another handgun ban, this one in Washington, D.C., where legislation has been introduced to restore to law-abiding citizens the right of self-defense."
The ... CCRKBA today challenged the Brady group to publicly acknowledge that it consistently supports bans on the private ownership of firearms, despite claims to the contrary."
"'The proposal that the Brady Bunch is opposing,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'would end a gun ban that's been in effect for nearly 30 years. The ban has prevented law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves, because handguns have been banned in the District, and you can't even keep a rifle or shotgun in a residence unless it is dismantled and rendered inoperable.'" ... |

"Among the favored few and special interests who raise huzzahs to the Bush administration, none can feel more beholden than the National Rifle Association. The competition may be keen. But no Bush beneficiary ... can be happier at this moment than the gun lobby."
"Remember last Sept. 13? That's when the assault weapons ban a landmark law and long festering sore point with the NRA was allowed to die as the president stood by, hands clasped. ..."
"Would the lobby now let up? With its guys clearly calling the turn in Congress, nothing's needed there beyond the normal courtesy calls. So how might the NRA's small army of legal talent be kept usefully employed? ... Those lawyers have fanned out like locusts into the legislative halls of every state capitol. Their goal is to widen the beachhead for gun laws that won't stop until every American packs a pistol as casually and yes, as lawfully as his cell phone." ... -------

Submitter's Note: Slashdot, the web's foremost news-for-nerds site, reported today that a new "hack" has appeared for the popular Google Maps web service.
The web site chicagocrime.org uses Google Maps to display a daily-updated "crime map", providing a chilling display of recent crimes perpetrated in one of the gun control movement's flagship US cities.
Thanks to Chicago's mayor Daley, effective self-defense by law-abiding city residents is all but impossible, leaving them at the mercy of violent criminals (to whom gun control laws have never applied).

Six Flags Amusement Parks are sending a strong message to sex offenders: they're not welcome.
Season passes to all of Six Flags' Amusement Parks, which include Darien Lake, now state that the company reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone convicted of a sex crime. Six Flags is the first amusement park chain to single out sex offenders.
The company says it adds an extra layer of protection for visitors.
There's no word on how they'll know if someone is a sex offender. -------

Jury selection got under way Monday. A pool of about 125 potential jurors was brought in.
The two men apparently got into a fist fight after a traffic dispute and then Lloyd allegedly shot Stowers with his service weapon while he was off-duty.
The judge says the trial should last about three weeks. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)] |
