Despite a history of abusing women and violent behavior in prison, Joshua Allan Jackson managed to become a federal informant, trigger a citywide Seattle police alert and hold a 18-year-old woman as his sexual prisoner. A felon with a lengthy history of violence against women, Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in prison April 13 for sexually abusing an 18-year-old woman and holding her against her will for days inside a cheap South Seattle motel last year. ... For all of this, the 34-year-old Jackson would be just another habitual criminal except for one startling fact: He was working the entire time as a paid informant for the Seattle office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. |

Who gets to see the evidence against George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer awaiting trial on a charge of second-degree murder? Today, that will likely become a point of dispute between lawyers in the case and the most powerful news companies in the country. Defense attorney Mark O'Mara has said he expects to get his first look at the evidence today. He has also warned that he will likely file paperwork, asking the judge to keep key elements from everyone else. If he does, lawyers for the Orlando Sentinel, The New York Times, NBC, CBS, CNN and more than a half dozen other news organizations are expected to weigh in and try to prevent that.

Richard Lewis, 52, admitted he shot 46-year-old Christopher Eugene Hankins to death. Lewis told investigators last February his former roommate broke down the door trying to get in his dwelling in the 1400 block of Old Lake Road.
When Judge Kent McDaniel heard the facts in the case, he reduced the charge from murder to manslaughter. But Lewis was freed last Friday when a Rankin County grand jury bought his argument that he acted in self-defense, and failed to indict him. |

On May 7, the US Court of Appeals in the District of Wyoming affirmed a lower courts decision that illegal immigrants do not have a right to own firearms under the US Constitution. Attorneys for the Defendant- Appellant, Emmanuel Huitron-Guizar say they will appeal to the US Supreme Court.
A ruling being hailed by many as a no brainer since persons who are here illegally do not and should not possess Second Amendment rights; yet barely a mention from the anti-gun lobby even though the law keeps guns out of the hands of would be dangerous criminals.
Ed.: I'd submit the court erred. The right to bear arms is a fundamental human right, not a privilege of citizenship or residence. Deportation is a separate issue. |

Washington gun owners rights are, once again, getting blown off by city leaders. While the city council voted unanimously on April 17 in favor of a bill to ease restrictions on Second Amendment rights, Mayor Vincent Gray has not signed the bill into law.
The mayors spokesman Pedro Ribeiro has not responded to my repeated requests for an explanation. The councils website shows the legislation had not been updated since it passed.

In an effort to capitalize on the Trayvon Martin shooting, this week, Reps. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, threatened to offer a so-called Trayvon Amendment that would cut funding to states with stand your ground laws.
The legislators quickly reversed course when they learned the motion would likely be ruled out of order. |

Advocates for expanded gun rights in Oklahoma are claiming success in the 2012 legislative session after the passage of several pro-gun measures, including one that allows permit holders to openly carry firearms.
The open-carry bill, given final approval by the Legislature last week and awaiting the governor's signature, has been a top priority for gun rights advocates in recent years. Gov. Mary Fallin already has signed a bill allowing gun owners from other states to carry concealed weapons in Oklahoma, and another bill approved by the Legislature and sent to Fallin would prohibit the governor or any other state or local official from confiscating or banning firearms during a state of emergency. |

During the just completed hearing, prosecutors did not argue Hopler should not have guns because he is blind. Been there, done that. And without success. So they argued the seized guns should not be returned and Hopler's firearm license revoked, because he was a drunk. Hopler said at most, he had two drinks a day. But prosecutors had a witness who testified differently. According to Kenneth Struck, Hopler sometimes put away as much as 30 beers in a day. Struck just happens to be the ex-tenant who stole the guns from Hopler's safe and later pleaded guilty to burglary. |

Oklahoma has looser gun laws in its sights. State legislators, last week, passed a bill that will allow Oklahomans to openly carry guns in public. The bill is now awaiting Governor Mary Fallin's signature. Fallin has already pledged her support to a "responsible" open carry law if it came to her desk. Senate Bill 1733 would essentially allow people who get concealed carry permits to openly carry their guns as well.

We wanted to see what an open carry state is like, so our Oklahoma Impact Team traveled to Oregon where it is already legal to carry guns openly in public. |

District Attorney Forrest Allgood said the decision to prosecute former Mississippi State University student Jeffrey Hill for possession of a weapon by a student on educational property should not be perceived as an "anti-gun" prosecution.
Hill, 42, was convicted in circuit court in April on the charges and was sentenced to three years in prison and fined $1,200. A previous trial on the charge, also argued by Allgood, resulted in a hung jury.
"I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment, and I'm a life-long member of the (National Rifle Association)," Allgood said.
...
"But one of the big eye-openers is that he had 440 rounds of ammunition. That's far more than the typical hunter would have in his possession." |

The group Media Matters for America hates NRA.
Few organizations have more strongly proclaimed their disdain for our right to keep and bear arms and self-protection.
According to a recent FoxNews.com op-ed piece by acclaimed author and scholar John R. Lott, Jr., in April alone, the George Soros-backed Media Matters ran no fewer than 32 articles on its website attacking NRA. |

On Friday, May 10, Governor Terry Branstad announced that he will nullify the traditional ammunition ban in Iowa.
In July 2011, the Iowa Natural Resources Commission imposed the ban after the topic was debated and resoundingly rejected by the legislature following the enactment of the first dove-hunting season since 1918. The NRC slipped in the ban on the use of all traditional ammunition while setting bag limits and other regulations with regard to the reenacted Iowa dove-hunting season. |

State Attorney Angela Corey and her prosecutors paint a very different picture of Marissa Alexander. While the she's been portrayed in the media as a domestic violence victim who lived in fear of her husband, prosecutors say it was her husband who was in fear that day in August of 2010 when he called 911.
"She just shot at me and my son. Please get the police over here. Please!" Rico Gray told the 911 dispatcher.
Corey said, "Most people in this country believe that Marissa Alexander was being choked, grabbed a gun and fired a warning shot into the ceiling. Flat wrong. Never happened that way." |

At that point 911 dispatchers were on the phone - Snarski had already dialed them - and listening as he tried to defuse the situation.
"I'm trying to talk him down, just leave, don't worry about it, it'll be OK but he was on a mission to kill," he said.
At that point Parsons fired a pair of shotgun blasts at Snarski, peppering the top of the stairwell with buckshot. Snarski decided he'd hold his fire unless the gunman tried to reach the second floor.
"I just laid on the ground around the corner and watched his shadow come up with the lights and as soon as I knew he had hit that last step I just pointed up and let him have it," he said. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942. (Source: "Hitler's Table-Talk at the Fuehrer's Headquarters 1941-1942", Dr. Henry Picker, ed. (Athenaeum Verlag, Bonn, 1951).) |
