The state will not be filing charges against Ragina Louise Armstrong, 51, in Wednesday's fatal shooting of John Robert Atkinson, 44, according to Assistant District Attorney Kevin Etherington.
Payne County Sheriff Kevin Woodward told the News Press Wednesday that Armstrong called 911 at 8:21 a.m. and told the dispatcher she had shot Atkinson in the head. The shooting occurred in the 3100 block of S. Twin Mounds Road in Yale.
Etherington said Armstrong claimed self-defense in the shooting. |

Much of the media's attention has rightfully focused on how the protests-turned-riots undermine the justified outrage over George Floyd's cruel death at the hands of the police, and the unacceptable arrest of CNN reporters who were trying to cover the developments.
At the same time, these troubling developments should provide a renewed appreciation for the importance of the Second Amendment and how the right to self-defense uplifts minority groups in particular.
During the riots, many minority-owned Minneapolis businesses have unfortunately been looted or destroyed. In response, a number of responsible, law-abiding citizens, both black and white, have exercised their Second Amendment rights to protect their businesses. |

The National Rifle Association and Florida officials are asking a federal judge to drop court-ordered mediation in a lawsuit challenging a 2018 state law that prevents people under age 21 from purchasing firearms.
The ban was included in a sweeping law passed in response to the Feb. 14, 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Nikolas Cruz, who was 19 at the time of the shooting, is accused of killing 17 students and faculty members with a semi-automatic weapon. The law raised the age from 18 to 21 to purchase long guns, such as rifles and shotguns. |

The union representing Minneapolis Police Officers has long felt that the democratically elected mayor, Jacob Frey, should not be the boss of them. Across the country, armed insurgent demonstrators have expressed similar feelings about their governors: In Michigan, a gang with assault weapons drove the state senators to abandon the capitol. Turns out, in uniform or out, white men with guns can pose a real problem for old-fashioned representative government. In attitudes and political loyalties, a scary number of the people professing to defend the government look more like the problem than the solution. |

So yeah, when the phaser gets invented, it, too will be protected by the Second Amendment. But bearable arms aren't just guns or futuristic laser pistols. Knife Rights has been taking on the battle with bladed weapons. One other facet emerging in the Second Amendment debate is body armor. There are some efforts to restrict or ban possession of body armor in Congress.
One of those efforts is HR 4568, the Responsible Body Armor Possession Act, introduced by Representative Grace Meng (D-NY). This legislation makes it illegal for civilians to own Level III body armor after the enactment of the bill. |

After a thorough briefing by detectives from the Cheyenne Police Department regarding their investigation, and an analysis of those facts under Wyoming law, I made the only decision I could, which was to dismiss Mr. Ketchams case, Manlove said.
Based on the information available on May 22, 2020, there was probable cause to believe that Mr. Ketcham committed the crime of second-degree murder, Manlove said. But as the investigation matured and the facts were fully developed, it became clear that under Wyomings reasonable defensive force law, Wyoming Statute 6-6-602, Mr. Ketcham is immune from prosecution, Manlove said. |

Republican Lynn Fitch became attorney general in January. Her office said in a statement Thursday to WCBI-TV that it reviewed thousands of documents in the case and concluded there was not evidence to prosecute the former officer, Canyon Boykin.
In fact, all evidence, including forensics and the sworn statements of four separate MBI investigators, points to necessary self-defense, said Fitchs statement, which did not mention the race of Boykin or Ball.
MBI is the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. |

I recently had to attend my states concealed carry class. Most concealed carriers dont get to attend these classes too often. I havent attended one in years, but through a bit of a fluke, I had to attend one to one to get my current states resident permit. Although I love training I ever disappointed in the class. Today I am going to offer a review of it
Im going to split the review in two parts. Part I will cover instructorship and some things witnessed in the conduct of the class. Part II will be a follow-up post covering some of the incredibly bad information passed during the class. |

The Jasper County prosecutor acknowledged Friday that self-defense considerations have kept her office from filing charges on a Neosho woman who shot her boyfriend Wednesday in Joplin.
Joplin police sent reports of their investigation of the shooting and a probable-cause affidavit to Prosecutor Theresa Kenney on Thursday, seeking assault charges on the 48-year-old girlfriend of Manuel Davis, who was misidentified in Friday's edition of the Globe.
"They sent (charges) over, but I'm not filing them," Kenney told the Globe. "There are self-defense issues there." |

About 100 kilometers west of Verona in Northern Italy is the mountain village of Gardone Val Trompia, home of the famous Beretta factory. Beretta has been manufacturing firearms here for 500 years, making it the world's oldest gunmakerin fact, the world's oldest manufacturer of any kind. Beretta originally crafted barrels for arquebuses and smoothbore muskets; and has gone on to become a standard-setter for sporting, competition and civilian self-defense rifles, shotguns and pistols. |

On March 13, armed men that he did not know forced themselves into the apartment of Kenneth Walker's girlfriend Breonna Taylor, allegedly without announcing that they were police. Because, as we now know, Taylor was not a drug dealer or otherwise actively involved in crime of any sort, Walker had no reason to believe the men were anything other than home intruders, so he shot one of them, who tragically turned out to be a police officer. |

Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun prohibition lobbying group founded by billionaire former presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg, has just done American gun owners a favor by releasing to The Hill its first round of political endorsements in an effort to retain a gun sense majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
There are 58 names on the list, and not surprisingly, they are all Democrats. The Hill is reporting that the list was released exclusively to the publication Thursday. It is also now posted on their website. |

A state Senate panel advanced Thursday a troika of bills that would limit local Louisiana governments from banning guns in many situations and would allow firearms into a church with the permission of the pastor but without having to notify the congregation.
Two of the three House-passed bills were okayed by the Senate Judiciary C committee with the sole Democrat voting no and the third bill was forwarded without dissent. The full Senate could vote to send the legislation to the governors desk before the Legislature adjourns at 6 p.m. Monday. |

Mass. Gov. Charlie Baker's decision to allow gun shops to reopen during the pandemic following a successful legal challenge by retailers doesn't moot their case, an attorney for the stores told a federal judge Friday, citing the possibility that a second wave of the coronavirus could trigger another shutdown.
During a telephone hearing, attorney David D. Jensen told U.S. District Judge Douglas P. Woodlock that the case isn't moot despite the state's decision to include gun stores among a first wave of businesses that could reopen starting May 18. That move came after Judge Woodlock issued a preliminary ruling in early May finding that the initial shutdown violated the Second Amendment and ordering the state to reopen the stores. |

SB 914, sponsored by Senator Anthony Portantino (D-25), limits when a hunting license satisfies the requirements for purchasing a long gun for those under 21 by requiring the license to be currently valid. This means an individual who has purchased a license for an upcoming season will not satisfy the requirements of the bill. Additionally, SB 914 narrows the exemptions of loans of long-guns to minors and raises the fees the California Department of Justice can charge for eligibility checks on certain ammunition purchases and precursor parts. |
