State prosecutors dropped a murder charge Thursday against Sabrina Hendley, who claimed she was defending herself amid a drunken quarrel with an abusive husband when she shot him four years ago in their Riverview home.
After an extensive review of the case, prosecutors determined that they could not refute Hendleys self-defense claim, and that the charges should be dismissed, according to a memo from the office of Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren.
It was a remarkable conclusion to a complicated case that had been fiercely contested since 2018. |

Dont get me wrong, I fully believe that there is a difference between bogus rights and foundational rights spelled out in the federal Constitution, such as self-defense, and that should be binding on the states. Ideally, we have the right to petition a federal court for redress if our gun rights are infringed upon. But if that is going to allow courts to perpetuate judicial supremacy and use it as a cudgel over red states, Im more than glad to devolve all these issues to the states. |

Bryan Cutler is running for reelection in Pennsylvania House District 100, but the Speaker of The House is facing stiff competition from up and comer Anne Weston.
Recently NBC News produced a news story with the help of Attorney General Josh Shapiros Office. NBC reporter Vaughn Hillyard had the AGs office complete two Polymer80 kits in the story. A coalition of gun rights organizations demanded that Cutler open an investigation into any possible crimes. The Speaker refused and took offense that gun rights organizations might not back him. |

The district court, however, denied the motion to intervene. Despite submitting 11 sworn affidavits from members who planned to take advantage of the new hunting opportunitiesopportunities that would no longer be available if the plaintiffs succeed in the lawsuitthe court found that the hunting community lacked an interest in the suit. That egregious ruling was appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where the fight for American families access to public lands will continue.
NRA-ILA remains dedicated to protecting hunters rights in courtrooms and capitols across the country. The case is captioned Center for Biological Diversity v. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. |

While the term usually refers to laws allowing people to carry handguns without getting a state permit, it remains unclear just what it will actually mean in practice, including if businesses such as Disney World could ban guns on their property.
The biggest question, though, is whether such a bill would actually clear a Florida Senate that has repeatedly killed previous attempts to pass versions of it.
Detractors worry that the governor, whose power over the Legislature has been nearly absolute this year as he runs for reelection in the fall, will be able to push it through this time. |

The suspect in a 2020 road rage shooting, which left an Aiken man paralyzed, will not be tried in court following new findings that suggest he was acting in self defense.
Joseph Ryan Cincotta, of Aiken, was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in connection to the shooting, according to a previous Aiken Standard article. Charges were dismissed April 12, but the man who was shot is still taking civil action against the shooter. |

Woo laid out several issues hed prioritize if elected, including recruitment of officers, collaboration with other departments, agency transparency, promotion of proactive policing, job skill training, and Second Amendment rights.
A law abiding citizen with good cause should have the ability to carry a concealed weapon if they choose and our (carry concealed weapon) policies will not change under my administration, said Woo in a statement.
Woo has gained endorsements from California state Sen. Jim Nielsen, retired Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, Roseville Mayor Krtista Bernasconi, and several others, including Bell. |

"PA Trump rally tonight for Mehmet Oz one of the lowest attended I've ever seen. Bad weather and Oz is very unpopular with MAGA base," tweeted Republican lawyer Ron Filipkowski.
Oz, endorsed by Trump on April 9, has come under fire by members of the Republican Party for being a "RINO," the abbreviation for "Republican in Name Only."
When the heart surgeon running for the Senate nomination took the stage ahead of Trump's expected appearance, he spoke of his values. |

For a variety of reasons including hollow arguments that stronger gun-safety laws will infringe on Second Amendment rights the same concerted effort has not been made to reduce firearm deaths. But, recognizing a true public-health crisis, a growing number of health systems and hospitals nationwide have become more active in pursuing strategies to reduce gun violence in the communities they serve. |

Journalists were once champions of Free Speech. Some even went to jail for their beliefs. Nowadays, they are openly calling for increased government censorship and regurgitating anything else the Biden-Harris administration desires.
The Fourth Estate has muzzled itself and abrogated its once-powerful government watchdog role, which even critics said was vital to the functioning of our democracy. Todays media has become a willing participant in its own demise an accessory after the fact, so to speak not because of a Supreme Court loss, another shift in technology, or for any other reason. To be clear, the media abandoned its ethics, its readers, and its legacy for the dirtiest of rationales: Politics. |

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reports as of April 30, 2022, Florida now has over 2.5 million permit holders. This number has steadily risen every year and is more than double the number reported in 2012. This comes on the heals of Governor Ron DeSantis announcing last week that he plans to sign Constitutional Carry legislation into law while he is governor. NRA-ILA staunchly supports this effort and has been the leader in the constitutional carry movement across the country. |

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is pressing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide updated data about how the VA has handled reporting of veterans to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), specifically with respect to veterans who have been assigned fiduciaries. Grassley first raised concerns about restrictions on veterans Second Amendment rights in 2015. I take the fundamental nature of the Second Amendment very seriously and when our veterans right to own and possess firearms is at issue, the government must ensure that constitutional due process is followed, Grassley wrote. |

While California lawmakers are looking to further curb peoples access to guns, an effort by a Florida official to loosen federal regulations may have an impact for gun owners in California and across the nation, especially those who rely on medical marijuana.
A lawsuit has been filed against the federal government over its policies that bar medical marijuana patients from owning a gun.
Leafly Senior Editor David Downs, who calls the U.S governments cannabis regulations unconstitutional, breaks it down. |

Both Johnson and Thune received the NRA's top ranking of "A+," which the gun rights association says indicates they both have "an excellent voting record on all critical NRA issues." The NRA said Johnson and Thune "made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment." |

The Second Amendment says, a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Those words have been interpreted variously over the generations (with judges increasingly tuning out those first 12 words), but since the very start of the Republic, different states have had wide latitude to put different curbs on firearm possession. New Yorks firearm law, stating that concealed weapon permits are granted only after demonstrated need, has been on the books since 1913. Thats different than Wyomings statute, and understandably so. Wyomings biggest city has one-fortieth the population of Brooklyn.

Former President Donald Trumps endorsement of Joe Lombardo for governor on April 27 gave the Clark County sheriff a major boost in the race where Lombardo was already the acknowledged frontrunner among the GOPs 15-candidate field.
In his endorsement message, Trump wrote As governor, Joe will fiercely protect our under-siege Second Amendment, oppose sanctuary cities, support our law enforcement, veto any liberal tax increase, protect life, and secure our elections.
Trump concluded, Joe Lombardo is the leader Nevada needs, and he has my complete and total endorsement for governor! The endorsement came as a blow for other GOP gubernatorial candidates who have attempted to ingratiate themselves to Trump. |

A man sentenced last week for possessing an unserialized "ghost gun" is the first person charged and convicted under the city of San Diego's ordinance banning the weapons, the San Diego City Attorney's Office announced Friday.
The city's Eliminate Non-Serialized Untraceable Firearms ordinance went into effect last October, about two months before 23-year-old Rene Orozco was arrested for leading police on a car chase in City Heights, then tossing the gun as he ran from officers.
The ordinance prohibits the sale and possession of so-called ghost guns, firearms that lack serial numbers and are often assembled from purchased or homemade components. |

What other words dont expressly appear in the Constitution? Gay marriage certainly does not. Neither does interracial marriage or immigrant rights.
And if the purest interpretation is used to undermine settled caselaw like Roe, one has to wonder what a pure interpretation of the words that do appear in the original construct of the Constitution will yield. Will the Second Amendments declaration of the peoples right to bear arms deem unconstitutional 150 years of state and federal laws governing gun safety? |
