The agency explains in a press release that the unidentified man was hunting turkeys on BLM land bordering the Snake River when he inadvertently startled a cow moose with twin calves. The cow charged him immediately.

The hunter fired two warning shots at the ground in front of the moose as it charged him, IDFG spokesperson Jennifer Jackson tells Outdoor Life. But the huge animal continued its charge toward the man. The cow knocked the hunter to the ground, so he fired a third shot hitting the animal at close range. The moose then turned and ran away, allowing the hunter to escape.

Parents of the Uvalde school shooting victims and gun reform advocates tried and failed to get the legislature to raise the age to buy assault weapons. They say the fight isn't over yet but they acknowledge that getting any gun reform legislation passed is an uphill battle.

Since Uvalde, Texas has had several more mass shootings. There were 65 mass shootings in Texas in 2023 according to the Gun Violence Archive, which considers any single incident where four or more people were shot or killed, not including the shooter, a mass shooting. That includes a mass shooting at the Allen Premium Outlets, where a gunman with Nazi tattoos shot and killed eight people.

The case centers on Mr. Duarte, who had five non-violent felony convictions. In March 2020, during a traffic stop, Duarte was found in possession of a firearm, which he attempted to discard. He was subsequently indicted under 18 USC Sec. 922(g)(1), a law barring felons from owning firearms. ...

A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit applied the analytical framework from the Supreme Courts Bruen decision. They concluded that Duartes right to bear arms for self-defense is protected by the Second Amendment and that the government failed to provide historical precedent to justify the lifelong ban on firearm possession for non-violent felons.

With the exception of the presidency, reform candidates ran the table resulting in a new direction for the 153-year-old Association. First Vice-President Bob Barr beat out a strong challenge from Owen Buz Mills, a retired businessman and the owner of Gunsite Academy. The 1st VP chair was filled by reform candidate Bill Bachenberg. The 2nd VP chair went to reform candidate Mark Vaughan, and in the most surprising election, the position of Interim Executive Vice President and CEO went to reform candidate Doug Hamlin over popular firearm designer and manufacturer Ronnie Barrett.

Vermont Gov. Phil Scott has allowed a bill into law without his signature that would make so-called ghost guns illegal in an effort to close loopholes around firearm background checks.

The law, which goes into effect in March 2025, will make it illegal to own a firearm without a serial number.

"It prevents people from printing guns off of a 3D printer or buying kits over the internet that are unserialized, so it makes sure they get a background check and get a serial number," said Sen. Phil Baruth, the Senate President Pro Tem.

Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, a Republican, has allowed a bill to become law that requires serial numbers on firearms that are privately made with individual parts, kits or 3D printers.

Scott allowed the bill, part of an effort to crack down on hard-to-trace ghost guns that are increasingly showing up in crimes, to become law without his signature. He said in a letter to lawmakers Tuesday that while he agrees that firearms should be serialized as a public safety measure, he has concerns about the law's practicality and impact.

While the number of guns being stolen from vehicles has seen a dramatic decrease, thieves are now going back to burglaries to get their weapons. Police said they've seen an increase in firearms stolen from people's homes, which makes proper gun safety and storage more important.

It's not just about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals though; police also want to make sure guns don't get into the wrong hands at home or a friend's house.
