"Zero tolerance is a political response, not an educationally sound solution," said IU professor Russell Skiba, director of the Safe and Responsive Schools Project and author of the report. "It sounds impressive to say that we're taking a tough stand against misbehavior, but the data say it simply hasn't been effective in improving student behavior or ensuring school safety."

"A contorted, 27-word sentence, penned more than two centuries ago, lingers and swirls like gun smoke; its meaning today debated more than ever. ... Now, a 1999 ruling out of Texas has made the Second Amendment a live ball, one that could be bouncing its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. In the end, scholars say, gun enthusiasts could score an unprecedented legal coup, securing individual rights that courts have long been reluctant to grant them."
~~ Contorted? Not to this reader. |

Gov. Glendening has vetoed a bill which would have mandated gun-safety training in schools.
The bill passed with broad, strong support from both the NRA and anti-gun groups.
He says the bill raises "the specter of the National Rifle Association taking busloads of 13-year-old boys and girls off to a firing range for a day of shooting."
This is a problem, how? |

"How honest is the typical police officer when tempted? PrimeTime's bait: a lost wallet full of money, and hidden cameras to capture what happens next. ... Of the 20 Los Angeles police officers who were given wallets and purses, every single one turned in the wallet and the money. Not a penny was missing from the wallets, which were given to officers of all races, throughout the city."
BUT: "Ross' investigative team copied a technique many police departments around the country routinely use to test the honesty and integrity of their officers."
~~This certainly wasn't a double-blind scientific study. They don't even bother to mention what happened to the 20 wallets they gave to NYC officers. |

"The FBI is a menace to the life, liberty and property of decent people."
Strictly speaking, the fiasco with the McVeigh trial evidence wasn't the worst of it. The discovery of thousands of pages of documents which should have been surrendered to the defense, but never were, may embarrass the FBI, but it won't destroy lives. ~~~~ The Imperial Federal Government is here to help us. |

Tell the President and Congress what you think. Your vote on this issue will be sent to key decision-makers in Washington.
Choices:
YES- Instead of needlessly creating new regulations, the government should focus on enforcing existing laws.
NO- Enforcement alone won't make our communities safe. Too many guns could still get into the wrong hands. |

Former State Rep. Dave Jones blames the NRA for the defeat of his bills that would have: kept guns out of churches and schools, made gun owners liable for negligent storage, and require background checks at gun shows.
~~Is it possible that is the reason he is a former state representative? |

"Not that we don't have enough to deal in trying to keep America America but out of the anus of the Republic of Kalifornia comes yet another diarrhetic burst. This dripping, oozing, brown waste is called Congressional Representative Waxman. I need you, my readership, to rally, like we have so many times before, to help me wipe up this brown discharge before it spreads any further."--Neal Seaman |
