Legislation that would allow "red flag" orders barring people deemed a danger to themselves or others from access to firearms is struggling in Juneau...
H.B. 75, introduced last year by Anchorage Democratic Rep. Geran Tarr, would deny before a crime is committed a person access to firearms & ammunition after a police officer, a judge or a magistrate deemed him or her a "dangerous individual."
The measure defines a "dangerous individual" as someone who is an immediate danger to themselves or others, or who will be a risk "in the future."
The definition seems vague enough to strip almost all Democrats, politicians and bureaucrats of their firearms forthwith. They are, it could be argued, immediate or future dangers to everybody. |

A gun openly carried by a spectator at a school concert in 2015 has turned into a major legal case as the Michigan Supreme Court considers whether the state's public schools can trump the Legislature and adopt their own restrictions on firearms.
The case from Ann Arbor has been on the court's docket for more than a year. But arguments set for Wednesday are getting extra attention in the wake of a Florida school shooting in February that killed 17.
There's no dispute that Michigan law bars people from possessing a gun inside a weapon-free school zone. But there's a wrinkle: Someone with a concealed pistol permit can enter school property with a gun that's openly holstered. |

The notion is crystal clear, if one is white, conservative, and formulates an opinion about Martin Luther King, they are undeniably racist, or at least ignorantly prejudiced.
Have a look at this well-written, but extremely biased oped, and platform for a race-baiting rant against the entire firearms community, where the writer even manages to capture the entire perverted framework of the George Soros systemic attack on reason and freedom. (I would love to buy the writer a beer and talk about the world, but I am afraid I would not be able to get a word in.)

Michelle Camp looked around the crowded range where a group of men was taking turns shooting a rifle, and gunfire echoed loudly off the concrete walls. In lane No. 1, she calmly unrolled a new paper target. It was a Christmas tree with ornaments for bulls-eyes. Leftovers, she shrugged, pinning it to the rack. Camp slid the sheet 5 yards out. With a deep breath, she raised her handgun. Her first shot hit a little low, blowing a clean hole through the right leg of a gingerbread man.

This quote has more meaning today than ever before. The sad truth, however, is that in some jurisdictions, were heading in that direction as more gun control laws are proposed and passed. Since the Parkland, Fla., tragedy, anti-gun advocates have pushed a number of gun control proposals, some new, some old. One proposal that has garnered attention in a number of state legislatures is to restrict the age of firearm purchase and possession to those who have reached 21. Federal law currently restricts handgun purchases to 21; for long guns (shotguns and rifles), it is 18.

Can we just agree that people who kick moose should pack all their stuff and move to Arkansas? That's another state that starts with an "A." Seriously. Who in their right mind kicks a moose?
This week a commonsense gun law stalled in the halls of Juneau because there are a few lawmakers who are afraid of the NRA.
What has been called a "red flag" law has been introduced. Here's what a red flag law is it is sometimes called an extreme risk protection order law. It allows a judge to issue an order that enables law enforcement to confiscate guns from individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others.
We have to do more to protect each other. To the Legislature, do your job.

Their classmates took to the streets to protest gun violence & to implore adults to restrict guns, seeming to forecast a generational shift in attitudes toward the 2nd Amendment. But at high school & college gun ranges around the country, these teens and young adults gather to practice shooting and talk about the positive influence firearms have had on their lives.
What do they say they learn? Patience. Discipline. Responsibility.
Ive never gone out onto a range and not learned something new, said Lydia Odlin, a 21-year-old member of the Georgia Southern University rifle team.
You cant become a quality shooter without becoming a quality person off the range too. The amount of focus just blends right into schoolwork, she said. |

Maryland already has a reputation for having some of the toughest gun control laws in the country. Continued concerns with gun violence, however, prompted state lawmakers to pursue further restrictions on firearms during this year's Maryland General Assembly. This week, the Maryland General Assembly approved a ban on rapid fire trigger activators, otherwise known as bump stocks. Bump stocks, devices that can be attached to a semiautomatic rifle to make it shoot faster, use recoil to make the weapon bump back and forth between the shooter's shoulder and trigger finger. |

Golf-themed fundraisers for a good cause dont need to be held outside or use golf clubs, as was aptly demonstrated in Morgantown Saturday. The golf-themed Morgantown Shootout at Defense In Depth, a firearms training center and indoor range, benefited the local veteran-run Operation Welcome Home program. For the first fundraiser of its kind in the state, participants moved along a shooting range, stopping at each lane to shoot a different firearm at targets that looked like holes on a golf course. The number of shots taken depended on the par for each target. |

Let me try to lay out my biases here as best I can. I grew up in southern New Hampshire, which was basically the country quickly being absorbed into suburban Boston. Driving to school through a subdivision, I once had to wait for a moose to cross the road. I played Class S soccer, meaning small high schools. Wed often have to drive two hours north for games, and sometimes a kid on the other team would have a hunting rifle mounted in the back window of his pickup truck in the parking lot. |

More than 300 gun-rights activists many of them armed with rifles, shotguns and handguns peacefully held a rally Saturday in the normally quiet enclave of Olmos Park to demand the dismissal of Police Chief Rene Valenciano and protest the behavior of his officers. What brings me here is the abuse of open carriers by Olmos Park PD, and we're not going to stand for it, said Ken Grant, a member of the group Open Carry Texas who had brought a World War II-era rifle, a Ruger handgun and a fishing pole with a plastic donuts dangling from it that he called tyrant bait for police. |

Archbishop Robert J. Carlson has a message for Missouri lawmakers. You can stand for guns in churches. Or you can stand for religious liberty. But you cant stand for both. The leader of the Roman Catholic Church in the St. Louis region sent the message to lawmakers last week in a letter that was also signed by the other three Catholic bishops in the state: the Most Rev. James V. Johnston Jr. of Kansas City-St. Joseph, the Most Rev. W. Shawn McKnight of Jefferson City and the Most Rev. Edward M. Rice of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese.

It is creepy enough when an adult gets involved in a twitter conversation with high school students discussing dating, and the already disturbing narrative reaches a whole new level of pathological and sinister intentions, when the adult starts hurling insults at one of the kids.
Throw in the reality that the adult was a senior adviser for Planned Parenthood, the kid was one of the Parkland shooting tragedy survivors, and the entire conversation surrounded an invitation to prom rudely interrupted by a soulless extremist.
