President Donald Trump spoke at the National Rifle Association annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. He said he would defend the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Maybe he will, and maybe he wont. Talk is cheap, Mister President. Show us.
Mr. President, prosecute the federal agents who broke the law.
Mr. President, protect the innocent citizens who are arrested as they travel from state to state.
Mr. President, defend all of our rights.
Here is the hard truth. Politicians would rather leave our rights in jeopardy so they can raise campaign fund before the next election. No more. Time is running out for both the President and the Republican majority we elected. It is time to act. |

As sheriff, and the chief law enforcement officer of San Diego County, I am proud to be a part of the executive branch, whose responsibility it is to enforce the law regardless of personal beliefs. The executive branch is an important pillar of our democracy and the responsibility of being a member of it is something that I take very seriously.
The case of Peruta v. California et al. involved applicants who were denied licenses to obtain concealed carry permits because they failed to establish good cause, as required by California law. Californias legislative branch has clearly required that good cause be proved prior to the issuance of a license to carry a concealed firearm. |

Gov. Nathan Deal signed legislation Thursday allowing people with permits to carry concealed handguns on Georgia's public college campuses, despite the objections of state university leaders and his own veto of a campus-carry measure last year.
Deal shocked fellow Republicans with the tone of last year's veto message, which referenced opposition to guns on the University of Virginia campus by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, and an opinion by the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia that described schools as "sensitive places" under the Second Amendment. |

May 2, 1967: Two dozen armed Negroes entered the state Capitol at noon today and 10 made their way to the back of the Assembly Chamber before they were disarmed and marched away by the state police.
The Assembly was in session at the time and Speaker Pro Tem Carlos Bee ordered the men removed from the chamber.
Outside the chamber, the police took away the weapons. The men argued they could carry the weapons as long as they were not concealed.

For those who may disagree about open carry should read the second amendment of the constitution: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (The Constitution of the United States, Amendment 2).
And The right of the people to keep and bare arms, is exercised annually in Lansing, at the citys Capitol building.
Wednesday, April 26 , nearly 400 activists stood strong behind the 2nd amendment by commemorating together in a peaceful protest amongst citizens and supporters. |

Legislation making it easier for cities to be sued over gun restrictions eased through the state House Wednesday, May 3, even though it would allow those filing lawsuits to claim triple attorney fees.
This bill levels the playing field for our citizens when they are trying to protect their Second Amendment rights, said Rep. William Lamberth.
The bill, which passed 70-24, allows local governments to prohibit guns on property such as courthouses, public libraries and schools, and in arenas and venues with metal detectors and security. But it would allow them, for practical purposes, in bus terminals and even on public buses if cities and counties dont use metal detectors or security to check people for guns. |

The National Rifle Association has a new message for its oldest constituency: its time to go to war.
The gun group is rolling out a new ad campaign geared toward hunters, a segment of firearm owners whose concerns have been eclipsed as the NRA transformed into a political powerhouse and threw its weight behind fights over self-defense and access to weapons. To sway its audience, the NRA is deploying its favorite tactic. It is trying to scare them. |

The Florida Senate stuck to its guns Thursday in a dispute with the House about a change to the states stand your ground self-defense law.
Both chambers have broadly supported a bill (SB 128) that would shift a key burden of proof from defendants to prosecutors in stand your ground cases.
But with only a day left in the legislative session to reach agreement, the Senate on Thursday refused to go along with a change the House made to the bill. That could jeopardize the bill if the dispute does not get resolved Friday.
The dispute involves a House proposal to require prosecutors in pre-trial stand your ground hearings to overcome the asserted immunity sought by defendants through clear and convincing evidence. |

While calling himself a proud supporter of second amendment rights the U.S. Senator whose constituency includes the National Rifle Associations headquarters pushed back against a national concealed carry proposal.
U.S. Sen. Mark Warner on Wednesday slammed S. 446, a Republican-backed measure that would see concealed carry permits largely treated the same way that drivers licenses are with the respect that they would be recognized in every state. Warner met with gun violence survivors and their families on the lead up to his announcement that he could not support the bill. |

During the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, speakers ranging from President Donald Trump to Sheriff David Clarke and NRA senior VP Wayne LaPierre put smackdown after smackdown on gun controllers and their surrogates in the media. LaPierre made clear there would be no apologies for the smackdowns. Rather, he pointed out that one of the things the American people love about the NRA is the fact that the group speaks truth. |

State Representative Justin Holland (R-Heath) recently passed House Bill 3784, relating to persons approved by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to administer online the classroom instruction part of the handgun proficiency course.
HB 3784 allows for an approved online course provider to administer the classroom instruction part and written portion of the handgun proficiency course in an online format, in an attempt to ease access to the handgun safety and training course required to obtain a License to Carry (LTC). The Department of Public Safety uses similar learning methods for driver education, driver safety, and Alcohol and Drug Awareness. |

As a life-long Montanan, a gun owner and volunteer with the Montana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, I found the recent Tribune article Everything you want to know about guns in Montana informative. The piece touches on a range of gun topics, including Montanas concealed carry permitting system and how it keeps guns away from people with violent histories.
The article explains how counties reported denying applications because of assaults, domestic violence, felonies, active protection orders, and, in Broadwater County, an applicant had threatened to kill deputies. |

John Lott: Murder isnt a nationwide problem; its a problem in a very small set of urban areas. In 2014, the worst 2 percent of counties accounted for 51 percent of the murders. And 5 percent of counties account for 68 percent of murders.
Yet even within these counties with all these murders, there are large areas without any murders. So these murders are concentrated in a small portion of these tiny areas. For example, Los Angeles County had the most murders, with 526. But large, high-population areas, such as West Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, have virtually no murders. In the case of Indianapolis, there were few murders in the northern half of the city or outside the 465 Highway loop. |

Massive whale sharks, vibrant fish and captivating stingrays glided through the blue Georgia Aquarium waters, creating a living backdrop for this years NRA Womens Leadership Forum during the Annual Meeting and Exhibits last week in Atlanta. While the venue was truly jaw-dropping, it wasnt the aquatic life filling the space with energy. The beaming smiles, warm greetings, and genuine laughter of friends coming from all directions rang out and filled me with a fond nostalgiaone Id felt a year earlier at this very same gathering. |

A conservative columnist who was suspended by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch after she defended the National Rifle Association from comparisons to ISIS fired back with her resignation and a series of targeted tweets.
The newspaper on Friday suspended Stacy Washington after a column entitled "Guns and the Media" disputed an anti-NRA article that argued since more Americans die from guns than from ISIS, the Second Amendment advocacy group is the greater danger. |

I struggle with this loss every day, as does my entire family. One way that I have dealt with that struggle is by volunteering with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, an organization that supports Second Amendment rights while also fighting for laws that can effectively reduce the gun violence that affects so many Americans, me and my family included. Right now this organization with the support of law enforcement leaders from across the state is battling to block a dangerous gun bill, HB 1911, which would eliminate the licensing requirements, including criminal background checks and safety training, for Texans who choose to carry a loaded handgun in public. |
