"While Democrats fret over the possibility of Ralph Nader causing them to lose another election by stealing votes on the left, President Bush may face an even greater third-party threat from the right wing. The Libertarian Party nominee could cost Mr. Bush his job in 2004."

"...the Libertarian nominee may do for Democrats in 2004 what Nader did for Republicans in 2000." ...

" 'The Libertarians will impact Republicans more than Nader will impact Democrats,' said Lawrence Jacobs, the director of the 2004 Elections Project for the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota and possibly the nations preeminent expert on third-party politics."

"This is how you save the Republican Party."

"You dont spin your wheels trying to start a third party. You dont give up and not vote anymore. You roll up your sleeves and do the hard work of recruiting conservative candidates to run against liberal Republicans and take them out in Republican primaries."

"If you want to save the Republican Party from its own squishy leadership, you have to recruit conservative candidates and help them raise the money they need to run good campaigns. You have to send a message to all sell-out Republicans that there is such a thing as discipline in the Republican Party. ..."

So what happens if you can't find a true conservative to run against the RINO?

"One thing I know about NRA members is that they're not just worried about the Second Amendment. Any issue of freedom and personal responsibility concerns them, and one of my main goals this year is bringing personal responsibility and accountability back into our lives and our legislation. These issues range from the 'Cheeseburger Bill' that protects restaurants from being sued because someone enjoyed their product a little too much, to shielding gunmakers from predatory lawsuits simply because their product wasn't used as it was intended."

"One piece of legislation that your members should be concerned about is the 'Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act,' ..."

Yes, we gun owners are very concerned about this bill. It basically sets up an elite class of citizens whose lives are deemed more precious than the average civilian and who is more trusted than the average civilian to carry a concealed firearm.

"Tracing records compiled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), researchers at the University of California-Davis found in 1998, 2,121 crime guns were recovered in California from 1,717 people younger than age 25. The possessors of these guns were likely to be male (95.5 percent), and more than half (58.6 percent) were not of legal age to purchase handguns."

"Recently, I've been seeing reports that the Violence Policy Center doesn't think that the Assault Weapons Ban was effective, because its restrictions were primarily cosmetic and easily worked around by manufacturers. Their proposed remedy, unsurprisingly, was to pass another ban -- a stronger one. Gun rights figures argue that the ban wasn't effective for other reasons, such as, for example, banning weapons that are almost never used in crime. Unfortunately, on this issue there's an elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about."

"Gary Arnold, general manager of Wilton Mall, has been there since it opened in the early 1990s and said guns on the premises haven't been a problem."

"The mall does depend on its security guards and an active camera system to deter crime and theft, he said." ...

"That was not the case at Crossgates Mall Saturday, when a store owner was accused of firing on two men in the parking lot after they allegedly fled from his store with a $25,000 ring they didn't pay for. While two suspects are sought in connection with the theft, Albert Hannoush, owner of Hannoush Jewelers, was charged with felony reckless endangerment."

"At Wilton Mall, it's against the rules to carry a weapon. ..."

-------
Looks like the rent-a-cops and cameras didn't prevent this particular theft. And since the mall bans armed self defense on its premises, will the patrons be allowed to sue if they are victimized inside the mall and the cameras and security guards don't help?

And here's an ignorant statement from a - who else - District Attorney:

"I think that it's ill-advised to take the law into your own hands and use a weapon against someone who may be taking property... Cooperate, try to get a mental description, call the police. Don't do anything that may jeopardize your own safety."

Many a victim has tried to cooperate with many an armed thug. Many have gotten beaten or shot for their trouble. Is that what you want, Mr. DA?

"The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association has inaugurated its Misfire Awards in order to bring to New Yorkers' attention the many needless gun laws proposed in the State Assembly and State Senate, as well as by local government. Watch your tax dollars at work as legislators author bills that will have no effect on crime, but will harass law-abiding New Yorkers who wish to use firearms for legitimate sporting and/or self-defense purposes."

"The first Misfire Award goes to Assembly bill A03539. Not only will this bill have no effect on crime, it may increase it! A03539 requires common carriers to provide drivers carrying firearms shipments with manifests listing, among other things, the 'make, model and manufacturer's name of each firearm' and 'the serial number for each firearm sold or exchanged on the Internet...' Naturally, these manifests will have to be created by office staff, and accompany the boxed firearms to the warehouse or loading dock. Can you think of a better way to alert sticky-fingered employees to the availability of prime merchandize? Kudos to the bill's sponsors for creating a new problem while attempting to solve one that did not exist!"

"The Criminal Domestic Violence Homicide Act has caused some controversy among those who consider it a form of gun control, but it was full steam ahead on Wednesday morning. The bill has been mired in politics for six years, but made it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee."

"There are a number of facets, but essentially what the act does is prevent a person who has committed an act of felony domestic violence from owning a gun. If a person is subject to a restraining order at the magistrate level or an order of protection has been issued by a family court judge, the judge at his discretion can order the guns to be removed. It also gives judges the discretion to take guns away as a condition of bond."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.
