A man suspected of burglarizing cars in the Mar Vista area was shot in the face by a resident early this morning, police said.
The man was breaking into vehicles when he was confronted by a resident at about 1:40 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Dennis Beacham.
"He was subsequently shot and sustained a gunshot wound to the facial area," Beacham said. "Its my understanding hes in stable condition." |

The real issue, however, is the disturbing language in the use of the phrase 'other dangerous people.' What criteria are used to establish or identify these 'other dangerous people'? I have three earned degrees, work as a professional engineer, and own a number of rifles, shotguns and pistols. Am I a 'dangerous person'?
Anyone with any knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and the freedoms it protects should be alarmed at the shallowness of this line of thinking. It is always interesting that those such as the Brady Campaign liberally employ the First Amendment to proliferate their half-truths but at the same time want to deny others their Second Amendment right to 'keep and bear arms.' |

...if you had a gun in your home you were 47 times more likely to shoot a family member, or an acquaintance, than you were an intruder. When I debated the head of Washington Cease Fire on local radio, he left out the or acquaintance part. ...when I pointed out that when the good doctor finally identified the specific shootings on which he was basing his claim, they were almost all drug deals gone bad, pimps shooting reluctant hookers, abusive boy friends who had it coming and the like. They were people with long histories of criminal activity and or mental problems. The idea that ordinary people with guns were a danger to the community just didnt wash. |

...recent wrangling between Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen and Gov. Jim Doyle illustrates that it's time for the state to come to grips with the issues of gun rights and gun violence.
...
Green Bay Police Chief Jim Arts tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette that he concurs with the sentiment expressed by Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn, who said: "My message to my troops is if you see anybody carrying a gun on the streets of Milwaukee, we'll put them on the ground, take the gun away and then decide whether you have the right to carry it."
Ed.: That sentiment is sure to make the KKK nostalgic: `If we see any [racial slur] walking 'round, we'll put'em on the ground, then decide whether they are freemen or slaves.` |

Just because they weren't allowed to speak during a recent gun control forum in Wheaton doesn't mean a group of gun-rights supporters will keep silent.
In fact, many gun owners' rights advocates voiced displeasure over what they called a "one-sided" April 21 forum hosted by several League of Women Voters chapters and the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
...
Rosanna Pulido, who recently ran as the Republican candidate in Illinois' 5th Congressional District, has organized a forum about the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. She said the event is a response to dozens of gun-rights supporters being prohibited from speaking during last month's gun control meeting. |

Leftists would love to abolish personal gun ownership despite the Second Amendments guarantee. Obama says the right things, but his voting record and judicial philosophy make clear he is no friend of lawful gun owners. Democrats know the game. Run pro-gun candidates in states that respect the Constitution and allow activist judges to do the dirty work. However, watch allegedly pro-2nd Amendment Senators such as Jim Webb and Mark Warner line up behind Obamas judicial nominees. |

A Texas lawmaker wants to further push state sovereignty from the federal government.
Rep. Leo Berman, a former Arlington mayor pro tem, has filed a bill to make guns, ammunition and gun parts that are made, sold and kept in Texas free from federal regulation.
That would exempt them from federal gun registration, dealer licensing rules and buyer background checks. State laws would still apply.
"This does two things," said Berman, a Tyler Republican. "It tests our sovereignty in relationship to the federal government, and it would attract new small gun manufacturers to the state to manufacture certain types of weapons and ammunition that are only used in intrastate commerce." |

Philadelphia's nine month-old lost-and-stolen law, for example, remains under legal appeal that could take another year or two.
Everett Gillison, deputy mayor for public safety, tells me that while 152 guns have been reported lost or stolen since the city law took effect in July, not one has been recovered. Not one.
The effectiveness of the assault-weapons ban, in place from 1995 to 2004, seems greater. Rendell says that federal stats show that crimes committed with assault weapons are up since the ban was lifted. And he says that more than 40 police officers were killed with assault weapons, a stat that his office attributes to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. |

But if left loaded and unsecured or sold illegally, firearms are objects that have the potential to negatively impact the lives of American citizens. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette recently ran an article that said gun sales are at record levels and that fear of government controls are causing a buying spree of weapons and ammunition.
According to the article, "more than 4.2 million firearms background checks were performed from November 2008 through this January." Gun dealers who were interviewed for the article said the increase in sales is "fueled by a simple mentality: stockpile while you can." |

After resigning from the governorship of New York in shame and spending months out of the public eye, Eliot Spitzer (D) has decided to launch a campaign to rehabilitate himself by giving unsolicited gun control advice to President Barack Obama. Yes, this is the same Eliot Spitzer who, after railing against the "unregulated" firearm industry as New York's Attorney General, was driven from public office when caught spending $4,300 on a member of the oldest and most unregulated of professions. |

Republican Assembly members Will Barclay and Dave Townsend voted against gun-control legislation Wednesday that they believe would negatively impact the rights of law-abiding gun owners and dealers. "The Assembly majority has once again introduced anti-gun bills that will infringe on the rights of hunters, sportsmen, and those who legally use firearms for self-protection, said Assemblyman Barclay. While I agree that the state must address gun-related crimes, especially given the recent tragedy in Binghamton, I disagree with any legislation that would restrict law-abiding citizens. If Albany is serious about solving gun violence in our state, a greater effort should be made to pursue criminals who obtain their guns illegally. |

On April 18 and 19, I attended gun shows in Antioch, Calif., and Reno, Nev., to probe the culture of gun enthusiasts at the onset of the Barack Obama era.
If a new militia movement coalesces, its members will have no shortage of sophisticated assault weapons to choose from. At the gun show in Reno, I witnessed the sale of rocket-propelled grenade launchers and bazooka guns;
Swastika-emblazoned flags, photographs of Hitler and his henchmen, and anything related to the Third Reich were available at several booths.
There was obviously no way to gauge the percentage of show attendees who adhered to the racist fringe, but the prominence of so much Nazi regalia suggested they maintained a significant presence.

Further down University Ave, a man says someone chased him from a gas station Tuesday and then shot him. Then Wednesday night, a 21-year-old UALR student attacked walking home at the South
