"U.S. Rep. John Hostettler (R-Ind.) voted Thursday for Judiciary Committee passage of a bill designed to protect gun manufacturers from politically motivated frivolous lawsuits."
"In recent years we've seen frivolous lawsuits brought with the intention of bankrupting law-abiding businesses... The Constitution grants the sole power of regulating interstate commerce to Congress, but this authority is increasingly undermined by the proliferation of lawsuits against the manufacturers and sellers of legal products. In these cases, lawsuits are filed not in the pursuit of justice, but to achieve a political agenda." |

"Ordinarily, the announcement by a law professor that he is not completing the second volume of the third edition of his book would not even merit a yawn."
"But when that professor is Harvard Law School's liberal lion Laurence Tribe, the book is his famed treatise 'American Constitutional Law' and he announces his decision in a letter to a Supreme Court justice, legal academics are left gasping in surprise and reaching deep for the appropriate metaphor." ...
"That most recent volume made headlines, surprisingly enough, because in it Tribe embraced a more individual rights view of the Second Amendment than he had before -- a shift that the National Rifle Association and other gun rights advocates seized on as vindication of their longtime assertions." |

"There is no group organized as Gun Owners Against Violence. At least no group with that name was found in a web search. There is an obvious reason. At least a reason obvious to gun owners. No such group is needed because all gun owners are against violence. Gun Owners Against Violence would be a redundant nomenclature, like Mammals for Breathing."
"Gun owners are categorically against violence in our communities because that is a natural position for law-abiding civic minded members of our society. Violence involving firearms is particularly repugnant because too often the result is an illogical condemnation of equipment. Some people get mad at guns." |

"According to the BBC, a research team from West Middlesex University Hospital published a study calling for a ban on the public availability of long, pointed kitchen knives. The research involved consulting '10 chefs from around the UK.' These chefs felt such knives have little practical value in the kitchen. According to the article, a Home Office spokesman stated that the law prohibits possession of knives with blades greater than three inches long in public places. The spokesman said, 'An individual has to demonstrate that he had good reason to possess a knife, for example for fishing, other sporting purposes or as part of his profession (e.g. a chef) in a public place.' How is that for a touch of irony?" |

Your editorial board has evidently succumbed to the delusion that our Bill of Rights is actually a "Bill of Needs."
You may not believe that I need a .50 caliber rifle, but that is my decision to make - not yours.
The Second Amendment was written so that every citizen would have the means to resist foreign aggression as well as domestic tyranny. It does not exist merely as a courtesy to sportsmen and hunters.
It's nice that you claim to support the right to bear arms, but when you qualify that support with a caveat about what someone "needs," you've already run afoul of the Constitution.
