New York State Senator Jos M. Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) and New York State Assemblymember Steve Englebright (D-E. Setauket) sent a letter last week, to which 30 legislators signed on, to United States Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, to express disappointment in the U.S. House of Representatives' recent passing of the "Sportsmen's Heritage Act" (H.R. 4089), which includes language that could allow much of the National Park System to be open to hunting and recreational shooting.

Two people, including a 13-year-old boy, were arrested Friday on suspicion of possessing a military-grade weapon believed to have been stolen. ...

Upon arrival, they saw a male, later identified as a 13-year-old boy, sitting on top of a roof and holding a possible rifle. ...

Three weapons were recovered, including an inert M136 AT4 “LAW” anti-tank weapon, a b.b. gun rifle and a replica 9mm hand gun, police said. ...

The U.S Army is expected to confiscate the weapon, police added.

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: A 13-year-old boy "among 2" with an "inert weapon," "a b.b. gun rifle;" "and a replica hand gun"! Send in the Marines!

Ed.: If it is inert, it isn't really a weapon anymore.

I think the New York Times should ask itself whether it would have published the contents of a phone call from an unidentified person that made similar inflammatory charges against Trayvon Martin. I believe that the publication of such unsourced gossip -- which would be totally inadmissible in any trial -- violates the New York Times' own policies. It has some explaining to do.

Recently, the Attorneys General of 22 states and the territory of Guam wrote a letter of support for H.R. 822 to Reps. Stearns and Shuler, stating in part, While some have suggested this legislation would endanger public safety, our experience suggests the opposite. Individuals with concealed carry permits from our states have proven to be more law-abiding than non-licensees, and in many instances have been able to defend themselves and others effectively from criminal attack. Many of our states also have laws recognizing out-of-state permits, and people carrying concealed handguns under those laws have done so without any unusual problems.

Schools in the Sooner State are keenly aware of what their students want. And what is it that students want? Well, increased access to outdoor related activities, including: archery, bow hunting, hunter safety, shotgun sports, and fishing.

In an effort to meet these demands in particular the growing demand for shotgun sports - the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation is rolling out its Shotgun Training and Education Program (STEP) for schools that have had success with other disciplines, i.e. archery or bow hunting, but have not yet fully embraced shotgun sports.

Two House Republicans have put forward a bill that would block funding for or implementation of a United Nations treaty they fear could interfere with the Second Amendment right of Americans.

"The Second Amendment is an individual constitutional right and we must never allow that right to be trampled on by an international treaty," Rep. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.) said Monday. "This U.N. treaty is a direct threat to American sovereignty and the constitutional rights of all Americans.

Law enforcement officials said Wednesday they are glad they have months to prepare for the open-carry legislation signed by Gov. Mary Fallin this week, and at least one metro-area police force will check for permits any time officers see someone openly carrying.

...

Midwest City police will check for permits when they encounter someone openly carrying a gun, Assistant Chief Sid Porter said.

"When public safety comes up, that is No. 1," Porter said. "If we see someone carrying a weapon in a holster, they have to have a permit on them and would be asked to show it. Anybody with a weapon on their side is considered a suspicious person."

"This man was fired by the Wayne County Department of Public Services for doing the right thing," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. "We are stunned that this situation has continued for two weeks. Wayne County officials need to correct this nonsense."

The Missouri General Assembly passed several pro-gun measures, sending them to Governor Jay Nixon before adjournment of the 2012 legislative session.

Senate Bill 489 contains important Right-to-Carry reforms by honoring all live-fire training exercises as part of the concealed carry course prior to changes made in the training requirements last year. SB 489 would also legalize the ownership of auto-opening, switchblade knives throughout Missouri.

Ed.: While the first two are nice, I'm not sure an NRA license plate qualifies as a 'big' victory.

You see, in a couple of cases in the last few years, the Supreme Courts misinterpretation the suitable person language in our carry license law had opened the door for police chiefs to deny pistol licenses to law abiding applicants.

And that is not all, another misinterpretation by the Supreme Court, this time of NHs Range Protection law, seriously hurt NH firearms owners.

You see, not very long after the Range Protection law was passed in 2004, the Supreme Court gutted one key provision that would have protected ranges from being required to comply with new onerous noise ordinances simply because the ranges paperwork wasnt quite in order when they first started shooting.

Victor Crist was a Republican state legislator who crafted the 10-20-life bill enacted in 1999 in Gov. Jeb Bushs first term. He said Alexanders sentence if she truly did fire a warning shot and wasnt trying to kill her husband is not what lawmakers wanted.

We were trying to get at the thug who was robbing a liquor store who had a gun in his possession or pulled out the gun and threatened someone or shot someone during the commission of the crime, said Crist, who served in the state House and Senate for 18 years before being elected Hillsborough County commissioner.

Last Thursday, May 24, the Louisiana House will vote on Senate Bill 303, a constitutional amendment protecting the right to keep and bear arms.

SB 303 has already passed in the state Senate, two House Committees and has been endorsed by Governor Bobby Jindal. This legislation, which would provide for the countrys strongest right to keep and bear arms constitutional amendment, still faces an uphill battle on the House floor and needs your help and support.

On May 11, the Bureau of Land Management announced that it was abandoning the effort to ban recreational shooting on the Sonoran Desert National Monument in Arizona.

BLM released a new proposed management plan that protects monument objects and values through best management practices, but does not close the monument to shooters.

This announcement is a major victory for gun owners, as it reversed BLMs intent to close the half million-acre SDNM to recreational shooting. The original SDNM plan mirrored BLMs decision last year to drive shooters out of the Ironwood Forest National Monument, also in Arizona.

The 525 targets thrown in Mens Skeet during the two-part U.S. Olympic Team Trials werent nearly enough to decide one of the nominees for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Sunday in Tucson, Ariz.

For three worthy adversaries, Olympic fate would go to sudden-death with a 25-target shoot-out.

The resident, a wife of a Marine, opened the front door to find Darling in his birthday suit talking about a cigarette. The woman was understandably perturbed, especially because her two toddlers were asleep upstairs.

She locked the door while her Marine husband went to retrieve his .45-caliber 1911 pistol. Undeterred, Darling tried to break into the house. When Darling began slamming his shoulder into the front door, the Marine warned the crazed man that he had a gun, but Darling responded that he wanted a gun too. Shortly thereafter, Darling dove through a window, prompting the Marine to unload three rounds into his back. They tried to render aid to Darling after he was wounded, but it was already too late.

Yocco had just put his Gadsden flag, which is the first U.S. Marine Corps from 1776, into the trunk of his car and the two had tried to get in front of the protestors. He had won the flag in a YouTube contest and wanted some video of him with it. The black flag had the words Dont tread on me and liberty or death." He had political stickers showing support for the second amendment, Ron Paul and a Gadsden flag sticker on his car.

Five plain-clothed officers, who got out of an unmarked black minivan, started to scream at Yocco and Paczensky to put their hands out. One officer flashed a Chicago Police Department badge and asked what the two were doing. Yocco said they were taking pictures.
