.

More than 100 House Democrats wrote to Biden last week, urging him to take action on the concealed assault-style firearms, which is similar to the one used in the Colorado shooting in which 10 people were killed.

TX: Texas Republicans have long pushed to allow 'constitutional carry' of guns. Proponents say this year is their best chance.

Texas Republicans have long taken pride in the states reputation as a bastion for gun ownership but time and again theyve stopped short of passing a law allowing handguns to be carried without a permit.

This year, however, proponents of what Republicans call constitutional carry say they have the best shot in the Legislature theyve had in years. The momentum follows a shake-up in House leadership, who handed influential positions to supporters of the legislation, and comes as the practice is gaining traction in statehouses across the country. Meanwhile, gun control advocates are sounding the alarm about making it easier to carry firearms on the heels of three recent mass shootings out of state and two in Texas in 2019.

A law expanding where Ohioans can use lethal force in self-defense went into effect Tuesday.

The measure expands the so-called stand your ground right from an individuals house and car to any place, if that person is in a place in which the person lawfully has a right to be.

Governor Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 175 into law in January, after previously hinting he would veto the bill.

It was a well-written bill, Tallen told Dudrick. It needed some attention, and it got attention. (And) it reached a form which really wouldve addressed everybodys concerns.

Then it received the poison-pill treatment and was drastically amended on third reading. And so, although it passed the Senate, it no longer deserved to pass the Senate, and at that point the House just turned its back on it and walked away.

Tallen said an amendment on third reading by Republican Sen. Larry Hicks absolutely gutted the bill. The amendment wouldve included giving the state attorney general and governor the power to decide whether or not a Wyoming citizens Second Amendment rights were violated.

Fort Wayne Republican Sen. Liz Brown, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee where the bill has been sitting, declined to give the bill a hearing before the deadline, effectively killing the legislation.

Instead, in the last week bills can be heard in committee, she gave a hearing to a resolution emphasizing the Indiana Senate's commitment "to protect the constitutional right to keep and bear arms."

While Senate Resolution 39 says the Senate supports firearm rights, it does not eliminate permits. Unlike bills, such resolutions are largely symbolic and do not have the force of law when passed. The committee did approve the resolution.

Ohios new Stand Your Ground law went into effect Tuesday, but already a bill has been introduced at the Statehouse that would gut it.

State Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) says hes hearing from ordinary Ohioans, as well as business groups, who are discouraged about the law that removes the duty to retreat before firing a gun at someone.

Joe and Suzanne Buckeye were not pounding on the Statehouse doors, saying We need more extreme firearms legislation, Miller said.

But amid the public outcry over gun violence, the Supreme Court's nine members are meeting behind closed doors to discuss whether to add to next term's docket disputes over gun regulations, with a ruling from the justices potentially having far-reaching implications for firearms restrictions at the federal and state levels.

The high court could say as soon as mid-April whether it will hear cases involving the constitutionality of licenses to carry concealed handguns in public or the rights of convicted felons to possess firearms, and gun rights supporters and some of the justices themselves argue the Supreme Court is long overdue to define the reach of the Second Amendment.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
...but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights... Alexander Hamilton speaking of standing armies in Federalist No. 29.
