"It seems Mr. James Madison had quite a different view concerning our rights than that held by the politicians and government officials of today. So much so, that it is hard to reconcile his views, as the main author of the Bill of Rights. With the views commonly held today by our supposed representatives. An alarming discrepancy to say the least. But, of course, that is just my opinion. If you take a look at the following debate, think that you will probably arrive at the same conclusion; ..." ... |

"The California Supreme Court ruled Monday that a person can't be convicted of the crime of possessing a sawed-off rifle unless prosecutors can prove that the defendant knew the weapon was unusually short."
"The court upheld the conviction of Sean King of San Francisco for possessing a short-barreled rifle in 2001."
"Police found the loaded rifle in the drawer of a workbench in the garage of a house shared by King, his mother and his brother."
"The stock of the rifle had been sawed off so that the weapon measured 24 and 1/8 inches. The state's Dangerous Weapons Control Law makes it a crime to possess a rifle less than 26 inches long." ... |

The lock down lasted 45 minutes until the school was secured.
Two other schools were in lock down also, and notes were sent home to parents. |

"It is unfortunate that Ellen Wells, Cathie Whittenburg and others have politicized the efforts to pass LD 1938, An Act to Protect Victims of Domestic Violence, by portraying the National Rifle Association as opposed to the bill."
"Their statement [in the May 3 BDN op-ed, 'Is this any way to run a democracy?] that the NRA 'wins' and women and girls are 'losers' is both false and inaccurate. "Prime Minister Stephen Harper will have a tough time convincing Canadians it's time to completely scrap the country's expensive gun registry program, a new opinion poll suggests."
"The Ipsos Reid survey ... indicates two out of three Canadians believe the government should revamp the gun registry system." ...

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens] |
