The book When Violence Is The Answer Learning How to Do What It Takes When Your Life Is At Stake by Tim Larkin has been out for several years but just recently crossed my desk. The first sentence of the first page really grabbed me: Violence is rarely the answer, but when it is, its the only answer. |

Despite previously vowing not to enforce Michigan's recently approved "red flag" gun law, Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy was one of the first in the state to use it.
This comes after the sheriff previously called the law unconstitutional.
The "red flag" law allows for a persons guns to be taken away if a court or law enforcement agency thinks they are a threat to themselves or others.
"I still have a lot of concerns about the law," Murphy said by phone on Tuesday. "I dont agree with the law and theres a lot of reasons for that, but at the end of the day it is the law."
Murphy said he has and will use the Emergency Risk Protection Order to confiscate weapons if its one more way to keep people safe.

Mat-Su residents will have access to free or low-cost weapons training under a new borough grant program targeted at compensating for limited local law enforcement.
Officials estimate that the $75,000 grant could pay for private firearms safety training for up to 300 residents over the next year.
The grant was approved in a 5-2 vote by the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly last week as part of the larger approval process for the boroughs $455 million budget for 2025.
The program is designed to give residents the skills to respond to threats when trained law enforcement officers are not nearby, said Assembly member Ron Bernier, who sponsored the legislation.

Democrats recently brought forward an incredibly controversial piece of gun legislation that people should know about. It creates a new binary trigger ban. Despite the fact that Minnesota already prohibits machine guns, similar automatic weapons, and conversion kits, the bill they brought forward expands the definition of trigger activator to include binary triggers, and it now states Minnesotans can no longer own guns with that feature.

Hawaii has changed its tune on butterfly knives and other bladed weapons. Governor Josh Green (D.) signed Act 021 into law on Monday. The measure amends several of the states weapons regulations, including a repeal of its longstanding bans on the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, and transportation of butterfly knives, switchblades, and other non-firearm weapons. It will also allow the open-carry of those weaponsthough concealed carry remains illegal. |
