In a nation with more than 30,000 annual deaths from gunfire, and more than 70,000 injuries, promoting the safe storage and handling of guns is an obvious task for public health professionals. At least, it should be. As a paper published online last week at the Annals of Internal Medicine argues, physicians have both a legal right and professional duty to ask patients about gun ownership and storage. |

A Jacksonville lawmaker, who two years ago received a perfect rating from the National Rifle Association, is now a target of the Second Amendment group as he seeks to become a circuit judge. In a letter Saturday to NRA and Unified Sportsmen of Florida members, influential gun-rights lobbyist Marion Hammer deemed House Judiciary Chairman Charles McBurney "unfit" for a judgeship as she implored members to email Gov. Rick Scott to keep the Republican lawmaker "off the bench." |

According to a study by the National Association of EMTs, 52 percent of emergency medical service employees, such as paramedics, report being injured by an assault on the job. Crawford County EMS personnel undergo two days of "de- escalation" training in hopes of reducing cases of assaulted employees. "Now that's only 52 percent that have reported it. I'm one that was attacked three different times and never reported it to anybody, so we know that number is really low," Capt. Brett Peine said, who is leading the training.

More than 80,000 people attended the NRAs Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Louisville, Kentucky, over the weekend, while around 40 marched in a Moms Demand Action rally timed to coincide with the NRA event. A similar scenario occurred in April 2015 as Moms Demand held a rally to counter the NRA Annual Meetings, that one held in Nashville, Tennessee. Breitbart News attended the Moms Demand Rally in Nashville and took photographs to show the group was only able to garner about 150 attendees to counter the approximately 70,000 who attended the NRA meetings.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today rather publicly told anti-gun California Sen. Barbara Boxer that if she feared for her safety in the wake of an incident in Nevada last week, instead of surrounding herself with security, she might consider getting a gun. CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, returning from the National Rifle Associations annual convention in Kentucky, observed, Boxer has traditionally supported restrictive gun laws to keep people disarmed, so she should try buying a gun and find out firsthand what its like to be treated the same way as her constituents. |

Police in Texas say more crimes are being committed with imitation weapons such as BB guns, likely because they're cheap, easy to obtain and criminals may believe -- mistakenly -- that if they're caught, they'll avoid the severe punishment that can come with illegally possessing a real one. Police Lt. Christopher Cook in the Dallas suburb of Arlington said arrestees are telling his officers of their preference for the imitation weapons. They can be purchased for as little as $25, and no background check is required. |

Voters have heard from the three candidates vying to succeed Republican John Boehner in Congress at a forum on Monday. Miami University's event center in downtown Hamilton hosted the candidates ahead of a June 7 special election to complete Boehner's term. Boehner had held the heavily Republican 8th District seat since being elected in 1990 but vacated it last year, when he stepped down as speaker of the House. |

Part of the fun of the NRA Annual Meeting is seeing the firearm displays that range from sidearms of the old West to the biggest and baddest ARs out there, some so powerful they defy human hands. One such bad boy was the Barrett M1077A1 that captured everyones attention. A .50 caliber semiautomatic, the beast held 10 rounds in its magazine. Barrel lengths were a choice of 20 or 29 inches, with an overall length of 48 or 57 inches (not exactly ideal for concealed carry). Depending on accessories, the gun weighed about 28 pounds. |

The Sig Sauer P229 has been one of Sigs most popular models for a number of years, and not only does it have a big following in law enforcement, but also with legally armed citizens who are looking for top drawer ordnance for self-defense use. Now the Sig Sauer Custom Shop has taken the P229 and shortened the barrel length from 3.9 to 3.5 inches, resulting in a pistol with an overall length of 6.7 inches, which translates into a pistol thats more compact and easier to draw from a holster. |

With crime rates on the rise throughout the nation, 2nd Amendment supporters are pointing out that Hillary Clintons gun-control positions are more dangerous than ever for law-abiding Americans. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) is calling Clinton the the most anti-2nd Amendment presidential candidate in history after she unequivocally stated that she believes the Supreme Court got its District of Columbia v. Heller decision wrong. That ruling prohibits state and local officials from creating needless hurdles to gun ownership in violation of the 2nd Amendment. |

Gun-grabbing Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper enjoyed softball questions on Monday as the co-hosts of CBS This Morning uncritically hyped his gun control moves in the state and talked him up as a potential vice president to Hillary Clinton. Attempting to spin Hickenlooper as a moderate, Charlie Rose touted, What's the difficulty in explaining, on the one hand, that certain kinds of guns you don't want people to be able to get, you want certain procedures and at the same time saying you do not want to do away with the Second Amendment? |

Imagine you've just worked (and probably partied) your tail off for a few years. You've been given a slip of paper that says you're smart, and you're ready to enter "the real world." Sure, these days that means you're probably moving back home to live with your parents but you're hopeful and eager nonetheless. It's time to get out there and do ....whatever it is you're going to do. But first, you get to spend part of your big graduation day listening to some left-wing figurehead as they prattle on about how exercising your rights will lead to more homegrown terrorism. |

State lawmakers enter the final week of the 2016 Oklahoma Legislature on Monday with a catalog of unfinished business. That includes measures to allow Oklahomans to openly carry guns without a license or background checks, a ballot measure to expand beer and wine sales, a proposal to raise teacher salaries, a $125 million bond issue to help repair Oklahoma's nearly 100-year-old Capitol, and a possible attempt to override Gov. Mary Fallin's veto of a bill that would essentially ban abortion in the state. |

Govenor Terry McAuliffes order last month restoring the voting rights of 206,000 felons had an unintended consequence: Its now easier for those ex-offenders to regain the right to own guns. Before the order, felons who wanted to legally possess firearms first had to go through the process of having their civil rights reinstated, including the right to vote, to sit on a jury and to run for office. |
