FULL TEXT BELOW:
I have had it confirmed for me that the Kansas City Mall Shooting at the Ward Parkway Center that occurred yesterday was in Gun Free Zone. Security at the mall confirms that guns are banned there.
Information on the previous mall shooting in Utah, which was also a gun free zone, can be found here. At some point, the rate of these shootings in gun free zones is going to become to overwhelming for anyone to ignore. |

"Rep. Cruz should be hung from the tree of liberty for treasonous acts against the Constitution."
Those words on a banner unfurled on the Capitol steps during a pro-gun rally touched off a firestorm of controversy - anger by gun supporters at the way the media covered it, disgust by many gun advocates attending the rally, cries of outrage from the Legislative Black Caucus and calls for criminal investigations by Angel Cruz and the caucus. It was ugly. |

Guest Editor Shelly Collins, writing in Handgunning Magazine of the incident, which though it occurred in 1991 is just as relevant today, notes:
"When a demented killer can stand unthreatened in a crowded public place, methodically reloading his weapon time after time while shooting down scores of his fellow citizens, his unresisting victims must share the blame for their own deaths. And the unarmed survivors are silent accomplices...The real tragedy is that (the shooter's) victims have been conditioned by the moral arbiters of liberal society into thinking that because they were civilized, the entire universe was civilized, into thinking they were safe." |

Since Giuliani also claims to support "the right to bear arms" (a right that is actually mentioned in the Constitution), he should, by similar logic, advocate the use of taxpayer money to buy guns for poor people. But the idea would never occur to him, because his sudden interest in the Second Amendment, like his sudden interest in strict constructionism, is merely an affectation intended to allay the concerns of Republican primary voters. |

Thousands flocked to the Crossroads of the West Gun Show over the weekend, continuing a trend of higher attendance in a year that has seen widely publicized mass shootings and a congressional change of the guard.
The two-day show at the South Towne Exposition Center attracted about 10,000 people, much higher attendance than usual, according to Bob Templeton of Kaysville, general manager of the show. The more popular February show, which normally draws between 8,000 and 9,000 people to Sandy, this year drew 12,000, he said. |

Are police in Northcentral Wisconsin prepared for a mass shooting like the ones at Virginia Tech, an Amish school house, and a Kansas City shopping mall?
The Wausau Police Department says it doesn't matter where you live in the world today - there is a real threat of a mass shooting any where at any time.
Ed.: For values of "any where at any time" where "any where" equals "victim disarmament zones", like almost anywhere outside your home in Wisconsin. |

Evidently, many of our politicians fail to learn from history and are incapable of objectively evaluating crime and firearm statistics. The knee-jerk response to this latest tragedy has been to call for increased legislation restricting firearms on campus and to call for more gun-control legislation in general. I agree with Mr. Thomas' statement "Laws don't deter people with criminal intent; otherwise our prisons would be empty." Awareness and self defense are by necessity a personal responsibility. It is unrealistic to think that police departments will ever be able to assume the role of personal bodyguards for the citizens they serve, yet many politicians seem determined to deprive us of the means to provide for our own security. |

Police are investigating a home invasion--partially. They're also digging for evidence in a shooting. 26-year-old DeMarcus Williams is dead. Investigators say Williams, armed and wearing a mask, tried to break into an apartment. The guy who lives there opened fire. According to police, he does not face any charges. At one time, state law would've required the shooter prove a reasonable threat. |

Gun-free zones have yet to apply to the bad guys; it is just a very dangerous place for honest students and citizens. Just like additional gun control laws, who do you really expect to comply with the laws? Remember, no law prevents anything. |

College campuses won't be added to a proposal to allow Tennesseans to carry handguns in public parks and recreation areas - at least not yet.
"That issue (of guns on campus) is covered by an entirely separate section of the law," said state Rep. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains, sponsor of the legislation expanding areas where guns can be carried.
"But I do think it's something that we maybe ought to consider looking at next year. There has been some talk about doing that. What happened at Virginia Tech is an example of what can happen if there's nobody there to stop it." |

Sheriff Gil Gilbertson has been warning the public of potentially dangerous cuts to public safety, and it looks like his message is getting through.
The sheriff's office reported nearly 430 applications for concealed weapons permits since the first of the year. That number wasn't reached until mid-July last year. |

Brenda Freeman of Decatur calls firearms on school campuses "a double-edged sword," but she voted for them in an online poll.
She was in the majority. The question was "Should concealed weapons be allowed on college campuses?" Eighty-eight Daily readers (61.5 percent) voted yes, and 55 voted no.
The two-day, unscientific poll ended Sunday at www.decaturdaily.com. |

EVANSTON - Victims of violent crime - including those in the April 16 massacre at Virginia Tech - often are unaware of the potential "weapons" that can save their lives, and much of what they've been taught about self-defense and crime prevention is wrong.
That's what Debbie Gardner told about 320 people who came to the Courage and Weapon Survival Seminar on Sunday at Xavier University's Cintas Center.
"The Virginia Tech disaster gives all law-abiding citizens a reason to look for options besides jumping out of windows, laying down on the floor or closing a door to hold a gunman back," Gardner said afterward. |

Mayor Frank Jackson said on Monday that there are two victims in the recent shooting of a 15-year-old youth in Cleveland: the teenager, Arthur Buford and Damon Wells, the man who shot him in self-defense. Wells, 25, shot Buford to death as the teen tried to rob him at gunpoint near Wells' home. Wells, who had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, was not charged. After the shooting, vandals threw rocks through the windows of Wells' home, and he moved out. |

But talk at the shop since the Virginia Tech shootings has focused on ways to prevent similar tragedies, whether with more gun control or less. The debate has evoked strong responses from both sides. Some argue that if students and staff in Blacksburg had been allowed to carry weapons on campus, the bloodbath could have been stopped. "We have a problem with all these gun-free schools because they're really not gun-free," said Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. "These sociopaths and maniacs and people who are just plain evil don't care about gun-free zones." |

The Second Amendment Foundation today sent a letter to ABC News President David Westin, asking that reporter Sam Donaldson be barred from ever again reporting on gun rights issues, because he is serving as master of ceremonies at a fund-raiser for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
Donaldson is hosting the event May 15 in Washington, D.C. His appearance, said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb, reinforces the opinion of this nation's gun owners that ABC and its reporters for the most part share an anti-gun philosophy. |

I cannot help but think that things could have been different at Virginia Tech. As a Tech student and a Concealed Handgun Permit holder, I have requested that the university allow me, and those who wish to be responsible for their own safety, the ability to carry a legally licensed firearm as a means of self-defense without fear of expulsion or termination from employment.
...
Are we really expected to think that the shooter thought, "I shouldn't go on a murderous rampage, it's against school policy. I could be expelled"?
Can't we all see how ridiculous that is? This policy asks students, faculty and staff to choose between their education and their lives. Is that a choice we should be forced to make? |

Words fail me...at first I wondered if it was a joke. I'll let this guy do his own summary:
"The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm."

For one week every January, Delaware hunters can carry a handgun into the woods to hunt. The legislative battle in 2005 to establish a handgun hunting season in the First State followed pro-gun lobby victories to protect shooting ranges and to recognize "concealed carry" permits from states that recognize Delaware's. Delaware was one of the last states in the nation to add a handgun hunting season. The bill passed in large measure because of the efforts of the man who wrote the legislation -- gun-rights lobbyist John Sigler, a Delaware native, retired Dover police captain and corporate attorney. |

In the old A&P market here, which was in the old Western Hotel built in 1850, are found the twin businesses which constitute Marino's Outdoor World: Marino Firearms Inc., and clothing and footwear seller D.J. Marino. "We're one of the last of the old-time sporting goods stores on Main Street in America," said Don Marino, 80. His father, Dominic, opened a tailoring shop in this old river and railroading village in 1923. He was still fixing pants in 1991 when he died at age 89. The last few years have been financially difficult for the enterprises. Customers have been lost to big-box stores, online sellers and catalog companies that place enormous orders with manufacturers. |

Carolina have warned those on campus to take extra safety precautions after a reported assault Friday evening.
The alleged assault took place near UNC's Arboretum around 11 p.m., police said, when a female UNC student was walking through the Arboretum and was grabbed from behind.
Public safety officials urged students and staff at the university to avoid walking alone at night and to frequent well-lit areas on campus. They also advised people to immediately report any and all suspicious activity to law enforcement by calling 911.
Submitters note: Another victim disarmament zone assualt. And the only advise they can provide is to avoid walking alone at night. |

The following are facts. Make of them what you choose.
On Sunday night, April 15th, 12 hours before Cho Seung-Hui began his killing spree on the Virginia Tech campus, "Dateline NBC" devoted its entire show to telling the story of psychotic murderer Robert Hyde.
Hyde was a bright young man from Albuquerque who began to suffer a steady mental deterioration until, one day, in 2005, at different locations, he shot and killed five people.
Beyond the murders, the NBC show stressed that Hyde was a time bomb who was released from police custody and hospital care despite frightening episodes and warnings from many, including his family, that eventually there would be hell to pay, that eventually he would kill.
