Pistol-caliber carbines are awesome; even more so when they share ammo with a powerful sidearm. This was the original reason why I sought the Henry Big Boy rifleI wanted a carbine to share ammo with my go-to outdoors gun, the Ruger GP100 Match Champion. While the .357 Magnum round is known for its fight-stopping capability, can it truly compete with lever-gun classics like .30-30, or is it doomed to share the fate of the allegedly-anemic .30 Carbine?

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today applauded the fact checkers at PolitiFact, published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, for calling out Michael Bloombergs Everytown for Gun Safety over claims that so-called lax Georgia gun laws were somehow responsible for the slayings of New York police officers.

PolitiFact checked claims by the anti-gun-rights Everytown lobbying group that illegal guns from Georgia were involved in the murders of officer Brian Moore several days ago and officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos in December. PolitiFact determined that one of the guns had been purchased legally almost 20 years ago, and the other had been stolen almost four years ago in a gun shop burglary.

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir told a civic group Wednesday he has concerns about the states new concealed carry legislation. Starting July 1, it will be legal for most people to carry a concealed weapon in Kansas, with or without a permit.

Not that he assumes people dont carry guns without permits.

We figure everybody is probably armed, anyhow, he said.

Even people who have a conceal carry permit quickly realize that carrying a gun 24-7 is a pain, he added.

The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals yesterday handed down a victory for open carry advocates and the Fourth Amendment in a ruling that may give gun prohibitionists heartburn, but also should not be seen as a signal for open carriers to engage in deliberately provocative behavior for the benefit of video social media.

The appeals court ruled that Toledo resident Shawn Northrup can sue a city police officer for detaining him on June 16, 2010 because he was openly carrying a semiautomatic pistol while walking with his wife and their dog. Northrup was stopped, disarmed and handcuffed, and detained for about 30 minutes by Officer David Bright. The eight-page ruling may be read here.

Using comic books to get toy guns off of Clevelands streets, local non-profits have teamed up to send a strong message to kids.

Three-thousand Brink City Special Edition Kids Lives Matter comic books were printed this week and will be distributed to kids throughout Cleveland. The book uses colorful illustrations and stories to teach gun safety and promote toy gun buy backs. Several private foundations contributed to the $8,000 cost of production.

GA: Could Georgia law put confiscated guns back on the streets?

No one will argue that gun violence is a problem in Savannah.

Hundreds of guns used in crimes are confiscated by law enforcement every year, and you might think those guns are destroyed. However, that's not the case.

The law says if the gun does not have a rightful owner, police are supposed to sell them to licensed dealers. But the law hasn't always been that way.

Before 2012, police could destroy the guns they confiscated or use them for training. But in 2012, legislators changed that law, forcing police to sell the guns, with the money going back to the county

In its 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, the U.S. Supreme Court not only struck down Washington, D.C.'s handgun ban, it also struck down D.C.'s requirement that all firearms kept at home be "unloaded and dissembled or bound by a trigger lock or similar device." According to the majority opinion of Justice Antonin Scalia, the individual right secured by the Second Amendment voids such requirements because it protects the right of the people to keep a "lawful firearm in the home operable for the purpose of immediate self-defense."

On Sunday, Mothers Day, for a second time in two weeks, a woman was attacked and raped on a Chicago elevated train.

Of course, we are told we are all safer because we cant carry self defense guns on mass transit.

Concealed Carry has lowered crime rates except where there are gun free zones. Mass transit is one of those places. Each day thousands of vulnerable people board mass transit systems because they have no choice.

Frangible ammunition, with lead-free bullets, was previously used by this testing team only for building-clearing training, where its touted to pulverize on impact with walls, but put a tidy hole through cardboard targets. Today, frangible is being marketed as a worthy alternative to FMJ or HP loads for those concerned with over-penetration.

ID: 2nd Amendment shouldnt be infringed upon

The Second Amendment very plainly says the people have the right to keep and bear arms and restricts all levels and branches of the government from infringing that right. Ask yourself, is requiring a permit to carry a concealed firearm an infringement of the Second Amendment? Though the question may stimulate a good deal of discourse, it is difficult for many to simply make the obvious declaration that it certainly does. Also, answering yes is likely to make one sound extreme even in the somewhat conservative state of Idaho.

Gun rights activists are mobilizing against a new assault on the Second Amendment as a New Jersey Democrat is pushing a bill aimed at cutting down online ammunition purchases.

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman introduced the bill Monday, claiming shes trying to stop unlimited ammunition purchases over the Internet. But Second Amendment defenders see something darker at work in the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act.

On Monday, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin vetoed a popular bill that would have restricted private businesses from banning guns at public lands like parks, recreational areas, and fairgrounds. The bill, SB 41, passed the state House with widespread support in a 88-4 vote in April, and sailed through the Senate with a 39-7 vote earlier in May. Legislators say they are considering reworking the bill to gain Governor Fallins approval, but if no compromise can be reached, they will push for an override of the veto.

Students could bring a small toy gun to school, point their finger like a gun or yes even brandish "a partially consumed pastry or other food item to simulate a firearm" under a bill that became one step closer to Nevada law on Thursday.

Basically, Nevada students could do everything short of possessing a real firearm and schools would be forbidden from punishing them, according to protections proposed in Assembly Bill 121.

Tilting at windmills.

After numerous failed attempts at moving the gun-control ball forward, House Democrats have trained their sights on your ammunition.

The Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act of 2015 was introduced by Rep. Bonnie Watson (D-NJ). The bill would regulate online ammunition sales much the same way online gun sales are regulated, which means that a consumer would not be able to have an online ammunition purchase delivered to his home, but rather would have to display a photo ID to an authorized dealer to retrieve his purchase.

New Jerseys smart-gun bill was always a little bit foolish. The goal was admirable, but the attempted means to reach that goal were poorly conceived and counterproductive.

Lawmakers appear to have finally reached that same conclusion more than a decade too late. But no matter; maybe the state can now get down to the better business of bringing smart guns onto the market in a meaningful way rather than creating inadvertent roadblocks.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, the networks resident conservative who famously scaled back his support for gun rights after the Sandy Hook shooting, criticized pro-gun control liberals on Thursday.

You arent going to get 200 million guns off the street, he said during an interview with former Republican Gov. George Pataki. A lot of liberals say, No guns, no guns, no guns!'

No matter where you live, an armed home invasion is always a possibility, and according to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, you need a home defense plan.

The best law enforcement agencies in the country have response times in minutes," Ivey said. A violent criminal can take your life in seconds.

Ivey recommends three options when faced with a home invasion: run, hide or fight.

Your Old Handgun, Treasure Or Junk?

When are handguns classic treasures and when are they junk? Its a good question because many uninitiated people think just because a handgun is old its a treasure. That just isnt so. If it was junk when it was new its still junk when its old.

A simple rule to judge them by is brand name. If an old handgun carries a name such as Colt or Smith & Wesson or Remington then it just might be a treasure. The operative word there is might. A good brand of handgun can still be rendered to junk by abuse.

he North Carolina House recently voted to repeal a 145 year-old blue law that bans some kinds of hunting on private property. If the NC Senate passes the bill as well and it passes into law, the Old North State will join 41 other states where citizens may hunt with firearms on any day of the week that they desire.

Archery hunting and falconry on private lands are both already legal activities in North Carolina on any day of the week.
