The case involves substantial issues of self-defense and justifiable homicide. Assistant District Attorney Joe Kinzel wrote in an email. To support a charge of murder there must exist sufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the killing was not done in lawful self defense; an issue for which the current state of the evidence was found lacking.

Kinzel said the carjacking and weapons charges were for alleged conduct that happened after, and separately from the homicide.

The Biden administration has proposed a myriad of commonsense gun safety laws which have little to do with common sense. While there is little evidence that supports a correlation between gun control legislation and a decrease in violent crime (in many cases, the opposite is true), Biden has falsely characterized gun violence as a public health epidemic and is using this caricature as a springboard to enact new policies that will do little to solve violent crime. Solving gun violence is a complex issue, and putting in place more gun control is not the answer.

On the East Fork of the Wind River, near Lander, Wyoming, three bow hunters were walking to their hunting grounds, bows in hand. An old boar grizzly suddenly charged them from a few yards left of their approach.

The bow hunters had set up base camp the day before at the East Fork trailhead. The next morning, they rode horses six miles up the trail, turned west, and rode uphill until the terrain was too steep for the horses. At about 7:30, they dismounted and continued up the steep slope of the trail on foot, in line.

This week we highlight petitions that ask the Supreme Court to consider, among other things, the level of suspicion required before the government can search electronic devices at the border, whether New York can require the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany to cover abortion in its employee health care plan, and whether New Jerseys ban on certain firearm magazines violates the Second or Fifth Amendments.

While most American gun owners know that NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is at the tip of the spear when it comes to lobbying against legislative assaults on the Second Amendment, many are unaware of the countless hundreds of hours NRA-ILA devotes to another battleground: Americas judicial system.

Friday night is the deadline for bills to pass the second house. One of those that made the cut is AB286. Democrats passed the bill on a 12-9 party line vote. The bill would ban homemade guns and other firearms that do not have serial numbers. Antiques, replicas and firearms without serial numbers that were made before 1969 are exempt. They are known as ghost guns because they are hard to trace. Supporters say there has been an increase in online sales of kit guns, allowing people to bypass background checks.

A gun rights activist told the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Thursday that educating the public about gun safety, providing firearms training, and enforcing existing gun laws are the answers to reducing shootings, not more legislation like the two background check bills that recently passed the House.

Dianna Muller founder of the DC Project, a womens gun rights group, testified in front of the House Sub-committee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security during a hearing on reducing mass shootings.

Imagine youre new to firearms and want to be armed for self-defense. Youre probably wondering which gun to buy, what type of holster you need, and what kind of ammunition would be best. Some will argue the gun is the most important element because it must work every time. Others will insist the holster matters most because if youre uncomfortable carrying, you wont carry. And then there are those who maintain that ammunition is paramount because ultimately, its the bullet that does all the work. Without question, all these items are important and can contribute to your survival, but what is most important?

I would like to follow up on a recent letter I wrote concerning how to conduct oneself at a police traffic stop.

With many citizens having a concealed weapons permit, carrying firearms or exercising constitutional carry in West Virginia is a subject seldom addressed in how legally armed citizens should conduct themselves at police traffic stops.

As in any traffic stop, the driver should pull over as soon as possible, roll down the drivers window, shut off the ignition and keep their hands in plain sight, as the officer approaches their window.

When Javondlynn Dunagan started her business JMD Defense LLC a few years ago, she would never have imagined that the events of 2020 would be the boost that brought her more customers. The social unrest following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the countrys toxic political culture and an uptick in car jackings and other violent crime in Chicago, however, caused many to flock into her concealed carry classes.

A Second Amendment Sanctuary resolution due to go before the Trempealeau County Board next month is turning board meetings into less of a sanctuary and more of a maelstrom.

Among other things, the resolution would voice the County Boards support for non-enforcement of unconstitutional firearms laws against the citizens of Trempealeau County and that the board resolves to not fund enforcement of those laws.

The Texas House and Senate have reached a compromise on a bill to allow the permitless carrying of handguns, the top negotiators said Friday, moving it even closer to Gov. Greg Abbott's desk for a likely signature.

The author of the legislation, Rep. Matt Schaefer, R-Tyler, announced the deal in a statement Friday afternoon, and the Senate sponsor, Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, issued a subsequent statement also acknowledging an agreement. Details of the compromise were not immediately available.
