With Barrett on board, the court has already used emergency appeals from churches fighting pandemic restrictions to significantly strengthen religious rights. Now liberals have reason to worry that the newest cases, which include an attack on the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion rights ruling and a call for a constitutional right to carry a gun in public, signal that the courts conservatives are ready to begin a legal transformation. |

About 40 million US citizens take joy in recreational shooting every year. Most of these do it because its pure fun firing at targets and hitting them. Others do it to sharpen their shooting skills for hunting and self-defense.
Others engage in recreational shooting to reap health benefits such as increasing mental and physical discipline, boosting arm strength and ability to focus, exercising eye capabilities, and elevating personal responsibility. |

Take a look at any self-defense forum and youll see people talking down to anyone who carries less than their favorite caliber. If you carry less than 58 rounds, youre a fool. What people often forget in this community, as well as most of the world, is that not everyones life looks the way yours does. Different people have different needs. This is exactly why we have so many options when it comes to protecting ourselves with a firearm. For a lot of people, two rounds doesnt sound like enough. However, Bond Arms doesnt care what those people think. They continue to produce double barrel, two-shot pistols, and loyal customers who see merit in the guns keep buying them! |

The board that oversees Montanas university system voted unanimously Wednesday to file a lawsuit against the state seeking a ruling over whether the state Legislature or the Board of Regents has the constitutional authority to regulate the possession of guns on campuses.
The vote directed the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education to file a legal challenge to House Bill 102, which, in part, would allow students and staff who meet safety certifications to carry concealed firearms without a permit on campuses starting June 1. |

On May 11, Charlotte County commissioners declared Charlotte County a Second Amendment sanctuary that purports to hinder or prevent the enforcement of certain gun safety laws. Similar resolutions have passed in other counties in Florida and around the country.
Proponents of these resolutions pronounce any gun-control legislation as unconstitutional, whether it requires background checks or a waiting period, bans bump-stock devices that allow for rapid fire, or outlaws assault-style rifles. |

He also took aim at challenges to the Second Amendment, accusing lower courts and his own colleagues of thumbing their noses at the right to bear arms, calling it a "disfavored right."
Now Thomas is 72 years old with a head of gray hair and he is awaiting a new season on a 6-3 conservative majority court. The justices have agreed to hear a case next term that critics -- and some supporters -- say is meant to gut Roe. They will also hear a Second Amendment case that could expand gun rights. And Thomas, the longest-serving member of the court, will likely find himself in the majority. |

On Monday, May 17, the Minnesota Legislature adjourned from their 2021 Regular Session. This session, your NRA-ILA constantly monitored over 50 pro-and anti-gun measures. Thanks to contact from NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters, we were able to prevent multiple anti-gun measures from being passed this session, including:
HF 694 /SF 894 would have implemented universal background checks in Minnesota on all firearms. HF 2498 /SF 2048 would have stopped the current legal practice of carrying concealed in the Capitol. HF 1634 /SF 1431 would have implemented a so-called Red Flag law allowing emergency seizure of firearms from individuals based upon hearsay and uncorroborated evidence without due process. |

House Bill 2840 allows law-abiding citizens to store their loaded firearms in their locked personal vehicles while parked on school grounds. This ensures that parents are able to pick-up and drop-off students without first having to stop and unload their firearms before driving onto school grounds, or deviating from their route to park off-campus. So-called gun-free zones are arbitrary boundaries that only disarm law-abiding citizens and leave them defenseless while doing nothing to deter criminals. |

Tens of thousands of Asian Americans, motivated by self-defense, bought their first guns over the past year, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, an industry trade association. A survey by the organization, which tracks background checks and gun purchases through retailers, estimated a 43% jump in sales to Asians nationwide in the first half of 2020. (Few surveys track Asian American gun ownership; on forms and in databases they are often relegated to an other category.) Recently, High Country News contacted 20 gun shops in the West to hear their perspective on this trend. Of those that replied, nine confirmed that theyd seen an uptick in sales to customers of East and Southeast Asian descent. |

The Supreme Courts ruling in Caniglia v. Strom could be a boon to Second Amendment supporters concerned about so-called red flag laws. In a unanimous ruling centered on the Fourth Amendments protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, the Supreme Court has now offered the chance to, at the very least, force reforms in those laws, if not outright block them.
This brief opinion authored by Associate Justice Clarence Thomas it runs a grand total of four pages laid the smackdown on the First Circuit. The concurring opinions are also noteworthy, as they seem to set some boundaries on what reasonable searches in the home are. |

HBs 85 & 310 will protect the Second Amendment rights of Missourians against an overreaching federal government. The Second Amendment Preservation Act is meant to protect law-abiding gun owners from potential gun control legislation that could be passed in Washington, D.C. It states that laws and other actions that prohibit the manufacture, ownership, and use of firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition within Missouri exceed the powers granted to the federal government. It also declares that all federal laws, acts, and orders that infringe on Missourians second amendment rights are invalid in the state. |
