While the defeat of the controversial SJR 39 stole much of the attention at Capitol last week, several other important measures made significant headway in the General Assembly, including a proposal to allow Missourians to carry concealed guns without a permit. The House passed the concealed carry bill and sent it to the Senate. The Senate, meanwhile, passed a bill sponsored by Sen. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, that would reform the state's criminal penalties for juveniles convicted of first-degree murder. |

Most hunters who went in search of pronghorn in North Dakota last year found success. The state Game and Fish Department says success during the fall pronghorn hunt was 81 percent. Pronghorn have been slowly rebounding after being decimated by three straight severe winters starting in 2008. Last year's season was only the second in North Dakota since 2009. |

The giant jail door clanks open slowly. Im waiting in a small, plain visitor room for a young woman named Erin Caffey. She is led in by a heavily armed guard, which seems almost laughably unnecessary given that shes only 4ft 11in. Erin, now 24, has been detained at a high-security prison in Gatesville, Texas, for eight years. Shes blonde, blue-eyed, pretty, softly spoken and she has the voice of an angel. My first impression is that she seems gentle, sweet and unthreatening, as befits someone from a loving, stable home, someone who had never been in trouble, and who sang in the church choir every Sunday with her parents and two brothers.
COMMENT: "A heavily armed jail guard"? I doubt it. Just as I doubt everything else Piers says. |

The sanctuary of the Keystone Fellowship Church used to be a safe place for church members to worship and fellowship with others. That changed abruptly Sunday when a member opened fire during service. An argument began after Mark Storms, 46, told Robert Braxton III, 27, he was sitting in seats reserved for two other church members, according to a statement made by District Attorney Kevin Steele, The New York Daily News reported. After a church member tapped Braxton on the shoulder to let him know he was in someone elses seat, Braxton yelled dont (expletive) touch me an affidavit obtained by NBC Philadelphia said. |

I was 11 years old when Jonathan Cott first brought a gun to school. It was bright red, or maybe dark blue colours tend to fade first in the memory and the paint was chipped at the corners. Cotty, as we called him, was always in deluxe kinds of trouble. Once, while we sat at our desks awaiting the arrival of a long-suffering English teacher, Cotty balanced a large cardboard box on the frame of the classroom door. When the teacher entered, the box fell over his head, trapping his arms in such a way that it took a good 15 seconds for the man to unsheathe himself by bobbing his head back and forth, fellatially. |

Several pieces of hotly contested legislation continue to wait on the desk of Gov. Nathan Deal, as Tuesdays deadline looms for him to sign, veto or opt to not take action on the measures. Despite statewide opposition from university administrators and their police chiefs, its not certain how Deal will act on a bill allowing concealed handguns on college campuses. The bill would still bar guns from student housing, which includes fraternity and sorority houses, athletic facilities and disciplinary hearings. |

For the second time in three years, the busiest public shooting range on Pennsylvania game lands will be closed for several months. The rifle range on State Game Lands 203 near Wexford will close May 16 for a major renovation and reconstruction project. It is expected to reopen in September. A separate handgun-only range on the same property will not be affected. No rifle shooting will be permitted in handgun lanes. |

Lightning Jack has his sights set on becoming the fastest shooter in the world. Jacob Finlayson, 22, of Gore, aka Lightning Jack, is returning to the End of Trail competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in June. The last time he was there in 2014 he was ranked the eighth-deadliest cowboy in the world. Because he didn't return in 2015 he lost his rank, but this year he was aiming for the top spot, Finlayson said. "The best thing for me to do is aim for number one." |

Today kicks off this three-day event. For many of the vendors here, this is how they make their living, traveling the gun show circuit. This is a great place for families to learn about gun laws and safety, but what would happen, if say, President Obama cracked down on gun control? There may be a few people who are looking to just sell their own personal guns. Dennis Mack, co-chairman of the Great Falls Gun and Antique show, says that though there aren't any changes this time around, they are prepared for any changes that may come his way.

The usual gaggle of anti-gun suspects has come out of the woodwork to attack the gun lobby for its opposition to any action on behalf of Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. Coupled with their typical protestations that their attacks on Second Amendment advocates are not attacks on the Second Amendment itself, their words are laden with half-truths and selectively culled facts. |

His family is renowned for its premier line of shotguns treasured by law enforcement, hunters and the military. While walking through 5.11 Tacticals store, Tom Davin stopped, placed a finger on his pocket and noted, Whats great for a rifle magazine is also great for a cellphone. As many in the digital age can attest, loose or small pockets can easily lead to phone catastrophes. But while a civilians cracked screen can lead to financial headaches, bullets tumbling from a poorly pocketed magazine clip during an arrest could have more severe consequences. |
