"A gun rights group on Tuesday ridiculed Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) for admitting he was under the influence of at least two prescription drugs when he crashed his car on Capitol Hill."

"'I'd rather go quail hunting with Dick Cheney than get in a car being driven by a Kennedy,' said Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) founder Alan M. Gottlieb. 'As it stands right now, I think Congress should consider mandating drug testing of its members before they vote on legislation that would take away any of our civil rights.'" ...

"Gottlieb said that under federal law, 18 USG 922(G)(3), now that Kennedy has admitted he has a drug problem, it is probably illegal for him to own a gun." ...

"Citizens For A Safer Minnesota have a most mistaken notion of that state's adoption of the Stand Your Ground movement. In their April 4th, 2006 press release, Citizens For A Safer Minnesota referred to the Florida birthplace of that movement and cited three incidents where people died in the commission of a crime. The thrust of the position is that the law promotes murder as the recent experience with its new legislation." ...

"Mistaken again, Mrs. Brady announces that the people of Florida are somehow identical to the criminal shooters, the hot-heads, the aggressive who shouldn't even be in possession of any weapon, madam. The acts Brady cites are likely criminal in nature, and not at all likely to meet a standard of self-defense. ..." ...

"Handling a gun stirs a hormonal reaction in men that primes them for aggression, new research suggests."

"Psychologists at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., enrolled 30 male students in what they described as a taste study. The researchers took saliva samples from the students and measured testosterone levels."

"... on the table were pieces of paper and either the board game Mouse Trap or a large handgun. Their instructions: Take apart the game or the gun and write directions for assembly and disassembly."

"Fifteen minutes later, the psychologists measured saliva testosterone again and found that the levels had spiked in men who had handled the gun but had stayed steady in those working with the board game." ...

"I was perusing the May 2006 print edition of the American Rifleman when an advertisement for Barrett Firearms Manufacturing (featured on page 66) caught my eye. ... what caught my attention and, upon further reflection my admiration, was a tiny small-print blurb at the bottom corner of the ad. This inkblot read as follows:"

"'The California Legislature has banned the .50 BMG from the good citizens of the state of California , violating their rights and the constitution of our republic. Therefore, Barrett will not sell to or service any California government agencies.'"

"That was indeed refreshing! Barrett was willing to forgo any sort of government business ... because of the state of California's laws ..." ...

"On the afternoon of April 21, in the Talent Middle School parking lot, Ritchie fired his air gun in the vicinity of a female student. The projectiles - plastic BBs - ricocheted off a car and no harm was done, but Ritchie had committed a major transgression as far as school policy goes." ...

"Staback's bill makes it clear that the gun cannot be used to harvest game. However, it's nice to see Staback and the bill's 42 co-sponsors recognize that a sportsman's Second Amendment rights don't end when he clips a hunting license onto the back of his jacket."

"New Yorkers, at least some of them, don't feel that properly supervised 14- and 15-year-olds should be allowed to hunt big game. It might be considered crass of me to note here that New York is the only state in the nation to feel this way - we are the only state to limit big game hunting to 16-year-olds and older."

"Our neighbors in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine all have a lower minimum age and Vermont is one of 26 states that has no minimum age at all.
