#5 Nickel-Plated Lead Ammo: #5 NP Lead Explained

Nickel-plated lead shot is different from your typical lead shot in that the coating allows the shot to leave your barrel a bit smoother, gives more penetration, and can lead to easier kills when hunting pheasants and waterfowl. While this shot is more expensive than your average lead, there are definitely some benefits that make it worth the price.

The main issue is the hardness of the lead inside. A good manufacturer will use a good quality lead shot and coat it with nickel. Others use a softer lead which loses predictability, but can still have some advantages, such as less risk of lead contamination.

TOPS Knives General Manager Craig Powell likes to tinker around the shop on the weekends and has even had a hand or two in several of the companys designs. One weekend while working on a sheath project he had an Aha! moment. What, Craig asked himself, if I combined a Karambit handle with a Kiridashi blade? While not something you or I would ponder, it made perfect sense to Craig and the TOPS Poker fixed-blade was born. The Indonesian Karambit is a popular Hawkbill-style fighting knife style with a ring at the base which serves as a pivot point for accessing the knife in a variety of grips. The Japanese Kiridashi is a straight edged, bevel-bladed knife most often used in woodworking.

Like a virus attempting to infect its host, some liberal U.S. senators are trying to use Coronavirus as an excuse to stop gun sales. In a letter now made public and sent April 2 to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, several Democrat senators Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.) urged the directors of the FBI and ATF to effectively halt pending gun sales nationwide. Citing the record surge in monthly gun sales in March and April, the senators sought to enact legislation long sought before Coronavirus struck.

It is for defense against tyranny that the Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms and, as the late Jeff Cooper observed in The Art Of The Rifle, a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized. Cooper wrote, there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles. Cooper, a Marine who, as a civilian, developed the modern technique of defensive pistol shooting, knew the difference between a rifle and a handgun.

Second Amendment advocates notched a win last week in their battle with the state to keep gun shops and shooting ranges open during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite state officials deeming them non-essential and ordering them to close. Led by Leominster lawyer Andrew Couture, a group of gun stores, shooting ranges and gun rights supporters asked a federal judge in Boston for an injunction against the states order, arguing that it ran afoul of the Second Amendment.

With COVID-19 fears sweeping the nation, gun-store owners had some questions. As in, to reduce the chances of customers and shop employees getting and spreading the virus, could gun shops do business in more open-air settings like their parking lots? And maybe offer drive-thru services to their customers?
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade organization for the shooting sports industry, posed these questions to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

A top podcaster said the armed protesters who stormed the Michigan capital in late April overreacted to Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's efforts to extend a state of emergency during the coronavirus pandemic. In an interview with comedian Michael Yo, Rogan said being a proud Second Amendment supporter doesn't mean he likes the idea of people walking around with guns when participating in a political protest.

When gun-toting protesters descended on the state capitol in Richmond back in January (God, it seems like a lifetime ago) to protest Governor Ralph Northams gun control proposals, I was slow to condemn them. Im a staunch (though not fanatical) supporter of the Second Amendment, and the rally ended up being entirely peaceful. There was a certain logic to it: Northam wants to restrict our gun rights, so well demonstrate our ability to exercise them responsibly. Look! Were all standing around with AR-15s, and nobodys getting hurt.

Today, the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs (ANJRPC) filed a federal lawsuit to force the State of New Jersey to reopen outdoor ranges, which have been shut down since a March 21, 2020, executive order by Governor Murphy. Now that Murphy has allowed the reopening of parks, golf courses, and tennis courts outdoor facilities that are purely recreational and do not facilitate any Constitutionally protected activity he can no longer pretend to have any legal argument for blocking the Second Amendment right of citizens to build and maintain firearms proficiency at outdoor ranges.
