Sen Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) recently came out with a proposal to "end gun violence." In her plan, she called for the typical points ant-gunners love to cling to. She wants to establish universal background checks; create a federal law against trafficking guns; reestablish an assault weapons ban; ban bump stocks (hello, that's already been done) and "large-capacity" magazines.

After reading an article that praised the efforts of radical anti-gun activist Shannon Watts and her attempt to leverage the irrational gun-fear of Levis's executives, it was clear that Watts's focus is severely misguided. To the anti-gun crowd, violating the rights of their fellow citizens is "success," regardless of the number of people left unarmed and helpless in the wake of their feel-good crusade. |

As we reflect on National Police Week, which ended Saturday, lets provide our law enforcement across the country every tool possible to prevent senseless acts of gun violence from harming or claiming the lives of innocent people, including our law enforcement officers. Children are frequently asked the question, What do you want to be when you grow up? The answer for Timothy Jake Laird from Noblesville was always the same. He dreamed of becoming a police officer.

For decades, senseless gun violence has scarred our country physically, emotionally, and financially. The failure of our elected officials to create change through policymaking has allowed gun violence to terrorize our communities, from schools to places of worship to workplaces. Indeed, we were again reminded this month of just how little progress our leaders have made on gun control. Just weeks after the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting, two people entered another school in Colorado and fatally shot one student and severely injured eight others.

A reader submitted a question about heavier bullets in reloads possibly causing rifle groups to widen.
Q: When Im not on the firing line, the rest of my spare time is spent at the reloading bench and Ive run across an odd anomaly I hope you can help me with. When I go to heavier match-grade bullets with a slightly improved ballistic coefficient, my rifles groups seem to widen. Any idea why?

Preseason scouting is paramount to early season success, but in heavily hunted areas, all that hard effort soon goes by the wayside. Despite weeks of preparation, turkey hunters are forced to go in cold in hopes their acumen will carry the day. Such was the case for me as Maines spring season entered its second week. Id scouted 17 flocks before the season opener, learned their routines and had high hopes. By the end of the first week, most of those birds had been tagged, processed and quite possibly consumed. It was now a matter of picking up scraps fallen from the turkey table, often backwoods birds that the more casual roadside scouting missions never reveal.

The popularity of AR-style firearms in centerfire pistol calibers has greatly increased in the past few years, thanks to a variety of reasons. As 9mm ammunition is less-expensive than centerfire rifle rounds and also can be shot with less recoil, shooters have taken to AR-style pistol-caliber carbines for competition, self-defense and range use. This new boom led to many new accessories designed to allow AR owners to make use of different magazines to feed these popular platforms. |

In the early 1990s, a handful of calibers emerged to challenge the nine-millimeter as the dominant semi-automatic handgun round. One of these, the .357 Sig, is the caliber of choice for the Glock 31 pistol. The Glock 31 is the companys offering for those into high velocity or long distance handgun shooting. The G31 also comes with a large magazine capacity, making it an excellent self-defense or duty sidearm. |

As NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox reported in March, the U.S. Supreme Court has taken up a challenge by an NRA state affiliate to a New York City gun control scheme that effectively prohibits lawfully licensed handgun owners from leaving the city with their own firearms. The plaintiffs in the case have raised a number of objections to the regime, the foremost of which is that it violates the Second Amendment. The case is New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. New York City. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788. |
