------- Note that these rifles have not been used in any terrorist attacks. However, Mr. Moran and his gun banner buddies will use any excuse and even play the "terrorism" card to push through their anti-freedom agenda. |

"A look at history will show us that gun control does not benefit ordinary citizens. In fact it makes them far more likely to fall victim to violent crime. After a thorough investigation of the history of gun control, any logical-thinking person can only come to one conclusion - gun control advocates are either ignorant or they are evil."
"The only people empowered by gun control laws are governments and criminals. And unfortunately sometimes one is the other. ..." |

"Gun control scholar Alan Korwin calls attention to a front-page story in the Arizona Tribune that credulously reported a local 17-year-old's conclusion that 'almost nobody uses their guns in self-defense.' High-school senior John Denton started his research project when he was 12 by collecting Tribune articles about defensive gun uses from April through June 1998. With help from his father, William Fabricius, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, Denton followed up on the cases to see how they were resolved by the legal system. 'Of 81 incidents in which a gun was used,' the Tribune reported, 'only two were legitimately for self-defense.' The father-son team concluded that survey data indicating as many as 2.5 million defensive gun uses a year in the U.S. must be wrong. Fabricius certified his son's work, which will be published in the Canadian journal Injury Prevention, as 'scientific.' "
"As Korwin notes, this study has the same weakness as research that estimates defensive gun use based on police records: The data represent just a small share of the total. Most cases where guns are used in self-defense--which (according to surveys by criminologist Gary Kleck and others) typically means brandishing the weapon to ward off an attacker--do not show up in police records, and they are not covered by the news media. ..."
"Can you imagine conducting a similar 'study' that finds most black people are either criminals, entertainers or sports figures, based on an analysis of blacks who are covered in the paper? It is too outrageous to consider! Can you then see how similarly flawed your father-and-son project was, as far as meaningful research goes?" |

This is an excellent and lengthy essay by Peter Mancus on liberty and the right to keep and bear arms...
"Anyone who tells you you need to surrender your rights for dependence on government to protect you is your enemy. I repeat: your enemy." ...
"Alleged necessity has always been the historical plea of tyrants and their useful idiots. When you hear anyone advocate that it is necessary to surrender any right codified in the Bill of Rights to promote the general welfare, that person is your enemy. Regardless of that person's intentions or good faith, that person is your enemy. A well intentioned person can still be, and often is, your enemy."

A Beltsville man is going to court to challenge the Maryland law requiring built-in locks on new handguns sold in the state.
Gun rights advocate Jim Purtilo filed a lawsuit this week claiming that the state's law is being enforced too strictly and should still allow gun dealers to sell some weapons that don't have built-in locks.
The law has been on the books for four years.
Purtilo believes that a safety switch already available on most firearms meets the requirements of the law - even if lawmakers didn't intend it that way. The law requires an 'integrated safety device' and Purtilo says that's vague enough to allow the sale of firearms with typical safety switches. |

The House came up short of the two-thirds vote needed to over-ride Gov. Sebelius' veto of a concealed handgun bill.
Thursday's vote to over-ride was 77-to-47. But that's seven shy of what's needed.
The bill itself passed the House on April first with just 78 votes. It would have required the attorney general's office to issue a concealed-carry permit to any Kansan 21 or older who is a U.S. citizen, pays a $150 application fee, has no mental illness or drug or alcohol addiction, and completes eight hours of training.
Sebelius said concern over safety issues led in part to her veto.
