Three bills have been introduced to the Oregon State Legislature. Senate Bill 978 mandates weapons be double locked (trigger lock and in a safe) in the home, makes owners responsible for crimes committed if their weapons are stolen, makes it a felony to drive by a school or public building with a firearm, and much more. Senate Bill 501 bans weapons/magazines with a capacity of over 5 rounds, requires a background check for ammo, limits ammo purchase to 20 rounds/month, and more. House Bill 3223 declares a "state of emergency" on "assault weapons" and bans them.

Guns Ownership is a Dangerous Virtue.. and we need to defend it

Virtues are how we do good things. Defending your community, the right to bear arms in public, is how you ensure public safety when the police arent there. The police are rarely there when youre attacked by a criminal. Weve lost much of our right to bear arms. We surrendered it to public safety. The right to bear arms was never meant to be convenient for politicians.

Your gun might be safer if it was under lock and key. It is also less useful that way. You cant use your gun to protect yourself and your family if it takes you minutes to put to use. We forget that. We forget that in your hands, guns save lives. Making firearms safer and less accessible means we save fewer lives.

According to sheriff's officials, the property owner who shot the horse first tried to remove the equine intruder.

Officials said he was using feed to get the horse to come to him so he could try to rope him, when the horse reared up.

Deputies said the stallion kicked the man in the shoulder, knocked him on the ground, and seemed to be getting ready to trample him.

Texas lawmakers have passed legislation lifting the state ban on brass knuckles, kitty keychains and other self defense items.

The Texas Senate gave the bill its final OK on Wednesday morning; it now heads to Gov. Greg Abbott for his signature or veto. Abbott's staff did not immediately return a request for comment Wednesday. Bill author Rep. Joe Moody, D-El Paso, said the bill was "another step" toward getting rid of" antiquated laws regarding weapons."

The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that Miguel Angel Lorenzo Baltazar must get a new trial because instructions to the jury in his 2018 trial indicated that a defendant claiming self-defense is not justified in using deadly force if an alternative course of action was available.

The Iowa Legislature made effective on July 1, 2017, a new stand-your-ground law that removed that language and added that citizens have no duty to retreat before using force. The shooting involving Baltazar was 27 days after that law became effective.

Any mechanical device that goes unused will eventually fall into non-readiness. The same goes for the user. Guns that are bought with the intent of becoming the defensive front line of self-protection during a SHTF event should be used regularly and well maintained.

So many times working gun shows, I work with people looking to buy prepper guns for self-defense, concealed carry, or other uses. When they finally select a gun to purchase, they rarely buy ammunition on the spot. Do they not intend to fire the gun, or even learn to shoot it and practice with it regularly? In many cases that never happens.

First, the auto pistols come in many sizes and weights so there are many choices. Prices are also available to fit everyone's budget. Everything I said about the revolvers is still true but the autos have some advantages. They are:

The auto pistols carry more "on board" ammo. Some of the autos will have as many as 17 rounds of ammo in the magazine, some will have more. Chances of having to reload under stress is almost zero!

The Justice Department on Wednesday urged the Supreme Court to overturn a New York City gun law that regulates where licensed handgun owners can take their firearms.

The justices are poised to hear the Second Amendment case next term, and it will be the first substantive gun rights cases the court has heard since Justice Antonin Scalia's landmark opinion in 2008 holding that the Constitution protects an individual's right to keep a gun at home and a follow up case in 2010.

Banning guns completely, as most gun control advocates want, wont make any of us safer. So how will these additional restrictions that will only be followed by law-abiding gun owners make any of us safer?

Whenever theres a horrible crime involving a gun, existing laws related to permits, registration and the like were (by definition) broken. Slapping more restrictions on people who already follow the existing restrictions will do nothing to make us safer.

SB 392 would create a new lifetime carry permit issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to state residents. The process for a lifetime permit under SB 392 is simple and straightforward. After requesting a background check from their local sheriff, an individual can apply to any ALEA office where drivers licenses are issued, pay a one-time fee of $150, and after submitting a completed application and favorable background report, have a permit for life.

Katie Pavlich said Sen. Kamala Harris proposed executive action on gun control would be an attack on Second Amendment rights.

Harris, D-Calif, is expected to pledge at a campaign event in New Hampshire Wednesday that if shes elected president, she would sign an executive order banning the importation of AR-15-style assault weapons, Politico reported.

"If by my 100th day in office when elected president of the United States, the United States Congress fails to put a bill on my desk to sign with all of the good ideas or any of the good ideas that I'm prepared to take executive action because that's what's needed," Harris said on CNN Sunday.

"Fairly basic procedure. We are doing this to make sure that we are in compliance with the new state laws with regards to both the House bill and the Senate bill," Darrell Shoemaker says, communications coordinator for the City of Rapid City.

House Bill 1056 says municipalities cannot restrict the possession of firearms.

Senate Bill 47 makes it legal to carry a concealed pistol without a permit in South Dakota.

The city's communications coordinator says the changes will create consistency between city and state laws.

In an amicus brief filed today at the Nations highest court, Louisiana Attorney General Landry and his 24-state coalition are asking the United States Supreme Court to reject New York Citys extreme gun restrictions.

The legal filing in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc., et al. v. City of New York, New York, et al. challenges the constitutionality of New York Citys pricey permit prohibiting the removal any firearm from the home with two exceptions - practicing at a range in the city or hunting in the state with authorization from the citys police department.

The Supreme Court Finally Takes Up a Second Amendment Case

New York City has a law banning the transportation of licensed handguns out of the city, which isnt the minor issue it may seem at first glance. When the Supreme Court agreed to take it up in late January, it broke a decade-long silence on the Second Amendmentno cases on the scope of the right since District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) declared an individual right to keep and bear arms. That means this odd little case about a dumb city law may set the standard for how all Second Amendment cases are handled going forward, after the lower courts have spent the last decade trying to restrict the right as much as possible.

Presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., outlined more of her plans to combat gun violence during a campaign event in Nashua, N.H., on Wednesday.

Reiterating her past promise on taking executive action on guns if Congress fails to pass more gun control bills within 100 days, Harris said because "assault weapons are designed to kill a lot of people in a very short period of time," she will issue an executive order to ban the importation of military-style rifles.

The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) today announced its support for a lawsuit challenging Illinoiss Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) Act. The lawsuit was brought by Guns Save Life, an organization dedicated to defending the Second Amendment rights of Illinois residents.

The Illinois FOID Act infringes on law-abiding citizens fundamental right to self-protection, said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA-ILA.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53
