The victim of a harrowing gunpoint robbery in Mississippi on Saturday grabbed a gun out of his truck and opened fire, killing one robber and sending the other fleeing.
Jackson Police said the victim turned the tables on a pair of robbers after he was robbed of his wallet and forced to drive to an ATM to get money.
Police found the body of robbery suspect Edwin Robinson, 23, on Pinewood Drive, a residential street in northeast Jackson. They said the shooting appeared justified.
The station said the victim of the stick-up was a doctor. He was not hurt.
Police told the station the doctor was in the driveway of his home when Robinson and another man surprised him. They had guns and announced a robbery.

Henry Deringer produced his first pistol in 1830 and his initial offerings were percussion fired. Subsequent models fired fixed ammunition and Deringers influence over the genre was sufficient to transform his name into an eponym forever tied to these small pocket pistols.
Derringers were produced by a variety of manufacturers to include Colt, Ethan Allen and Remington. While Colt was the most prolific producer, it is the classic 1870s era Remington that defined the iconic lines of the derringers. |

The New York City Police Department did not violate the constitutional rights of a traveling firearms dealer by denying his application to carry a concealed firearm, a Manhattan judge has ruled.
According to state Supreme Court Justice Michael Stallman's May 14 decision in Matter of Knight v. Bratton, 101556/14, plaintiff Cavalier Knight requested a license to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense and to protect his wares from theft.
Knight is a sales associate with the California-based Armored Mobility Inc. and sells law-enforcement related equipment, products that Knight argues are in demand by criminals and terrorists, thus creating danger for him while he is traveling and conducting business.

The biggest difference between the National Guard and the Missouri Militia is that the militia cannot be federalized. All National Guard units can be federalized. And the militia gets no state or federal funding. All of its members are volunteers and must supply all of their own equipment.
When many people hear the term militia they automatically think of radical anti-government groups trying to overthrow law enforcement. That is not what the Texas County Militia, which is part of the Missouri Militia, is all about.
All of our members are pro Constitution, said Brad North, Commander of Bravo Company 4th Batallion 8th Brigade. They take an oath to uphold the Missouri Constitution and the Constitution of the United States.

Another was my amendment to allow the Army to transfer its surplus vintage firearms to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) which has its southern headquarters in Anniston and will soon have the CMP park open in June in Talladega County.
If youre a gun owner like I am, you may be familiar with the M1911A1. This iconic pistol used to serve as the standard U.S. Armed Forces sidearm, until it was replaced by the Berretta 9mm pistol. Although a few thousand of these pistols have been sold to foreign countries for a small fee, the remainder are being held in storage. That costs the taxpayer about $200,000 a year. |

The latest fight over gun control in Washington, DC, looks like one for New York to watch. Its on the question of whether the District of Columbia can require residents applying for pistol permits to show good reason.
Short work was made of the question this week by US District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. He struck down DCs requirement that gun-permit applicants provide a good reason to own a firearm. And he set an aggressive schedule to speedily resolve the granting of a permit to plaintiffs.
Its not yet clear whether DC and its police chief, Cathy Lanier, are going to appeal the district court ruling. It is clear, though, that the case will echo in New York and other cities that require a showing of need to carry a pistol. |

Its certainly no secret that in response to the unprecedented demand for concealed carry handguns here in the States, foreign and domestic manufacturers have saturated the market with a deluge of downsized pistols and revolvers.
While perusing Alien Gear Holsters new concealed carry website, DefendandCarry.com, I watched an interesting video that featured the top 10 concealed carry guns by popularity. This listing was based on sales of their holsters for the opening months of 2015. The author simply organized the list based on the models percentage of total sales. |

Comp-Tac Victory Gear has just launched a new retention holster, the Flatline Thumb Break. The Flatline mixes old with new using molded Kydex for the holster body and a riveted leather strap to provide level two retention.
The Flatline Thumb Break isnt the first of its kind but Kydex holsters that provide this type of retention are pretty uncommon. On top of that the Flatline Thumb Break is modular and can be rigged for inside- or outside-the-waisband wear. The loops are adjustable for cant and can be tweaked to fit the individual user. |

People in the nation's capital no longer have to show a good reason to get a permit to carry concealed handguns outside their homes and businesses.
The District of Columbia's police chief said Tuesday that she's dropping this requirement, a centerpiece of the city's handgun-control legislation, after a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against it.
This is round two for the city and U.S. District Judge Frederick Scullin Jr., who also found the city's ban on carrying handguns outside the home unconstitutional last year (NYLJ, July 30, 2014). Scullin, who normally sits in the Northern District of New York, now has stopped the city from enforcing the key provision of a law the D.C. Council adopted in response. |

City Council members and the mayor of the District of Columbia may appeal a federal court order Monday that called the districts gun permitting process unconstitutional.
A U.S. district judge placed a hold on the D.C. law that requires residents to have an explicit reason why they need to carry a gun and show an immediate threat to their safety. The judge said the law violates the Second Amendment.
Councilman Kenyan McDuffie said he was disappointed in the courts decision to block the law, and he believes the citys handgun law is constitutional. |

The deadly Sunday biker battle at a Waco, Texas breastaurant has convinced one University of Texas at Austin professor that Americans arent cut out for the Second Amendments right to bear arms.
John Traphagan, a professor of religious studies and anthropology at UTA, wrote in an op-ed for The Dallas Morning News that the most overlooked security threat to this country is its own heavily armed population and that Americas culture does not lend itself well to allowing the proliferation of guns.
Americans do not seem to be able to handle gun ownership in a way that permits maintenance of a civil society, Traphagan stated. |

The prospect of students publicly advocating for Second Amendment rights at Blinn College so worried one administrator that she told student activists not to expect to get permission to do it, according to a new lawsuit.
That fear of libertarian advocacy also allegedly drove a professor to make vague threats against a student activist.
The public college in Texas is the latest target of the Stand Up For Speech project by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), which has taken particular aim at college speech codes and free speech zones that limit expressive activity to small regions of campuses. |

A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Monday that the government cant prevent a convicted felon who is barred from possessing firearms from trying to sell his guns after they are confiscated by authorities.
The justices sided with Tony Henderson, a former U.S. Border Patrol agent who agreed to turn over his collection of 19 firearms to the FBI as a condition of release after he was arrested and charged with distributing marijuana.

But the Washington Times piece about the apparent memo from former Carter press aide Jody Powell could be raising more eyebrows in the Second Amendment battlefield. Thats because of what amounts to an admission that gun control laws dont work to reduce crime. The newspaper cited "documents from the Clinton Presidential Library" as its source.
As much as I hate to say it, Powell reportedly wrote in his memo, the NRA is effective primarily because it is largely right when it claims that most gun control laws inconvenience and threaten the law-abiding while having little or no impact on violent crime or criminals. |
