"'But it turns out Burke really didnt need to obtain all these licenses to be able to carry a weapon thanks to a law that dates back to 1872 that delegates mayors and aldermen as peace officers,' NBC Chicago reported in a December profile that also reveals how, in a political dispute with then-mayor Harold Washington, 'After saying he received threats, Burke was given a four-man bodyguard detail.'" ... |

"As soon as Robert texted me to let me know that Defense Distributed had been targeted by a Department of State letter to take down their files, I gave Cody a ring. I figured hed be knee-deep in crisis management mode, but when he came on the line he sounded like the same calm, cool and collected Cody we had dinner with only a couple of days before. I asked him about this latest development, and the plan going forward and he laid his cards on the table for me . . ." ... |

"It had to happen. The National Shooting Sports Foundations hand was forced when Reed Exhibitions decided, post-Newtown, that 'assault rifle' sellers would be persona non grata at another show they manage, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show. ... Now the NSSF, no doubt after a significant amount of negotiation and possibly a hefty payment, has just announced that after thirty years together, theyve officially given Reed the heave ho. As an attendee, I can attest that Reed did a first rate job of managing the heavily-attended SHOT carnival. But Reeds newfound hoplophobia made any ongoing relationship with the NSSF completely untenable. We can only hope that the new exhibition company thats selected is as competent . . ." ... |

... "Why then is there not greater support for gun rights in urban communities where the need for self-protection is so great? Why are so many Second Amendment activists rural and suburban white people who use firearms primarily for recreation, and not urban-dwellers often black or Latino whose potential firearm ownership might actually save their lives?"
"Why is the NRA so white?" ... -------

Steve Stockman is showing off his Second Amendment fervor by doing what some consider unthinkable: giving away a Bushmaster AR-15rifle, the same weapon crazed murderer [name redacted] used in his December massacre at a Connecticut elementary school." ...

"The Internet is good for many things -- conspiracy theories, shopping, sharing funny pictures with friends. But it may prove to be very, very bad for the extreme gun-rights movement."
"Here are a few recent stories that the Web, in its collective wisdom, has plucked from relatively obscure locales in the past week and elevated to national prominence." ... -------
KABA Note: Here's something else the internet is good for; providing the information (via CDC's WISQARS) that between 2001 and 2010 an average of 45 children (12 and under) a year died due to accidental gunshots. Wanna know how many died in accidental falls? Almost twice as many; 84.3 per year. Accidentally drowned? 709.2 per year. Suffocated? 1011.3 per year. Guns are not an issue here. |

"The Manchin-Toomey amendment failed in the U.S. Senate on April 17th, 2013, with a vote of 54 yeas and 46 nays. The Commander in Chief subsequently gathered the bills supporters and summoned the media to the Rose Garden for a vicious tongue-lashing. With a crying Vice President in tow, President Obama blasted the bills opponents as anti-democratic obstructionists and excoriated the 60-vote rule as 'an abuse of procedure' which must be abolished for the sake of all that we hold sacred. But you probably didnt hear that a pro-gun bill failed in the U.S. Senate yesterday, drawing 56 yeas and 43 nays. Where is the Presidents wrath now? Whither Joe Bidens bitter tears? . . ." ... |

"A proposed weapons-free zone ordinance was voted down Thursday night by the Board of Aldermen."
"By a 7-1 vote, the board approved a motion 'not to adopt' the ordinance. Alderman John 'Jack' Finn, the only Democrat on the board and the alderman who proposed the ordinance, cast the sole vote in favor of the measure."
"But Finn said the issue isn't dead: 'I'm still waiting for the city's corporation counsel to give his legal opinion on it.'"

"America is no longer split between Democrat and Republican. Its now divided between citizens who believe in big government and those who consider small government the key to personal liberty. Social unity vs. individual rights. Economic dependency vs. financial self-sufficiency. Not to put too fine a point on it, its a struggle between slavery and freedom.
