For decades, gun control advocates constantly claim that Right-to-Carry laws would lead to disaster. But when disasters dont occur they move on to the next prediction of disaster. We have to keep track of these predictions if only to judge how much weight to give to their erroneous predictions.

Montana is the latest state to let people carry concealed handguns on college campuses, and the state Board of Regents for the university system demanded an emergency stay from the state Supreme Court because serious harm is threatened if the law goes into effect on June 1. The Regents took a real gamble in using such apocalyptic language because the state Supreme Court didnt grant them their stay.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed a bill Wednesday that makes the state a Second Amendment sanctuary.

Senate Bill 1335 prevents any "law, treaty, executive order, rule, or regulation of the United States government" that violates the Tennessee Constitution or the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution from being enforced in the state.

That violation would have to be determined by either the Tennessee or U.S. Supreme Court. The stipulation was added during debate of the bill in the Tennessee House, and the Senate concurred.

In The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America, the historian Carol Anderson argues that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, which provides for a well regulated militia and the right of the people to keep and bear arms, offers a particularly maddening set of double standards where race is concerned. On the one hand, she claims that slaveholding founding fathers insisted on the inclusion of the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights in order to assure themselves of a fighting force willing to suppress slave insurrections.

However, the bill came very close to not making it through the Senate, and there were 50 amendments that came and went in the process. As it heads to becoming a law, its worth looking at the refining process, particularly the amendments that Democrats pushed to try and mitigate the damage of the law.

Ed.: Everything the author says 'failed', was actually included in the final bill. Everything he said 'succeeded', was not actually in the final bill.

A new law that will enable people in Texas who are 21 or older to carry a handgun without a permit and background check could backfire, says James Alan Fox, a criminologist at Northeastern and one of the nations leading researchers on mass murder.

The rationale that is driving the movement to loosen restrictions is based largely on a misconception about gun violence, Fox adds.

In the wake of yet another mass shooting, this one leaving eight people dead in San Jose, advocates for gun safety and gun rights expressed frustration with the response, particularly by the federal government.

Right now, there are way too many people slipping through the cracks," said Carol Landale, who leads the San Diego chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "People who shouldnt have guns are getting them and its unacceptable.

Gun-rights organizations and a handful of young people in Illinois sued to overturn state laws banning people under 21 from carrying firearms in public, arguing that the rules violate the Second Amendment rights of young, but of-age gun owners.

In their challenge of the laws, the Second Amendment Foundation, Illinois State Rifle Association and Firearms Policy Coalition claim allowing only people over 21 to hold licenses to carry guns not only violates their Second Amendment rights but unfairly targets a group less likely to commit violent crimes than their older counterparts.

We have a Second Amendment in this country, and I think we have an obligation to use it, Gaetz said at a rally with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) in Dalton, located in Greenes home district.

Some admittedly controversial gun reform solutions

So I propose some controversial solutions: outlaw the possession, sale and transfer of ammunition, and supply a taser to anyone who turns in a handgun, for starters. The Second Amendment does not specify ammunition as something protected by legal right. Just stage a lightening-like strike from Guam to Maine at the same moment, conducted by armed forces and police to confiscate every bullet from every shelf of every store and legislate the manufacture of ammunition be directed only and exclusively to the military and the police.

Today, the Oklahoma Legislature adjourned Sine Die from a successful legislative session for gun owners in the Sooner State. Thanks to NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters, the following pro-gun measures were signed into law:

House Bill 1630 /Senate Bill 106, sponsored by Sen. Mark Allen, and Rep. David Hardin, allows for the use of an SDA license in place of a background check when purchasing a firearm.

Senate Bill 646, sponsored by Sen. Michael Bergstrom, will allow for an individual to carry a firearm in the designated bar area of a restaurant as long as that person is not consuming alcohol.

Another high profile piece of legislation that made its way through the legislature in recent days is the permitless carry bill, that will do away with the states requirement for a license to carry a gun.

The measure commonly known as constitutional carry cleared its last hurdle on Monday as both chambers approved agreed changes.

While similar to its neighbors, Connecticut has a political makeup that is dominated by people who identify as being left of center, but they also have a very large Second Amendment community.

On Sunday, May 16, 2021, the Connecticut Citizens Defense League (CCDL) held a fundraising BBQ event (the 2021 Dinner Out). I had the pleasure of having an invitation extended to me and Im really glad that I went. The CCDL is a state-run Second Amendment advocacy group. From CCDLs mission statement:

Montanans are fiercely independent and cherish our constitutional rights and freedoms. We are proud to report that this legislative session Republicans passed a series of bills that safeguard individual rights, and thankfully we have a Governor who has signed them into law.

Early in the session, House Republicans introduced House Bill 102 to expand permitless carry of firearms. This legislation protects the individual right to self-defense and strengthens Montanans Second Amendment rights. Similar bills have been vetoed in previous sessions but House Bill 102 was signed into law by Governor Gianforte. Other pro-Second Amendment legislation pushes back on the enforcement of new federal gun or ammunition bans in the state.

Ammunition consumers indicate that demand will remain strong well into 2021. According to Southwick Associates ongoing shooting sports consumer market research, multiple reasons are driving the continued unparalleled demand.

In April 2021, Southwick Associates surveyed more than 1,800 ammunition consumers as part of its quarterly HunterSurvey/ShooterSurvey tracking study. In 2020, four out of five consumers encountered out-of-stock issues while trying to purchase ammunition, while three-quarters encountered out-of-stock situations so far in 2021. Of these respondents, 79% reported either fully or partially reducing their target shooting and hunting outings as a result of depleted ammunition shelves.

An armed school employee thwarted a kidnapping Tuesday after he confronted a man on a playground with his gun, according to police.

The situation started about 2:30 p.m. at an unidentified elementary school in Ogden.

Ira Cox-Berry, 41, approached and grabbed a student, an 11-year-old girl, who was playing on the playground, police said. Cox-Berry allegedly pulled the girl away as if he was trying to leave with her, but a school employee approached Cox-Berry and demanded that he leave the school.

America's baffling but lethal love affair with guns goes from strength to strength. New figures show 2020 was the deadliest gun violence year in decades.

At the same time, Americans are buying guns in record numbers, while Texas lawmakers this week became the latest to vote to allow people to carry handguns without either a licence, background check or any training.

The British response is traditionally to sigh in weary bewilderment and just be glad that such a terrifying arms race doesn't exist in the UK. And yet there's reason to be alarmed.

Ed.: Starts off very anti-gun, but there are some great gun collection photos. :-)
