... "Prather makes much of modern day weaponry that only the government may possess. But you know, artillery and nuclear bombs are of limited utility to a government when the battlefield is its own cities, towns, transportation hubs and commercial centers. Then it becomes like Iraq, only far worse. It becomes a rat hunt where the rats outnumber you, and often, at the point of decision, beat you in the one thing that is most fundamental in an up-close infantry fight: rapid and deadly accurate rifle fire. Shouting Borg-like that 'resistance is futile' may scare the faint-hearted, the weak-minded and certain children under the age of ten. It does NOT scare us." ... |

... "Frankly, having given it some thought, I believe the reason that the Left hates guns so much is because of us Jews. With very few exceptions, we are terribly squeamish around firearms. The fear is totally irrational ... that the guns, themselves, are anti-Semites, and will kill us of their own accord." ...
"Even though America is the most tolerant nation on earth, Jews tend to think if terrible things happened to their ancestors ... it can and will happen here. It's a form of paranoia. But it's a very strange form. For as we all know, this is a nation of 300 million. So, wouldn't you think a minority numbering a mere five million, and in constant fear of pogroms, would spend as much time as possible on the firing range?" |

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence is releasing a new report today -- "No Gun Left Behind: The Gun Lobby's Campaign to Push Guns Into Colleges and Schools" -- that draws attention to the gun lobby's efforts in recent years, and since the horrific tragedy at Virginia Tech, to change college campus rules prohibiting firearms. The report describes gun lobby efforts in Utah, Maine, South Carolina and other states to force colleges to allow the possession and use of firearms by students and others on campus. |

"We must face the hard truth that firearms are so easy to acquire in the United States that lethal mass shootings are mathematically inevitable. Our nation was stunned by Cho Seung Hui's shooting spree ... As we mourn these deaths, we are left with two unavoidable questions: Could this horrific act of violence have been avoided? and What do we do about it? Neither question is easy to answer in a nation with over 200 million privately owned firearms including 65 million handguns."
"The gun violence of the United States is an anomaly among most industrialized democracies." ... -------

Canada's Globe and Mail, for example, noted that even as deadly a massacre as the one at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., in 1999 failed to bring about a nationwide crackdown on guns. The Sydney Morning Herald in Australia described the Virginia deaths as 'setting a sickeningly high American record for gun rampages.' U.S. politicians, it adds, 'are running scared at the influence of a particular voice over a sizeable tranche [slice] of voters as a presidential election looms.' The voice is the gun lobby's, especially its major proponent, the National Rifle Association." ... |
