"If you go the the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence's website today, you will see a blue hole where their Twitter feed used to be. The reason is that their Twitter account has been suspended due to a violation of the terms of service. In other words, by using Twitter to 'out' bloggers and, more importantly, reveal their personal information including home addresses, Ladd Everitt and CSGV broke the rules and are now paying for it." ...

"The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) raised a few eyebrows Monday, when Assistant Surgeon General Ali Khan posted, on CDC's official Public Health Matters blog, 'Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse' (expect slow/difficult loading of the web page, which is apparently drawing vastly heavier web traffic than CDC is accustomed to dealing with). Here's what CDC recommends having on hand when the flesh-eating dead arise:" ...

Gear Review: Cree Tactical LED Flashlight

"Remember back when Mag-lite was the last word in aircraft-grade aluminum illumination? Those old incandescent Mag-Lites werent any brighter than ordinary flashlights, but their indestructible machined-aluminum bodies made them the choice of police, private security, Elvis and burglars. They were 'tacticool' before people had a chance to learn to hate that word. The longer D-cell Mag-lites resembled aluminum billy clubs; they delivered a more devastating blow than any Monadnock PR-24 police baton ever could. Despite their size and weight, however, they still werent all that bright." ...

Muzzling Doctors Who Ask Questions about Gun Safety

"Imagine that your 16-year-old daughter has been bullied mercilessly in school, but hasnt talked to you about it, or spoken about her suicidal impulses. One day, she is brought by ambulance to your local hospital emergency room, having made superficial cuts on her arms while in school. The emergency room physician tries to call you at work, but your cell phone isnt picking up. The doctor begins her evaluation of your daughter, including an assessment of all relevant risk factors for suicide. Now imagine that the doctor believes she is forbidden by law from asking your daughter whether there are guns in your home despite the fact that firearms in the home markedly increase the risk of gun-related suicide.1" ...
-----

Submitter's Note: What's the phrase I'm looking for . . . Oh yeah: Liar! Liar, Liar, L I I A A R R!. The law does nothing to prevent doctors from addressing gun safety, it only prevents them from asking patients if they have guns, and was prompted by a physician who refused to continue seeing a patient who would not answer a question about guns in his home.

Chicago's Daley a hypocrite to the bitter end

"Having retied from office on Wednesday, May 18, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley remains a monumental hypocrite to the bitter end and his request for publicly-financed armed bodyguards proves it, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said recently."

"As Daley prepared to leave office, a Washington Times editorial bared the anti-gun Democrat's hypocrisy. For years, Daley has had armed bodyguards protecting him at the same time he has worked fanatically to deprive his Chicago constituents and every other citizen in Illinois the same level of security, by pushing every crazy anti-gun scheme he or his colleagues could dream up. Now he wants that same privilege to carry into retirement." ...

"CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight has been such a parade of celebrity interviews its almost made Larry King Live look like a hard-news show. But on Wednesday night, Morgan interviewed Ted Nugent and pounded him repeatedly and personally, especially insulting him as a 'draft dodger.' He also suggested he was homophobic and not compassionate toward the poor."

"Morgan naturally picked a big fight on the Second Amendment, which he declared 'the reality is you end up with what happened to Gabby Giffords in Tucson.' Morgan insisted to Nugent, 'Eighty people a day die in America from gunshots.' Nugent replied, 'Kiss my ass...You are playing the idiots advocate.' ..." ...

... "I realize that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to own a weapon, and I agree with that. However I feel that with gun ownership comes certain responsibilities. I also believe that there should be some reasonable limits in what type of guns people can own."

"Let's face it, a gun, at its core, is built to kill something. By its very nature it is a danger to others. To limit this danger people who want to own and carry a firearm should be required to take training on that weapon and how to safely us it. We require training before you can drive a car, why is training before you can carry a gun so different?" ...

"Say Uncle says 'just say no' to Walgreens for saying 'say what?' to pharmacist Jeremy Hoven. The drug store chain fired Mr. Hoven after he defended himself during an armed robbery. ... Its easy to depict Mr. Hoven as a gun rights hero. According to heraldpalladium.com, he warned Walgreens about the security threat, jumped all through the necessary hoops to get a concealed carry permit and only used his weapon in self-defense. More specifically, Hoven said 'he knows of no specific Walgreens policy barring employees from carrying lawfully concealed weapons at work.' Which doesnt mean there isn't one. And there's Hoven's first mistake: not knowing whether or not he was allowed to carry at work. Here are three more . . ." ...

... "Once one wades past all of the hysteria, it becomes apparent that the single element of the WyWatch inquiry which generated so much resentment was its demand for accountability. For years, public officials in the Cowboy State have remained relatively unaccountable to the citizenry, with the sole exception being a necessity to steer clear of any frontal attacks on the Second Amendment. But apart from that, a wholly self-serving and autocratic Republican Party has coalesced over the years, and has been relatively free to drift inexorably left, delving ever deeper into bureaucratic bloat and governing excess, all under the rubric of Wyoming being Americas 'most Republican' (and presumably most 'conservative') state." ...

"The Oregon Supreme Court today ruled unanimously that people who use medical marijuana cannot be denied concealed weapons permits, noting that there is nothing in the 1968 federal gun control act that specifically preempts a states concealed carry licensing statute."

"However, marijuana advocates should not get too excited about this, because the ruling does not clear the way for pot users to buy or possess firearms. ..." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Or does it? The portion of the Federal Gun Control Act cited by the court, 922(g)(3), prohibits possession by anyone "who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance ...;". But someone with a prescription for medication is arguably not "an unlawful user", and the legal definition of addiction specifically exempts "medically warranted purposes."
