"TEN suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) practically disarmed the other night a police Kababayan Center in Bulaon Resettlement Site in San Fernando City, running away with the station's firearms."
"A report from Supt. Nicanor Targa, San Fernando City's chief of police, revealed that at about 9:15 pm, Wednesday night, heavily armed men attacked the center and took away the police post's five M-16 Armalite rifles ... one 9MM pistol ... and one cellular phone."

"Traverse City police Officer Evan Warsecke hid his gun in their Interlochen home, but the boy 'climbed up into a place where, to be honest, I couldn't have gotten,' Benzie County Undersheriff Joseph Barone said. He apparently was playing with it when it discharged."

"The Virginia Shooting Sports Association (VSSA), the state affiliate of the NRA, said today that Arlington County is creating a registry of gun owners by misleading them to believe the information will be used as a tool to recover stolen firearms. The Virginia Legislature recently passed a law (HB484) requiring localities to destroy gun purchase permits by July 31st of this year. The bill repeals local purchase and registration schemes, but that hasnt stopped Arlington County from trying to register guns and gun owners."

"In the post-9/11 world, we all think about security differently."
"So it's not surprising the state Legislature planned to spend $1 million in security and add metal detectors to the state Capitol as part of $115 million renovation of the building where the House, Senate and governor do their business. It makes sense. After all, the Capitol is a high-profile building where a lot of people gather."
"But, after reviewing state law, officials have determined that it is legal to carry firearms in the Capitol. State law bans guns at certain places, such as public school buildings, but it does not specifically ban them at the Capitol. Therefore, according to the Department of General Administration, a visitor will be able to carry a firearm onto the Capitol Campus and through metal detectors if he or she has a valid concealed weapons permit." ...
"The Legislature should either change the law to ban guns at the Capitol or abandon the $1 million security effort. Installing high-tech security equipment is a waste of money under the current conditions." ... -------
So "in the post 9/11 world" the threat to legislators comes from concealed carry permit holders, one of the most law-abiding demographics in the country. |

"New Scottish Executive statistics show there were 26,505 firearm certificates issued at the end of 2003, an increase of 293 on the previous year and the first increase since 1995. In the same period 52,421 shotgun certificates were issued, up 643, and the first rise since 1988."

... "The features that flagged these guns as intolerable, such as bayonet mounts and folding stocks, are features that have nothing to do with their killing power. The ban is the moral equivalent of banning red cars because they look too fast."
"Some gun-control supporters acknowledge as much. Tom Diaz of the Violence Policy Center said earlier this year, 'If the existing assault weapons ban expires, I personally do not believe it will make one whit of difference in terms of our objective ....' The VPC now says a broader ban is needed."
Why? Because 'gun makers have easily evaded the law by making slight, cosmetic changes to banned guns and continued their sale unimpeded.' But if you ban red cars and automakers increase their output of maroon ones, that's not evading the law - that's complying with the law."

The grand jury found that Darryl Taylor did not take "any action which would have required" State Trooper Angel Rodriguez to have fired the shot that killed him. It also found 'no criminal responsibility in this shooting.'"
"It happened on April Seventh, when Trooper Rodriguez pulled over a car Taylor was driving that had no brake lights. Rodriguez ran a check on the car's tag, and found the vehicle was reported stolen. So he planned to arrest Taylor on the felony charge, and asked him to get out of the car."

"An outdoorsman since his youth, Roeder admits that over the years he often put a handgun in his bag on hunting trips. These days, with his Hennepin County-issued permit, he nearly always keeps a handgun in his truck or with him when he's riding his Harley Davidson."
"'Now, at least it's legal,' he said."
"Roeder is among the more than 22,000 Minnesotans to receive handgun permits since the law was changed a year ago to make it much easier.
