"Minnesota judges are using their authority to do something many other government officials wish they could do: Ban guns in their workplaces."
"This week, judges issued orders that explain where guns are forbidden in courthouses and other county offices. Ramsey County appears to have one of the broader bans prohibiting guns everywhere from the city council/county board chambers to a court area in Regions Hospital."

"I am now speaking out as loud as I can and to whom ever will listen. I tell women who are afraid of guns, who have never used or sometimes even held a gun - 'if you follow the rules of gun safety, become trained so you can properly handle the weapon, and know the carry laws in your state, owning a gun can give you an advantage over an assailant that most women would not have without it.' But I also tell them that the gun should not be their only line of self defense. Some of those suggestions are; carry a can of Mace, learn physical self defense skills, always be aware of your surroundings, other everyday items can be used as weapons, and having a plan of self defense in your home (similar to the type of plan you prepare if your house catches on fire). These are all things I tell women when they come into the gun store and firing range where I volunteer my time." |

"...I was talking on the House floor yesterday with two conservatives and I brought up the subject, gently, about the Patriot Act number one. I said, 'Would you two vote for that again if it were on the House floor?', and they said, 'No, we made a serious mistake.' I asked, 'Why did you vote that way?' They said, 'Well, it was the passion of the times; we had to do something after 9/11.' Truth is they could not possibly have read it because it was not even available to us before we voted on it. Members of Congress should not be voting on the fleeting passion of the moment. They should have more passion for their oath of office and passion for what the Constitution says. Then we would not be getting into these problems and wondering how we are going to repeal some of this legislation." |

"That's what the gun-snatchers of the 'Brady Bunch' think, anyway. They say that the NRA is going to have a much tougher time defending our Second Amendment rights without Charleton Heston as president. '[New NRA President Kayne] Robinson is no Moses,' said Eric Howard, spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. They still just can't get over him being an actor and playing Moses. He continued: 'Heston was good at acting as though these extreme measures -- basically, what the NRA is doing -- aren't extreme.' Extreme? Come on, Eric! The extremism is in trying to prove that the Constitution doesn't say what it says! You'll never admit it -- you apparently don't have the intelligence to realize it -- but you're losing all over the map. Oh, you have one or two successes, but overall, people being allowed to carry the means of self defense is increasing all over the country as state after state passes laws to make it easier to carry a gun for self defense." |

"When he announced federal drug and gun charges against a city officer last month, Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin P. Clark forcefully vowed that his department would not tolerate corrupt police officers and said those who strayed from the law should face harsh punishment. In the case of indicted Officer Eduardo Munoz Jr., Clark said a 50-year jail term would not be enough and added: 'If I could turn him loose for the cops this individual used to work with, the punishment would be far worse.' "
"Attorneys for Munoz said in court papers filed yesterday that Clark went too far."

"The censure and perhaps the rage of much of the world, certainly one-fifth of the world's population which is Muslim, most of whom I'll remind you are not Arab, is upon us. Look today at the 14 people killed last night in several explosions in Casablanca. And this rage in a world where almost 50 percent of the planet struggles on less than two dollars a day will see us targeted. Terrorism will become a way of life, and when we are attacked we will, like our allies Putin and Sharon, lash out with greater fury. The circle of violence is a death spiral; no one escapes. We are spinning at a speed that we may not be able to hold. As we revel in our military prowess -- the sophistication of our military hardware and technology, for this is what most of the press coverage consisted of in Iraq -- we lose sight of the fact that just because we have the capacity to wage war it does not give us the right to wage war. This capacity has doomed empires in the past." |

"Chasing after his toy, a 1-year-old San Jose boy drowned when he fell headfirst into a barely filled five-gallon bucket of water Thursday afternoon that his mother had been using to cool off her kids, police said."

"The children's mother had stepped inside for a few minutes to fix the toddlers some food."
------- Senseless tragedy. Preventable with just a background check and bucket registration, if we use Brady logic. |

"Incredibly, the best research, amassed by analyzing the crime statistics in every county in America, proves that more guns translate directly into less crime. In areas where the right to own firearms is the most restricted, crime flourishes; but where gun ownership and possession are least restricted, crime falls often dramatically. This colorful issue shows objectively and conclusively that gun control, at its best, fails to stop crime, and at its worst, enslaves nations." |

FULL STORY BELOW:
Baghdad, Iraq-AP -- Iraqis are to receive permits allowing them to keep guns at home, but nowhere else.
The commander of American ground forces says that's part of a new policy aimed at reducing the number of weapons in Iraq and restoring order. He says there also will be limits on the types of weapons allowed.
The new policy outlaws celebratory fire, customary in Iraq during weddings and birth celebrations, and it restricts firearms carried by bodyguards.
But regulating gun ownership is likely to be unpopular in Iraq, where firearms have a special role in the national culture. Owning a firearm is a matter of pride and a sign of manhood to many Iraqi men. |
