While we have heard a lot of noise from gun-safety opponents about the dramatic increase in background checks as people rush to buy guns to protect their families during the pandemic, the number of times guns are used defensively in Rhode Island is practically zero (2 verified uses in 2019 and 3 in 2020). In fact, this year overall handgun sales in the U.S. were down 20% from the same month in 2020.

Throughout history, many different handgun cartridges have been introduced. And there are many reasons cartridges find the graveyard. Some have lived long lives, others have had short but great runs, and some were doomed from birth to have an unloved existence. On this list, there are handgun loads that were bad ideas from the beginning and those that never lived up to their name. But, somewhere theres someone, his two uncles, and their mother-in-law, who care about each and every one of them. Still, it doesnt matter. With these cartridges, a little bit of love isnt enough. These rounds are, or will soon be, about as dead as dead gets.

GA: Repeal of Citizens Arrest Law Will Endanger the Lives of Georgias Citizens

When this law was proposed and discussed in the state last year, following the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, I wrote a letter rebutting many of the misconceptions, deliberate omissions, and misrepresentations about the law. The letter wasnt published in any of Georgias newspapers, although I have been a guest columnist in the Macon Telegraph for many years.

My rebuttal still holds because the misrepresentations and frank mendacity used in reporting by the media about this politically correct, but misguided law are still being bandied about as if they were truths that are self-evident.

The tricky thing about dealing with statistics and information is that we first must sort between facts and evaluations. A statistic itself has no value in a void, numbers are just numbers. And when it comes to firearms ownership, we pay attention to facts, polls, and numbers, and use them as the context of various evaluations. After winning the 4th Season of History Channel's Top Shot series, Chris Cheng was introduced to the politics of firearms ownership. In the United States, Asian Americans own less guns than any other demographic. So when Chris Cheng is advising AAPI GO, short for Asian American Pacific Islander Gun Owners, he makes sure to articulate what he thinks is the right evaluation to use to inform his goals.

Around the advent of metallic cartridges, a number of ignition systems were brought to market, like pin-fire ammunition, but the rimfire was by far the most stable and most reliable. In fact, the .22 Long Rifle cartridge, which came around in 1887, is not only still in use, but extremely common in the 21st century serves a number of purposes in both the hunting and competition shooting spaces.

Julian Sanders was prosecuted for first-degree murder, weapons possession, and endangering an injured victim:

The mans brother saw the attack, pushed his brother out of the way and fatally shot Garrick, police said. The men then called 911 to report the shooting and have cooperated with police investigators.

You hear a woman scream. It is 8 in the morning, and the screams for help continue. You grab your gun and go outside. You see a woman lying on the ground with a man standing over her. The woman tries to get up and the man throws her to the ground and hits her again and again. You walk closer and shout for him to stop,

Whether Ozaukee County should become a Second Amendment sanctuary was at the heart of debate at the county board's April 20 meeting when residents and officials wrestled with a resolution that asked county supervisors to reaffirm their oaths of office.

The resolution states that the Constitution is essential in the role of the federal government and "defines the limitations of said government with respect to its inability to infringe upon the rights and liberties of all people."

The woman who won Virginias GOP nomination for lieutenant governor is defending a campaign sign of her holding a rifle, which has drawn controversy among those outside the Republican Party.

The GOP candidate, Winsome Sears, served in the Marines. She used a photo of her gripping a rifle frequently in her social media posts and in a campaign mailer.

I am a Marine. Im very comfortable with weapons, and, by the way, we do have a Second Amendment right to have these weapons. That is not an issue, Sears said.

Sringer said Cochran notified him on Wednesday that he was being fired as a captain within the department because he is sponsoring constitutional carry" gun rights legislation as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives.

Stringers House Bill 618 would allow Alabamians to carry or conceal a pistol without first obtaining a permit from their local sheriffs office. Some local sheriffs have opposed legislation such as Stringers because they have come to depend upon fees from the permitting process as a revenue generator for their offices, and others have expressed safety concerns, Stringer's news release states.

A month and a half ago, a panel on the Ninth Circuit ordered supplemental briefing in Jones v. Becerra an important Second Amendment case concerning the constitutionality of a California statute which bans the sale of firearms to individuals under the age of 21 requesting the parties address three questions:

What is the original public meaning of the Second Amendment phrases: A well regulated Militia; the right of the people; and shall not be infringed?

Second Amendment-supporting Americans are used to Hollywood elites lecturing them on how best to exercise their rights, but as the calls grow louder, its important to listen so you can be prepared to call out their lies.

Comedian Samantha Bee recently used her show to label the Second Amendment as outdated and useless, and deemed those who exercise this constitutional right as fragile old men.

Accepting Strategic Reality In New York City And Elsewhere

That said, criticism of Tucker Carlson for his excitement about Eric Adams is off base. The fact of the matter is that in places like New York City, Second Amendment supporters have to start from somewhere. Adams, in his statement about carrying a gun, offers a very good somewhere to start from, given the harsh strategic reality Second Amendment supporters face in New York.

With a major Second Amendment case coming up in the Supreme Court, this race may have some more implications than usual. First of all, Adams could be more easily persuaded than say, Andrew Yang, to move New York Citys concealed carry permit system towards shall issue in any event. This would not be guaranteed, but then again, we are talking about the Big Apple.

House Republicans are frustrated after spending only six minutes on the floor Friday morning. GOP members say theyre disappointed with this trend, especially when there are many pressing issues lawmakers could be working on.

Republicans say while another week passed in Springfield, lawmakers dont have much to show for it. Caucus leaders say Democrats left them out of critical discussions on redistricting and the budget process. Although, House Democrats said Thursday that bipartisan working groups have met.

City governments still retain limited ability to regulate the carrying of weapons in city buildings owned or occupied by the public, the City Attorneys Office in Missoula concluded in a legal opinion on Thursday.

City Attorney Jim Nugent said the states new gun laws, as stated under House Bill 102, dont prevent a local government from posting no weapons signs at government buildings.

Violating the notice remains subject to prosecution for anyone without a valid concealed weapons permit to enter the facility while armed, Nugent said.

AR-15 rifles are modular.

Push out the take-down and pivot pins and remove the AR 15 upper receiver it contains the barrel and the matching bolt carrier group, the charging handle, and the gas system.

If youve zeroed an optic or scope, it comes with the AR 15 upper receiver, too. Replace the original upper assembly with a different one; push the two pins back into place, and voila! Youve got a different gun.

The House voted 111-42 to finally pass HB 85, legislation from Rep. Jered Taylor that would allow state gun laws to supersede federal regulations. Known as the Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA), it would nullify any federal law that restricts gun ownership, including those related to taxes, tracking, confiscation orders, and prohibitions on possession. Another section would require those who knowingly deprive a Missouri citizen of those rights to be liable for redress for $50,000, including law enforcement departments.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53
