Quote:

One of the blogs of merit I discovered belongs to a young and bright Romanian politician named Bogdan Duca and it is called The New Conservatism. I asked this gentlemen a very short question on the comments section of his blog which sounded like this:

"What is your position in regards to the right of the regular citizens to own firearms?"

Tenth Amendment Showdown: La Boetie vs. Machiavelli

So la Botie describes what would happen if we simply stop supplying the instruments of our own oppression to the oppressive government. Namely, if we ended the Federal Reserve, ended the IRS, and for good measure repealed the Sixteenth Amendment. Then the great Colossus would tumble and shatter. All already assume none of those things are achievable at the federal level. And therein lies the essence of the demarcation between the otherwise unified anti-statists: some feel it can be achieved peaceably, while others are resigned to or at least expect violence. After all, said, JFK: "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

People with handgun carry permits could bring their weapons into all state and local parks in Tennessee, under a bill the Senate passed on Monday.

The chamber also approved a bill to allow people with carry permits to transport ammunition alongside rifles or shotguns in the passenger compartment of their vehicles.

The parks measure sponsored by Republican Senate Judiciary Chairwoman Mae Beavers of Mt. Juliet passed on a 24-8 vote.

"The point of this bill is to give law-abiding and responsible permit holders a fighting chance when confronted by a rapist or a murderer while within a local or state park," Beavers said.

"Demonstrations at three Florida prisons where more than 40 children were shocked with stun guns have led to the dismissal of three employees and the resignation of two others.... The incidents took place on April 23, national `Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.' As part of demonstrations at two prisons, children held hands in a circle, and one was shocked with the stun gun, passing the shock around the circle. At another prison, children were shocked individually."

All of the youngsters involved in the exercise (some of whom were as young as 5 years of age) were children of prison employees. None was "seriously" hurt by the stun guns, which differ from Tasers in that they are pressed directly against the skin of the victim and affect a smaller area of the body.

A towing company owner must stand trial for fatally shooting a man who was trying to reclaim his wife's towed car, a judge ruled today.

Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Robert A. Foster said the state's Stand Your Ground law does not give Donald Montanez immunity from prosecution.

"It is inherently dangerous to pull a firearm and is best left to well trained individuals who have a duty to serve and protect," Foster said. "Citizens carrying firearms, whether licensed to do so or not, proceed at their own risk subject to the laws of the state of Florida, which are very clear.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution, as part of the Bill of Rights, defines the "unalienable right" to bear arms and it must not be diminished in ways that we expect the present rulers to attempt. The Second Amendment was the second most important provision of freedom enumerated by the founders, some of whom thought it should be first. The founders knew freedom required an armed militia, above and beyond an army. Tyrants must know there is a free and armed citizenry.

When Kirby Warner, a trusty Ruger pistol strapped to his hip, sat around and shot the breeze with his fellow gun owners here at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting this weekend, they weren't just chatting calibers and cartridges.

Nor did they stop at other tried and trusted fare, such as President Obama and gun control. This year, taxes, bailouts, and the general direction of the country was all on the docket. He remembers reading a sign at one of the national tea parties: "If First Amendment fails, see Second Amendment."

"I like that," he chuckles.

"This is armed conservatism, backing political beliefs with guns, and I think that's the key of its emotional appeal," says Joan Burbick...

As more people in Florida seek concealed weapons permits, Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson wants Gov. Charlie Crist to veto a $6-million raid on a fund that pays for the program.

Bronson's request presents a timely opportunity for Crist to score political points with gun owners just as he's embarking on a race for the U.S. Senate.

In a letter to Crist, Bronson cited "unprecedented growth" in applications for gun permits that has created a "tremendous backlog" of cases to be processed. All applicants are subject to criminal background checks.

Only because of unconstitutional, unenforceable prohibitions, of course. Those who distribute Budweiser and Miller Lite dont have to wield assault rifles, because their trade was re-legalized in 1933. Re-legalizing the trades in all firearms and in all plant extracts would have the same violence-reducing impact, though thats a topic for another day.

What the Washington weasels actually favor and are willing to throw away millions in potential new government revenue to achieve is a government MONOPOLY on armed might. They hate the idea of common citizens having access to effective firearms even spent military brass and 60-year-old collector pistols that are far too valuable ever to be re-sold to street gangs or stickup artists.

Business has been brisk since the election.
Sublette County Sheriff Deputy Gene Brysons night job as a licensed gun dealer keeps him busy but since last Novembers election, sales have picked up. He gets calls almost every night from people looking for guns and ammunition.
And their searches are getting harder.
You cant hardly find .22 shells, Bryson said.
Even though he stocked up anticipating the increase in sales, Bryson said, When its gone, I dont know what Im going to do.
Bryson has 40,000 rounds of .223 on backorder.

Witnesses told police that 26-year-old Boanegres Najera broke into a friend's home in the 9600 block of Timber Laurel after he was kicked out of a bar for causing a disturbance. Najera allegedly stole a gun from the home.

Later in the evening, the owner of the gun confronted Najera in the 5200 block of Northwest Trails.

The men struggled over the weapon before a third man, the gun owner's brother, shot the suspect about 10:45 p.m., police said. Najera died at the scene, while the shooter fled.

Police said the shooter likely would not face charges because he was defending his brother.

Keni Garcia told police he intended to use the 30,000 bullets they found in his car and home for target practice.

That is hard to believe, the prosecutor at Garcia's arraignment said, because if he were to fire a gun for eight hours a day, it would take weeks for him to use all of it. ...

Attorney Socrates de la Cruz of Lawrence, who represented Garcia, 32, of 12 Freeman St., at his arraignment in Haverhill District Court, said he will appeal the high bail in Superior Court. ...

"Where is the crime?" de la Cruz asked. The lawyer said Garcia had lived in New Hampshire for three years before recently moving to Haverhill.

Every May 15, "thousands of police drive their squad cars across the country to participate in around-the-clock conferences and parties," notes the Washington Times. And every year, residents, merchants, and others who make an honest living (yes, there are people of that description, even in Mordor-on-the-Potomac) have to deal with throngs of intoxicated, self-enraptured off-duty police officers -- people accustomed to regarding themselves as a special caste, apart from and superior to the common run of humanity.

"For years, local residents have whispered to one another to stay off the roads at night during National Police Week because of all the police cars swerving wildly after the bars close," notes the Times. "The dangerous activity is not limited to automobiles. Drinking while carrying sidearms is an annual part of the celebrations. A few years back, one inebriated officer tripped out of a bar in Chinatown and unloaded his pistol on the bell tower of nearby St. Mary, Mother of God Catholic Church."

A 26-year-old Phoenix man accidentally killed himself early Sunday while explaining gun safety to two Sierra Vista residents.
Samuel Benally Jr. was at an apartment on West Tacoma Street when he said guns should be kept unloaded because people could point them at their heads, said Sierra Vista police Sgt. Brett Mitchell.
Benally then demonstrated by putting his own 9mm Ruger, which he believed to be unloaded, to his head and firing it, Mitchell said.
Benally was flown to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Mitchell said.
An investigation is ongoing, but police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, Mitchell said.

FOX News has learned that Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee have crafted a plan to partially block Republicans demands that the Department of Homeland Security explain why it compiled a study that cast "right-wing groups" as a potential terrorist threat.

The threat assessment was titled "Right-wing Extremism Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment."

The study ignited a firestorm on Capitol Hill because the report suggested that "right-wing" groups could pose a threat to U.S. security. "Right-wingers" were defined as people who opposed abortion rights, were military veterans or backed the Second Amendment.

Both the state House and Senate have approved a measure that would ban children under 16 years old from handling or shooting machine guns.

Our first thought on this is, why was there no such law on the books previously? In fact, Connecticut law allows minors to handle other guns when supervised. Supporters of the bill said it makes sense to single out machine guns because their recoil could be too powerful for a child to handle.

The City is being sued by gun owners and gun-advocacy groups because of a local law that says firearms have to be locked up or kept disabled.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court Friday afternoon, challenges a local restriction that forces handgun owners to either store their guns in a locked container or disable them with trigger locks. Mayor Gavin Newsom signed the law into effect in August 2007.

National Rifle Association attorney Chuck Michel, who filed the case, said the locking restriction interferes with citizens rights to immediately defend their families.

Plaintiffs include a group of San Francisco gun owners, retired police officers and the NRA.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside...Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them... Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894).
